Thinking about upgrading from a 2015 MacBook Pro to a MacBook Pro or air 2018 Posted: 14 Jan 2019 07:33 PM PST I've been thinking about upgrading to either the MacBook Pro 2018 or MacBook Air 2018. The only thing I'm worried about is the keyboards. How are they compared tot he 2015 MacBook Pro model? Also besides them being newer computers, is it worth it to upgrade from 2015 to 2018? Should I wait? And if I should buy one which one should it be and why. Things I do on my MacBook Pro 2015 now are word documents like crazy, PowerPoint, a lot of chrome tabs, iTunes music, messages app and adobe pdf occasionally. Thank you for the suggestions! Posted: 14 Jan 2019 08:36 PM PST Hello all! I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13 inch, Early 2015) and I got the "service battery" message last week and it looks like I'm at 861/1000. Not sure if it's worth servicing the battery or not. . a few questions: Does the MacBook run as normal once the battery is serviced? (I have trust issues cause my last MacBook shut down completely and stopped working after 3 months after I serviced the battery.. so I want to hear from everyone else in case mine was a rare case..) Will my MacBook data be wiped in the process? What's the likelihood of this happening or has it happened to you? How long does the process usually take? I'm in school and I need my laptop like, everyday and midterm season is approaching so not a good time to have my laptop away from me for more than 2 days. Is it worth replacing the battery or should I just get a new laptop at this rate? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
How many 'spaces' do you think a Macbook can handle? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 08:44 PM PST I have been starting to use them more but I wasn't sure how many i can open up before they start to really tax my laptop. How many have you guys had open and running? Is there somewhere in the task manager that I can see how much they are taxing my laptop? [link] [comments]
Wiping MacBook Air that doesn’t turn on Posted: 14 Jan 2019 08:07 PM PST So I've just taken my 2017 MacBook Air in to Apple after taking water damage and was quoted $1200, so I'm just scrapping it for parts. However, as it doesn't turn on at all, is there a way to wipe the hard drive or remove it before scrapping it? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Advice: Macbook Air 2014 trackpad recently been unresponsive and onscreen mouse behaving erratically Posted: 14 Jan 2019 07:08 PM PST Trackpad stopped responding to touch a few weeks ago and onscreen mouse has been spazzing out all over the place, flying around erratically and clicking things etc. I recently got the battery replaced and the trackpad behaved normally after that but this morning when I opened the mac back up the mouse was back to it's old tricks. I'm guessing I'll probably need to get the trackpad replaced but was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience with this kind of thing. Thanks [link] [comments]
MacBook Air 2017 13” 128gb for less than $400 Posted: 14 Jan 2019 05:48 PM PST There's a MacBook Air for sale on letgo, what do you think of the price? I don't know too much about MacBooks. I need something for class that'll last a few years. I think I could even talk him down to $350. Could it be stolen? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jan 2019 03:31 PM PST I own a 6-year-old 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina and want to upgrade. Currently have ¥160,000 left in my research budget to spend. Any recommendations? [link] [comments]
2017 Mac Pro.. only lasted until yesterday, is that normal? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 11:48 AM PST The backlight on my 2017 MacBook Pro went out yesterday. Would cost over $600 to fix(of course I don't have AppleCare). Is this normal? I read online laptops last 3-5 years.. even that seems short. I'm not fixing it, I'm just going to buy a new laptop. But now I don't even know if I want another Mac considering this one barely lasted. (MAC in perfect condition too, never dropped it, spilled anything on it, or anything, so just weird for the backlight to die). Advice so I can determine if I should purchase a Mac or something else. 2017 MacBook Pro liquid damage help Posted: 14 Jan 2019 10:29 AM PST Over the weekend, I was working on some work on my computer. It was a nice day so I decided to take the work outside. Went in for a bit to eat and watch some tv and completely forgot about the laptop. Out of nowhere its starts poring drenching the laptop. The laptop was closed and had a hard case over it which protected it from damage if you dropped it. Once I realized my my stake I ran outside and grabbed the laptop. Freaking out I did exactly from what I've read you shouldn't do, I tried turning it on to see if I had just destroyed my $3000 computer. It turned on and was working but then suddenly it turned off. After this I looked into what you're supposed to do which led me to shutting it down and flipping it upside down to let the water drain out. I left it like this for about 48 hours until Monday which was then when I took it to a 3rd party Mac store to get fixed. While at the store I opened the computer from the closed position and the apple logo flickered on then off. I immediately closed it back up and handed it to the technician. Sorry for the long story, this is an anxiety rant and also seeking some sort of peace of mind from someone out here. My question is, is it a good sign the computer was able to show somewhat life? And I read that the newer MacBooks are slightly harder to get water damage due to their build and the keyboard letting in less liquid. I have a HUGE test this next week (series 66) and my job is on the line. All my study material is on the computer and the idiot that I am didn't back any of it up. Do you guys think I be able to come out of this with less then $1000 worth of damage and also be able to recover all my data? Thanks for your time if you read this any insight will be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Trouble Installing Google Chrome on MBP 2015 Posted: 14 Jan 2019 09:35 AM PST I've been attempting to install Google Chrome on a new MBP 2015 running MacOS Mojave 10.14.2 and have not been successful. The googlechrome.dmg file downloads fine (directly from Google's mirror), but after I drag the Google Chrome icon into my applications folder I am unable to run the actual application. The OS copies the files but when I try to open Google Chrome by double clicking the app's icon, I am prompted with the message "Google Chrome is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the trash". I've tried installing on a new Admin account and while in Safe Mode, both of which were unsuccessful. I am able to install other 3rd party apps just fine (Spotify, Discord, etc) but Google Chrome has not worked whatsoever :( Any advice would be appreciated as Apple support couldn't help either. LG UltraFine 4k vs something like Rain mStand? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 04:12 AM PST I will be in the market for a new laptop within the next year but I can't decide if I want to do a 13" or 15" MBP on something like a Rain mStand with magic keyboard? or MBA or Pro with LG Ultrafine 4k display. I don't want to spend money on a monitor if it doesn't look as good as a brand new laptop screen. I also don't want to buy a monitor any larger. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jan 2019 12:30 AM PST Just bought the base model macbook Pro with touchbar. I have the one year warranty but I am looking to extend it with the 3 year apple care package. Am I right in thibking if I wait until my 1 year warranty is up, I can just extend it another 3 years from the moment I purchase the apple care. So I would have 4 total years of warranty.
