Posted: 31 Jan 2019 11:02 AM PST I haven't been able to merge my Free Space with my main partition. My SSD is 250 GB but I can only use 200 because 50 is taken up by my Free Space partition that used to be windows 10. I have tried to delete it and resize my main partition, but neither of these have worked. How can I fix this? Here's a pic: Here is what happens when I run diskutil list: Edit: "diskutil apfs resizeContainer /dev/disk1 0" putting this in terminal fixed it [link] [comments] |
Numbe of Updates isn’t being displayed Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:04 PM PST App updates aren't showing up in the right hand corner of the app store app. I have to click into the app store to find out how many updates there are. Anyone have the same problem or a fix? [link] [comments] |
Graphic/sound issues with MacBook pro Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:41 PM PST 15 inch mid 2012 MacBook Pro OS Mojave v 10.14.2 Getting a weird graphic error on random parts of my screen like this Also getting this weird screeching sound when I drag and drop files to my desktop. Going to try to upload a video of that to YouTube and I'll post a link in the comments. Was thinking maybe my graphics card is going bad but not sure if that would explain the weird sound. iPhone App Store updates "stuck" in App Store Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:37 PM PST Two apps (Mariott and Skype) stay stuck in my App Store on the Updates tab as if updates are available. Investigating the version numbers between the apps themselves and the App Store offered version reveals that my local apps do need an update. However, the App Store downloads the old version, then shows me I need and update, over and over, in perpetuity. I simply cannot get these two apps to update, even though the App Store goes through the motions every time. [link] [comments] |
Hidden files appear upon restarting MBP Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:36 PM PST Curiously after I did the CMD + Shift + . to display some hidden files to delete or whatever I had to do whenever I restart my MBP the hidden files are automatically enabled again. Is there a setting or something that I can disable or enable this? It's not a big deal to just hit CMD + Shift + . upon startup to hide the hidden files again but I wasn't having this problem before. Anyone have any idea what I might've done? [link] [comments] |

A collection of issues, all happening at once (common cause?) Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:02 PM PST Hi everyone, I have a few issues that have all started, all of a sudden.
Any thoughts about what may have caused this? I get that it doesn't seem like these should be connected but they each started happening at exactly the same time so I'm hoping that there's one thing causing each of these (I can hope can't I?). I've tried a SMC and PRAM reset to no avail. [link] [comments] |
Help! Macbook pro stuck in recovery mode Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:51 PM PST I have a 12 inch Macbook Pro OS X (mavericks) 10.9.5, and it is stuck in recovery mode. This Macbook was starting to act glitchy today (really slow) so I restarted it to see if that would fix it. When it began to turn on again, I was stuck on the loading screen for long time. I searched up on google what to do and so I used the Option-Command-p-r to enter into what I believe is recovery mode, but nothing was really working. So, I thought that maybe the Mac needed an update so I pressed the button to install a new OS, and it loaded. I waited an hour and a half and the download finished and the Mac restarted. But here comes the problem: the computer wanted keep on installing OS X on the disk Macintosh HD, but then it stops and says that the "Install Failed" because the disk Macintosh HD is damaged and can't be repaired. I've tried fixing the disk using disk utility, but it said it can fix it. I restarted the computer and pressed the option key to see if I could enter the recovery-10.9.5, but it just brings me to the OS X utilities. I can't use time machine either because I was an idiot and I never backed up any of my files using it. I don't know what else to do. This Mac has a ton of important things (school work, pictures, etc.). How do I leave this recovery mode and go back into the computer to at least save my files in a external hard drive. Is is possible for me to save any of my files? [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro circle with line through it? Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:34 PM PST So I always have this issue when I start it up and it shows up and sometime I'll just leave it do sth and come back and it's gone and working as usual. Took it to Apple store and they have no idea what the fuck is going on with it not to mention for an hour. They did diagnose the hardware and everything seem fine. They said it may be sata cable is the issue. They want me to leave my laptop at the store and if it the sata cable it will cost $95 @@. It's mid 2012 MacBook Pro and I think I may mess sth with cable last year when I replaced my hard drive with ssd and upgrade it to 16gb. Any idea what may cause that issue? So far it has been very troublesome as I migrate from window 10. [link] [comments] |
Calendar app won’t let me accept or decline invites and I need some help! Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:00 PM PST So pretty much what the title says. I have the XR and everything is up to date on it. I haven't had any issues accepting or declining invites in the calendar app until today. I have "accepted" them, I think, as they show up in my calendar but I don't know if the sender has received my acceptance as they will not clear from the inbox. Has anyone else run into this issue? Macbook Pro Retina 15" Mid-2012 Screen Replacement: UPDATE 1 Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:32 PM PST So I finally got my Macbook Pro at the Apple iStore. The guy at the store asked me what's wrong, I told him about the screen, and right before he talked about the cost, I told him that I got an exception from a Senior Adviser. No code or anything required; he believed me and took my word for it. The iStore employee (the iStore don't have 'geniuses,' just normal employees) was friendly and took my Macbook to the back for a quick check-up. Here were some of the faults he found: -Old battery. -The laptop is old. That's it. No cosmetic damages, because I'm smart enough to NOT throw rocks at my laptop or toss it around like a ball. (thankfully) However he told me that, and I quote: "This laptop is vintage so parts may not be available." I thought he was anaware about Apple's new VPRP (Vintage Pilot Repair Program) but he later talked about the program and how they might have the parts for it. He also stated that, if they replace the screen and they found a 3rd-party object in the laptop, I'd have to pay a $99NZ (about $78US) fee. Now I'm a bit scared about this since I got someone to swap out the old 256GB SSD with a 1TB one. Even if they did charge me for this, it's $78 with exception vs $1000 without the exception. I wouldn't care as long as they replace the screen. Now, I've got to wait about 7-10 days before they tell me what's up. I'm afraid that I'd have to wait this long and then the email me and tell me that they don't have any parts for it, but I have high hopes that they will. 🙏 I'll attach a photo of a copy of my first slip for this service below, as well as some 'before' images of my screen. (It looks terrible at the moment.) I'll keep you guys updated once something new pops up or happens. Thanks! My MacBook Pro was broken in half Posted: 31 Jan 2019 04:27 AM PST So my ex broke my laptop in half, shattered the screen piece with something, and took out some keys on the keyboard part of the laptop. I work overnight and don't really have the spare time to go to an apple store because they're all pretty far from me, but does anyone think it could be fixable? I got some pictures, just don't know how to post them Edit: Here are pics of the laptop now. It WAS a 2015 13in MacBook Pro - https://imgur.com/a/UBnsSk2 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2019 04:24 PM PST I just got a used iPhone 7, and the front and back camera are having some issues. On the front camera there are blue lines on the image, and the back camera seems to have some image stabilization issue. I posted two links that showcase both issues. I was wondering if anyone else has had/seen similar issues, and what a potential solution might be. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Jan 2019 07:04 AM PST I recently signed into my Google account on Mojave and iOS via the Internet Accounts/Password & Accounts page so that I might use the Apple Mail app for my gmail communications. After entering my account information, I limited Google's access to the Mail app to the exclusion of Calendar, Notes and Contacts. By logging in in this way, have I opened my devices to additional Google data collection? What is the extent of the permissions I am granted Google by signing in? For instance, can Google access the contents of my notes, iCloud Drive or better track my web browsing because I'm signed in? I apologize if this is an ignorant question. I looked online but couldn't find a definite answer. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Can the iPhone 7 a1660 service issue be fixed by putting a different logic board in? Posted: 31 Jan 2019 03:01 PM PST I have an a1660 iPhone 7. About a month ago, it got the no service issue, so I took it to the Apple Store and they sent it off. Apple then said there was also unrelated damage to the charging port, which meant I need to pay 300+ dollars for a repair that I expected to be free. My boyfriend recently upgraded from an iPhone 7 (also a1660) to an X, and so we have a spare iPhone 7 laying around. Apple says that the A1660 cellular issue is caused by a faulty logic board. So, rather than paying a whole bunch of money for these extra repairs, I was wondering if swapping the logic board from the spare phone to mine would fix the issue? The spare phone has a much smaller memory than mine, which is why I'd rather keep mine than start using the spare. A nearby repair place said they can swap the boards for $50, which is way less than the $319 + tax that Apple wants to fix an unrelated issue. If that does work, will the home buttons also need to be swapped to maintain functionality there? I saw online that the home buttons and logic boards are paired and the button won't work with a new logic board. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Can't sign into Messenger on my iMac, for about 3 months now. Posted: 31 Jan 2019 02:31 PM PST "An error occurred during activation" I've tried creating a new apple ID and it still won't work. I've deleted cache files, did the SMBIos reset, i've tried everything. It works on my iphone, for what it's worth. Just refuses to work on my macbook pro (2013) [link] [comments] |
TOUCHSCREEN jumps when charging! Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:51 AM PST Hey... I need help, I bought a 2nd phone (iPhone SE) online and the phone is working fine UNTIL. I charge the phone around 70% or above and the touchscreen will jump a little. I had tried to use different adaptors and all of them are the same.. I have tried to replace the battery and no luck! :( Do you guys have any idea which part of the phone is broken? Do you think the charging port is broken? Because sometimes the phone "electrocutes" me while charging and this never happened before with my old iPhones. [link] [comments] |

OTHER ISSUE: I'm a full-time student and use this Mac everyday for my work. I would think it'll take 2-3 days for an Apple Store to fix this. Issue doesn't affect daily computer use, but am worried it'll become worse in future. RELEVANT SOURCES: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5188363 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8067475 ----> Conclusion: We don't know exactly what causes it...or how it can be fixed besides a store...etc... Any thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2019 01:29 PM PST Hello, So I recently started using the apple calendar and noticed that when I have an event on my calendar I'm not getting any notifications on my watch or phone like they show up but without vibrating like normal. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advanced. [link] [comments] |
Preserving Recovery Functionality? Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:43 AM PST I am about to nuke the entire SSD and add linux to my MBP but I want to preserve the recovery partition. Normally I use Macrium Reflect and just create an image of the ENTIRE drive. Is there anything special I have to do? I want to backup the recovery partition so that I don't have to download the files over the internet. Can anyone recommend a better (free) disk imaging program? Updating old Macbook Pro. Advice needed Posted: 31 Jan 2019 07:30 AM PST I have a Macbook Pro, purchased in 2011. It's running El Capitan. It is so outdated and slow that I cannot even open applications anymore. I have no interest in purchasing a new one but I'd like it to be usable. I am not a heavy computer user at home so I don't need peak performance. I am not in a position where I need a new computer but I'd like to be able to use my laptop for occasional web stuff and using my Cricut. I've been asking around and people are recommending a new solid state drive (like the Samsung 860 EVO) with an adapter. Is that an option? I am extremely average when it comes to tech stuff but my husband builds his own computers so he would be able to tinker in my laptop if need be. Can anyone here make a recommendation? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
I spilled some water on my trackpad and I bought a new trackpad to replace it. Posted: 31 Jan 2019 01:26 PM PST The problem however is that I have a stripped screw on my battery and it is impossible to remove. I've tried the superglue w/ screwdriver method. I tried doing the rubberband method w/ screwdriver method. I've tried just about everything. How can I get this screw out ??? I am even willing to get someone to take the battery out for me so I can replace the track pad but no one wants to do it but I also don't want to pay a ton of money just to fix something as easy as this.
