    Macbook air power issue

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 04:01 PM PST

    Hey guys,

I have a mid 2013 Macbook air that's given me some trouble these past couple days. At this point I have found that to power it on I need to do the following each time:

    1. disconnect battery
    2. reconnect battery
    3. shift + control + option + power button

    It will not start otherwise.

Is the battery the culprit? My issues started after it shutdown despite saying ~20% left.

Health Information under System Info says

    Cycle count: 952

    Condition: Normal

Speech to text not working while connected to car via Bluetooth

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 03:39 PM PST

Speech to text works fine on my iPhone when I am not connected to my car via Bluetooth. However, once I connect to My car after pressing the speech to text button in the messaging app it appears that the microphone is not receiving any input when I speak.

What is more strange is that when using the voice memo app there are no problems receiving sound input while connected to my cars Bluetooth.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

    Thanks

Is anyone here able to walk into an Apple Store (or call one and speak to a human that works there) and ask the how much it costs to change a battery?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 03:30 PM PST

Every time I call an apple store I get directed to a call center who wants to make an appointment for me to go to the bar in an Apple Store. I'm 5 hours away from the nearest Apple Store!

I need to know in advance if battery replacement for a 15 inch mid-2014 Macbook Pro is a thing they do at Apple Stores and how much it costs and how many days would I have to wait, so I'd know if I need to get a hotel room or not.

Turn backlight on and off via Terminal/AppleScript?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 08:21 PM PST

I have looked exhaustively online and while I have found an AS that does this, I think it was for an older model MacBook that doesn't have touchbar functionality. When I tried it it didn't work. I also don't know if it was designed for an older version of MacOS because it stopped about half way through saying it can't find the setting it was looking for.

My goal is to use a script to make on/off buttons for my touchbar using BTT.

    Specs:

    2018 MBP 15": 16gb RAM, 256gb SSD, 555X GPU, i7 CPU

Thanks in advance for any help!

    iMac Crashes on Shutdown

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 04:24 PM PST

I have an iMac Retina 5K, 27-Inch, 2017, 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Quad Core, 2 TB Fusion Drive, 16 GB RAM, and running the latest version of MacOS Mojave.

All too often when I go to shut this down, I get an error message that states that something went wrong and it restarts.

Any ideas of what could be causing this or where to start looking into this? (I've posted this in the MacOS subreddit.)

    2017 MacBook Pro Water Damage

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 11:14 AM PST

Over the weekend, I was working on some work on my computer. It was a nice day so I decided to take the work outside. Went in for a bit to eat and watch some tv and completely forgot about the laptop. Out of nowhere its starts poring drenching the laptop. The laptop was closed and had a hard case over it which protected it from damage if you dropped it. Once I realized my my stake I ran outside and grabbed the laptop. Freaking out I did exactly from what I've read you shouldn't do, I tried turning it on to see if I had just destroyed my $3000 computer. It turned on and was working but then suddenly it turned off. After this I looked into what you're supposed to do which led me to shutting it down and flipping it upside down to let the water drain out. I left it like this for about 48 hours until Monday which was then when I took it to a 3rd party Mac store to get fixed. While at the store I opened the computer from the closed position and the apple logo flickered on then off. I immediately closed it back up and handed it to the technician. Sorry for the long story, this is an anxiety rant and also seeking some sort of peace of mind from someone out here. My question is, is it a good sign the computer was able to show somewhat life? And I read that the newer MacBooks are slightly harder to get water damage due to their build and the keyboard letting in less liquid. I have a HUGE test this next week (series 66) and my job is on the line. All my study material is on the computer and the idiot that I am didn't back any of it up. Do you guys think I be able to come out of this with less then $1000 worth of damage and also be able to recover all my data? Thanks for your time if you read this any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Com Port codes for the USB ports on a MacBook Pro?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 04:03 PM PST

Hello, I am having difficulty figuring out the com ports numbers of the USB ports on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro running Windows 10 via Bootcamp. Any chance anyone else has had this problem and figured it out? I would greatly appreciate a little help since online resources (google searches, youtube, etc.) haven't yielded success. Thanks!

Mid 2011 11” MacBook Air will not boot up.

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 07:46 PM PST

My MacBook Air will not boot up. When I turn it on, it boots to macOS utilities. I have tried the disk utility option to repair the disk. No luck. I tried to reinstall macOS option. No luck. It is connected to WiFi but it will not download the software. I created a macOS installer usb thumb drive and no luck either (MBA is running Yosemite and the installer is High Sierra, does that matter?) anyone have any idea on what I can try to fix this issue?

    MacBook Pro keyboard/trackpad not working

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 06:49 PM PST

Let me be clear, it occasionally works, just not consistently. I've tried a lot of the button combos, sometimes they work and other times they don't. Sometimes my keyboard and trackpad work, just not my caps lock, and clicking on the keyboard. Does this sound like a hardware issue? I figured it was strictly software related, since I can fix it using button combinations, but it's not consistent, nor does apple support seem to be of any help. Thanks for any advice you may have, I'm not very good at computers :D

    Sharing a private album.

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 06:49 PM PST

So I have made myself an album, I want to share it with my friend so she can have it on her phone to listen to. My only thing is I don't know how to send it to her. Do I have to add it in the iTunes Connect app or is there an easier way? I do not already have my account linked with iTunes Connect so I am trying to avoid that at the moment. My main goal is that we can both have the same album on our iTunes se we can open it and listen to it as if it were any other regular album. Hope I explained this clearly!

Youtube app updated beyond limits of Ipad 2

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 06:21 PM PST

    Ipad 2 = iOS 9.3.5 Youtube app min = iOS 10

Youtube updated itself to that min requirement and my iOS is at 8 which I'd like to keep for stability reasons and there'd be no pt in updating to 9 if it still can't run youtube. How do I regain use of the youtube app?

    Charging help

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 05:47 AM PST

Hey guys, i'm currently on a bus heading home for a week from uni, only to realize i forgot my Macbook Pro charger, it's the one with the USB C entry. My question is, before i dish out a whole lot of money on an adapter and cable, is it possible to charge a MacBook with a USB to USB C cable using something like a playstation or even the iPhone charger (the one with the massive adapter that were given with iPads back in the day)?

Anyways, any help is appreciated, would be a real bummer to spend something like £50 just to charge my laptop for a week lol

    Cheers

MacBook Pro 2014 13inch touchpad malfunctioning.

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 01:48 PM PST

So this problem started a little while ago and is very irritating since.

Whenever I start a heavier program than macOS itself my touchpad begins to randomly stop, click and move. I am currently resetting the macbook but when I was in the Disk Utility when I erased my disk the stop click and move action still happened.

I also tried removing the com.apple.AppleMultiTouchpad.plist file but that didn't work too.

Would this be a software or a hardware problem and what diagnosing should I do next? I'm very in to Linux and Windows so technical questions are no problem.

Why is iPhone 7+ stating I have 9 gigs of storage left, yet I can't use them?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2019 01:40 PM PST

I have an iPhone 7+ with the latest update installed and it states 22.8 gigs used of the 32 available. Now I'm trying to update my apps and it won't allow, nor can I take any photos. 2 weeks ago I tried to restore the device and backed it up from iTunes, but that didn't work either. I'm not sure what has to be done here?
