Hypothetical scenario (only brand new devices)

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 08:52 PM PST

Hey guys, I want some advice on this hypothetical scenario I made up in my head...

Let's say.... im in the market for a new MacBook Pro after my mid-2012 MacBook Pro 15" with 16 gb ram got ruined by some hot chocolate. The MacBook is trashed, no hope of repair. I've wanted a new MacBook and I adore the smaller form factor, size, and weight of 13" MacBooks. What I was thinking is I want to buy a brand new MacBook Pro 15" because I want the dedicated graphics card, as it helps with what I do. That costs 2,399. What I was thinking about, (inform me if it isn't going to work how I think), but I saw that there is a black magic GPU .... thing on apple store for $700. What if... instead of buying that big MacBook Pro 15", I was to instead buy a MacBook Air with the black magic GPU? I would just use GPU intensive things when at a desk, so the portability of the graphics card isn't a factor. That would make my total $2,100 vs $2,300 for the 15" Pro. Which would be a better investment looking at my circumstances?

Mid 2009 MBP 13" Logic Board Replacement/Upgrade Question

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 01:42 PM PST

    Hey everyone,

I'm looking to find some information on whether or not it is possible to "upgrade" my borked Logic Board in my mid 2009 13" MBP with one from a mid 2010 MBP. I've found some threads on iFixit giving conflicting reports on compatibility, but the replacement guides look nearly identical down to screw position, connector arrangement and type, etc.

Has anyone ever tried swapping out their MBP Mid 2009 Logic Board for a Mid 2010 Logic Board and found success? Please let me know. Cheers! :)

    Accessories and software

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 02:37 PM PST

    Good evening!

I just bought my first Mac (MBP A1708). Wow, I don't miss my PC!

So, what would be must-have accessories and software that would improve my overall experience? I've been looking at the magic mouse, but considering how awesome the trackpad feels, I'm not decided yet.

I will be using the device mainly for light text edition, web browsing and just work in general. I may download a few games, but I am generally a PC gamer and will be keeping my desktop gaming PC.

    Thank you!

Mojave Update - Mail Application Login Issues

Mojave Update - Mail Application Login Issues

    Hey guys!

I was hoping that someone here may be able to help me resolve this issue. Ever since I've updated (probably a few months now) to Mojave on my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro, I constantly have login issues with the app. I've posted a screenshot of what usually appears. It's either the "exclamation point in the triangle" or the "sideways lightning bolt". For the "exclamation point in the triangle", I click it and it continuously says login failed. For the "sideways lightning bolt", it attempts to bring up the login screen for gmail, but only shows a blank white pop-up screen. I've never had this issue with the Mail app until after I updated to Mojave. Please let me know if you have any solutions! Thanks!

Does anyone know if Apple intends on making an iPad 2 in 1 like the Microsoft surface pro?

    Which Macbook should I buy?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 12:07 AM PST

I've never had a Macbook, only Windows system computers.

I need the laptop to play Netflix, maybe games like Sims, programs like Ableton Live and daily use.

I've seen 2010, mid-2014, mid-2012, 2013 so which one would be the most convenient in terms of price and that could do what I want it to do?

Help with my water damaged MacBook Pro

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 04:17 AM PST

Hey, I hope this is the correct place to post this.

I have a Mid 2012 MBP which I spilt some water over yesterday. It was working fine until I switched it off completely and left it to dry overnight.

Woke up this morning to see that it was completely dead. Not turning on, no charger light nothing.

So I opened it up and swapped the battery (I bought a new one recently and I put the old one in) but still no response whatsoever.

However it was stuck in some kind of cycle where it would boot up, make the Apple 'sound' and suddenly switch off... I've linked a video to this.

    https://youtu.be/RayTM0dYNek

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I can do or is it a lost cause?

I've left alone with the battery out for the time being.

    Thanks

According to Amazon, Apple MacBook (12", 1.2GHz dual-core Intel Core m3, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) - Silver is $100 off. Have you used this laptop? If yes, do you have any comment on it?

2014 Macbook Air isn't showing the correct battery percentage.

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 05:34 AM PST

My early 2014 Macbook Air is showing the wrong battery percentage, and it just kinda freezes on for example 31%, even though it is at 90% since I can check it in Activity Monitor. Whenever I hold the option key and click on the battery icon it says that the condition is normal. Does this issue have anything to do with the battery?

MacBook v MBA v Mac Mini

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 03:52 AM PST

After nearly ten years of reliable performance from my 15" MBP I'm back in the market for a Mac. Cost is an issue so I'm restricting anything "Pro" from my current search.

Aside from aesthetics and screen resolution, I don't see many major differences between the most current MacBook and the MacBook Air. None the less, I'd like to make a proper decision here.

I've got a 10.5 iPad Pro that I can use to remote in to my home set up if necessary, so I don't feel like portability is a must have; frankly the cost of iPads are so reasonable, I'm wondering if it makes more sense to forego MacBooks altogether and just purchase a spec'd out Mac Mini (I've already got external monitors). In looking at the configuration possibilities, it seems like the Mini provides a lot more value.

Thoughts on the MacBook vs MacBook Air? ...either of those vs Mac Mini?

Macbook Pro 2013 SSD upgrade or just buy a newer model? Which SSD and/or model to get?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 01:01 AM PST

    Title says all. Two choice

    1. Upgrade to SSD. If so, which SSD should I buy? This is the 2013 non-retina Macbook Pro model. Any brands to avoid? I am on 500GB HDD, is reducing it to the 128GB SSD stupid?

    2. Get a new Macbook Pro instead. BTW the new keyboards appear to be tirin for the fingers. BTW my laptop still runs on 2.5Hz Intel Core i5, is that still good or comparable to the processors in the newer Macbook Pro/Air/normal models?

    Thanks ahead

Macbook air 13-inch 2017 track pad shallow

    Posted: 25 Jan 2019 12:32 AM PST

My trackpad recently started to have a very shallow and quiet click for no apparent reason. The battery does not look like it's bulging and sometimes the click is much more audible than other times. What might also cause this?
