Posted: 16 Jan 2019 07:52 PM PST Hello everyone, I'm looking for some advice, So recently, my friend's iphone 5s screen stopped working, so he went to the Apple store to get it fixed. They told him that it was a motherboard issue, and that his only option was to get it replaced for the OOW cost of like $349 CAD (Something like that). So now he didn't have a functioning screen or button... Of course, being like a 5 year old phone, that's not worth it.... Until he gave it to me to try and fix it... So long story short, Apple didn't plug in one of the ribbon cables properly (when I went to remove the display, I was really surprise to see it just pop out. ) In addition, since I have a spare 5s, I swapped the screen from my 5s (including the Home Button to his, and guess what?? His phone works like a charm. Now I know Apple Techs are busy, but honestly? breaking his phone, careless repair etc and now they want his money??? That's no excuse I'm guessing that Apple somehow ripped the button when bluntly trying to repair his phone (although it looks perfectly fine). Is there anyway I can get Apple to replace the display (because of the button), for free? Like mention how I swapped the screens and it "magically worked" Thanks! [link] [comments]  |

| Ive had a string of hardware problems with my macbook pro mid 2012 Posted: 16 Jan 2019 10:33 AM PST I have a mid 2012 13" macbook pro. 8 gigs of Ram and a 500 gig samsung SSD that was installed about 18 months ago. The battery had been getting worse and worse for a while, however all of a sudden it pretty much failed, and its total capacity was 3mAh. No problem, ill get a new one. Ordered a new one, and installed it, and it doesnt charge. I contact the sellers about getting a replacement, but no reply yet. In the mean time, I put the old battery back in, and it seems to have bumped itself back up to about 350 mAh. I keep using this one, cos a little bit of charge is better than none at all. A few days go by, and then the computer starts shutting itself down. I reboot, the chime goes, the progress bar gets about halfway, and then it shuts down. I do a hardware diagnosis, and it tells me I have some bung RAM. Ok, no problem, I get some more ram and install it. Computer doesnt start up. I restart in recovery mode, and do some first aid with disk utility. A hole bunch of errors pop up, for example: missing thread records, permissions differ on blah blah, ACL missing on blah blah...... . The computer starts, does a internet recovery or whatever, and I start to recover my data from my latest time machine backup. I leave it for a few hours, and come back to find my computer off. Switch it on, and it gets just past the chime and then shuts down again. I get it into diagnostic mode again, run the tests and it comes back with the following error code: 4HDD/11/40000000: STA (0.0) This seems to be a problem with the SSD drive, but im just curious as to why all these hardware issues would happen at once, and if its possible that something else is going on? | Phantom external "Untitled" drives - can't unmount/delete/clear Posted: 16 Jan 2019 10:09 PM PST Disk Utility lists three (or two) grayed-out External drives (all called "Untitled") that DON'T exist. They aren't plugged in. There are *no* external drives. But... they're listed as being there, only they're totally grayed out. I can't seem to get these phantom "Untitled" drives to disappear. I've reset PRAM and SMC, no dice. Tried everything. | Issues sharing Calendars to multiple devices Posted: 16 Jan 2019 08:20 PM PST I am attempting to share a Calendar to multiple work colleagues. I use a MacBook Air running macOS Sierra. I was able to enable sharing and send out invites to share the calendar. However, I had to send out multiple different invites to some people in order for them to get an invite email. Now that everyone has an invite email, two people are getting error messages stating that they can't join the shared calendar due to a server error. Both of those individuals are using MacBooks. I bought a good known working iPad 5 today, other than the fact that the charger had to be in at a certain angle for it to work (charging port bent but still worked 1000% fine). It ran out of power, so I put it on a charger and a samsung fast wall adapter, and the red battery logo thing came up like its supposed to. A half hour later I come back to check on it, and it won't turn on, charge, show anything on screen, and I've tried smacking it, rebooting it, force restarting, DFU mode, etc. but nothing will get it to show anything at all on screen. Any insight on this? I also bought a 2012 MBP 13" earlier this year, it lasted about 6 months til this happened. The front battery light started blinking, and it wouldnt turn on at all. It charged, as I could see the battery lights on the side working when I hit the button, but the fans and HDD wouldnt kick on at all. I tried several things, and eventually managed to get the fans running on high, but still no display or HDD activity. The flashing battery light also stopped flashing, and now wont come on at all. It was working totally fine up until this point, it was never dropped, or water damaged. Any ideas? Ive tried ram swaps with almost any config imaginable, and several power button and other button things to try to get it to turn on. I think this should also be a simple fix, but I really dont think it would be worth buying another if I can get this fixed easily. Any help would be appreciated. Posted: 16 Jan 2019 04:53 AM PST Apple Diagnostics / Apple Hardware Test doesn't exist on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) and will not come up or grab from the internet when holding D / Option+D during boot. Is there a more definitive way to recover these functions? I tried the method where you download the tool from HERE and place it in "/System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics" but the boot option still doesn't work. Am I missing something simple? | Kernel_task using very high (>500%) CPU Posted: 16 Jan 2019 04:50 PM PST Hi, Been having this issue with my MacBook Pro this past week that I can't figure out. The kernel_task issue seems to be common but none of the threads I've found reveal a proper solution. Basically my laptop is extremely slow and the fan is going crazy but it's freezing cold. I have tried resetting the SMC and formatting the disk to no avail. When it first started playing up I did the most recent update which fixed it for a day or 2 then back again. I took it to Apple a few days ago and they couldn't find anything when they ran diagnostics, they took it in for a day and opened it up, found the fans were clogged with dust and cleared it out. The laptop went back to working fine for a day and today it's playing up again. Anyone know any other possible solutions to this problem? Can anyone who has experienced this reveal what they found to be the cause and solution? Thanks [link] [comments]  |

And I can't sign out of his without a password. Which neither of us know. How can I get out of all of his iCloud services without his password? A few weeks ago, I decided to un-partition my laptop because I stopped playing the game and both partitions ran significantly slower than my device ran before I partitioned it. This actually happened twice.. first time about a year ago, then again about six months ago. I realize my foolishness in aggressively changing my relatively old laptop, but what's done is done. Now, my single-OS laptop running OS X High Sierra is at least 10x slower in basic functionality (i.e. switching from app X to Y, loading webpages, opening any app, etc.) than it was before I apparently ruined it a year ago. Is there anything I can do to rekindle my laptop's previous speed? This is a problem not only when I have numerous apps open, but even upon turning it on and trying to open Chrome. I've disabled essentially every app from opening on start-up and cleared several gigs of unnecessary memory. Any advice is appreciated! [link] [comments]  |

The trackpad and mouse work ok (except for the mouse occasionally dropping signal) but the keyboard types double letters with some keys and others don't work. I have decided that it is probably a loss. However, I have noticed that the keys and the plastic underneath look a lot like the keys on my wired keyboard and on white macbooks. | older hardware mac is outperforming newer mac Posted: 16 Jan 2019 02:22 PM PST So 2008 iMac 2.66 ghz intel core 2 duo 4gb ddr2 ram 667mhz… Ati radeon hd 2600 pro 256mb Late 2011 macbook pro 2.4 ghz intel core i5 8gb ddr3 1600 mhz Intel hd graphics 3000 512mb Im running the same thing on each Mac. A twitch stream. The iMac handles it like champ. Very fast no lag. Cpu temperature range 120-135(istats) no frame rate drop MacBook Pro is struggling. Gets very hot fan is on high, and it gets laggy. Temperature range 184-200 Chrome cpu usage on iMac is 60% range vs 190% on MacBook Pro(activity monitor) also MacBook is dropping fps while iMac isn't I really don't understand. Both have a wiped fresh os install. also I have cleaned the macbook pros fan, heat sink and logic board both sides. imac never opened up [link] [comments]  |
