    [Megathread] Christmas Gifts/Showing Off/Questions/Anything.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 08:52 AM PST

    Hello!

This is the place where you can talk about, show off, share anything related to iPad and iPad gifts you got this christmas.

Any "I joined the club", "My SO gave me this", "I treat myself" type of post will be deleted. Not everyone wants to look at a thousand pictures of random iPad or iPad boxes, we hope you understand :)

Please report any posts that would fall into that category to us, so we can take care of it.

After finally saving up enough, and getting ahead of my bills, I finally got an iPad!

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 09:16 AM PST

I had an iPad Pro 12.9 first gen when it released, but had to sell it, to help with bills. So I have been without one for a few years now. But I finally said to myself, "You deserve this. Get yourself your own Christmas present this year." So that's exactly what I did.

I was searching on one of those Facebook marketplace pages, and found an iPad Pro 10.5 64GB, with the Apple Pencil, both factory sealed for $500. I guess the guy got it in a raffle from work, and had no use for it. I messaged him immediately, and received it the very next day.

I'm so freaking in love with this thing. The screen is gorgeous. I've always loved doing digital art, so to be able to do that again is great.

I'm really wanting to use this for productivity in this new year, and keep myself organized as best as possible. That's one of my resolutions.

I already have Things 3 downloaded, as I use it on my phone. But what are some other great app recommendations you may use to stay on top of things, and obviously your favorite time wasting apps for when you're done with everything.

PSA: ZAGG InvisibleShield Glass+ for 2018 iPad Pro

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:46 AM PST

ZAGG franchise employee here. Corporate just notified us about a minor Face ID issue users of the InvisibleShield Glass+ have been experiencing. If Face ID is set up prior to the installation of this screen protector, which only has a cutout for the microphone and covers the rest of the front surface, Face ID will see it as an obstruction and fail to function. The remedy is to set up Face ID again after the screen protector is installed. It will penetrate the glass and function as usual. ZAGG has tested the screen protector to make sure Face ID can penetrate it before sending it into production like this instead of making a big notch around the sensors.

This affects both models (11" and 12").

    Beatmaking Apps for iPad

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 09:25 AM PST

Is the side of the iPad 6th generation meant to be magnetic enough to hold the pen, or is it just for the cases?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 03:59 AM PST

I noticed my Apple Pencil will be slightly attached to the side of the iPad, but not enough to actually hold it there. I'm thinking this magnetism is just to hold the Apple-designed cases, but I just wanted to check with you guys.

    Best Apple Smart Case alternative?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 12:27 PM PST

I am upgrading from an iPad Air to the 2018 iPad. I had the apple smart case and loved it for my air. I see that they do not make it anymore for the new iPads. Which case is the most similar to it? Ive seen a few on amazon that look like the apple case so I am looking for recommendations.

Remote Desktop app that supports full res? (iPad Pro 2018)

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:40 AM PST

    Hey guys,

I tried out the Microsoft Remote Desktop app and it isn't optimized for the resolution yet, it cuts off quite a bit.

Is there a better app that does?

    Thanks!

    Downloading Old Versions of Apps

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 02:42 PM PST

I am giving my mother one of my old iPads for Christmas. She would use it for cookbooks and media consumption. But I now realize that she won't be able to download any apps due to it being stuck on iOS 9.3 and she has never had an Apple ID before. I was hoping some of you may have a genius work around or an idea of how I can get her up and running. Appreciate any suggestions

iPad Macro Keyboard Shortcuts For Spinal Injury Patient

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 09:10 PM PST

Hey my guys, first time poster here.

I am not sure if this post properly conforms to the thread rules but I am sure you will be able to point me in the right direction if it does not, as I am new to using Reddit and understanding the best place place to post this question.

I have a family member who has recently been involved in an accident which has left him with spinal injury and next to no control in his arms, other than small, semi controlled movement. He is currently in hospital and as you can imagine gets very lonely and wishes he could contact his wife, daughters and family at home more easily. I have been doing a fair bit of research and am in the process of configuring him a keyboard with macro shortcuts which small, generic messages such as "good morning", "good night", "I love you" and other more intricate sentences to allow him to have some, although limited communication with the outside world independently.

Due to my lack of expertise in the area and no real idea of where to begin looking for information regarding how to go about this i am turning to the internet, namely Reddit.

Any point in the right direction, forums with content to which i could use to my advantage or first hand experience will be greatly appreciated. He has an iPad and personally would like this functionality to be usable through a Bluetooth keyboard to his iPad (2018) model.

If there are any other options which would be easier or more suited i am all ears and willing to try anything, no answer will be disregarded and every answer will be appreciated.

On another note he obviously has trouble using the iPad as it needs to he either in his lap or on a surface in front of him, within the area which he can touch with his limited movement. I thought maybe some sort of microphone boom arm or something similar would make it easier for him to manipulate it to a spot where he can access it, and when he needs to be attended too via hospital staff can swing it away and not have it be a hindrance to them. If anyone has any experience with these sort of equipment your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Again my apologies if this is not the right place to be asking this question but i don't know where else to go, and I am sure someone here will.

Thanks in advance for any help, have a merry Christmas and a happy new year my friends.

Best apps that utilize an external connected display?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 02:47 PM PST

In my quest to make my iPad Pro my main computer I picked up a USB-C HDMI cable and have been using my iPad "docked" while sitting at my desk. Much to my surprise I found when I was using Blink shell for programming the developers detect when an external display is connected and will output a large full size shell on my desk monitor which is a really nice touch. Sadly no other app I own has this ability but it's making me want more, like a browser or text editor.

Browsing around it doesn't seem like many developers bother including this functionality in their apps, probably since no one ever really uses it. But just curious if any of you have stumbled upon any that work with external displays?
