Combination of French and English on the UI

Combination of French and English on the UI

I've just spotted a weird combination of both French and English text on the native scanner app in macOS. I'm a native

French speaker but never had my Mac configured in French.

In Language & Region preferences, the only language listed is English UK.

    Thoughts?

External HDD not showing on new iMac, but works fine on an older one.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 05:53 PM PST

    The two Macs are a late 2012 27" iMac and a 2017 5K 27" iMac.

The external HDD is a Seagate 5TB Expansion Desktop, formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I've been using the HDD as my Time Machine drive on the old Mac without a hiccup for years. When I connect it up to the new machine, the drive spins and lights up, but it never appears in Finder or Disk Utility.

After about 30 seconds of spinning, the new Mac alerts me that the drive was removed without ejecting. Then it'll spin up again then "remove" itself. On and on it goes, and I never see it come close to mounting.

I have tried a different power supply, different USB 3.0 cables, and every USB port on the new Mac, nothing sticks. I've also tried removing it as the backup drive on the old Mac.

    Please help!

A little side effect after re-enabling sub-pixel AA on Mojave

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 03:47 PM PST

Mojave disables sub-pixel anti-aliasing and makes texts in apps like vscode and chrome thin and hard to read. A workaround is to re-enable through:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/9inu3e/if_the_font_rendering_on_mojave_looks_odd_to_you/

However, the search box in dark mode looks a bit wonky with this enabled.

    Video freezes unless cursor present

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 09:27 AM PST

Does anyone have the issue where youtube, iTunes, etc videos only play normally when the cursor is hovering over it? The moment I move the cursor off the video it freezes. This happens on both my iMac and MacBook Pro.

Best way to share iCloud Drive folder?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 03:09 PM PST

Is there any way to share whole folder with someone? I'm talking about generating a link and posting it to someone who can see the content and download what he wants. It can be done in dropbox.

Looking for an app to monitor/restrict certain programs usage time

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 12:06 PM PST

I'm looking for a program that can track the time I have a certain app open, and prevent/notify me when it's reached a certain daily/weekly threshold. I've seen programs that track app usage time and present it in graphs, but the notification/blocking is the main feature I'm looking for. Any suggestions?

Installing Windows 7 trough High Sierra.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 12:04 PM PST

As you all may know High Sierra's BootCamp doesn't support Windows 7 drivers, I would like to install Windows 7 64bit version and I can't find the files I need for installing it, can someone please tell me the procedure on how to do it and give the link for Windows 7 64bit drivers? I and a lot of folks would appreciate it, if someone actually haves the time I would be grateful. Thanks :)

    Unable to login, stuck

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 11:17 AM PST

I have a Macbook Pro 2011, running El Capitan.

Yesterday, I shut down my computer since it was running somewhat slow. I usually just close the laptop so it's been a while since I actually shut it down.

Turned it on after a couple of hours. Got the Apple logo and progress bar but it wouldn't complete, just got stuck about 75% of the way. Did some googling. I've tried the PRAM, taking out the battery, went into recovery mode and use first aid on the drive (it was okay), re-installed El Capitan.

I've gotten to the login screen a few times but after putting in the user ID and password, it would show that colorful rotating circle and nothing would happen. Sometimes, the screen would go black. Did more googling and tried this in terminal:

    /sbin/fsck -fy

    /sbin/mount -uw /

    rm -f /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist

    rm -f /var/db/.AppleUpgrade

    reboot

I'm not sure what else to do. Is there a way to disable the login process using terminal? Thinking if I don't have to go through that part, it might actually load.

I used Command V function and got various messages:

    BootCacheControl: Unable to open /var/db/BootCaches/PreheatedUser/Marged.playlist

Warning: couldn't block sleep during cache update Warning: proceeding w/o DiskArb

bash: /etc/rc.server: No such file or directory bash: /etc/rc.installer_cleanup: No such file or directory

fInterfaceSnapshots is missing (has this message 10 times)

Got incomplete channel sequence length 0, should be 16

    Unable to create I080211InterfaceMonitor

I don't know if any of this stuff is important. Any advice?

One week old MacBook Pro 15' 2018 already at 97% battery capacity?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 04:15 AM PST

    Hello!

I got a new macbook from the store last week and I lose around 0.5% capacity a day since I got it. Is that normal behaivour or is something wrong with my battery. Since I am from the EU, I can return the macbook for 14 days without questions, so I am considering that right now. I used coconut battery and another battery health app from the app store to track the capacity and both report me the same numbers. The battery has around 7 charge cycles.
