MacBook Pro 2010 17” Completely dead Posted: 01 Dec 2018 03:30 PM PST I was trying to reinstall OSX on my MacBook Pro 2010 17" and when I came back I find my MacBook was completely dead. MagSafe does not light up green, battery indicator does not even light up, and the MacBook does not even turn on, it's completely dead. I've tried doing SMC reset but I don't see a point of doing it when I can't even get any power through the laptop. Also I've tried disconnecting the battery for couple of minutes and reconnecting and nothing has work. I've also tried using another battery from a laptop. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2018 12:58 PM PST I bought a used mid-2013 MacBook air and had to install the OS. I got mountain lion installed and now want to upgrade to the latest Mojave. When I select it in the appstore to upgrade, I get the message "This Apple ID hasn't been used yet with the app store." I've already updated the payment and shipping method on the website (I do not have any other apple devices). When I get the message it asks me to cancel or review. If I hit review it tells me that I can't update any information until I get a newer version of ios and the cycle continues. My question is, how do I fix that app store error message so that I can upgrade my OS? Please help 😩 [link] [comments]
I’ve never used a Macbook and I have a few questions? Posted: 01 Dec 2018 10:00 AM PST What separates it from Windows laptops? Is it worth the money, because for the same amount you can get way better specs?(but then again it would be Windows) What are the biggest pros of having a Macbook? Anything else you can think of to help me decide whether to buy Macbook or Windows [link] [comments]
HELP my sister changed my admin password Posted: 01 Dec 2018 04:40 PM PST We got into a fight so I can't ask her the new password. I need to remedy this before I leave this weekend. She changed the password so she wouldn't have to put my password when she uses it. I can still access my laptop and all but I want to change it back so she won't have to use it ever again. Can/How do you Inherit Time Machine Backups? Posted: 01 Dec 2018 03:18 PM PST So i got a new 2018 MacBook, however, the trackpad was not functioning properly (it wasn't clicking or scrolling). To resolve this, i had to wipe everything and when re-migrating from my backup, not click the option to bring over "Computer and Network" settings. In doing this though, it disassociated my time machine backups. I've been poking around and found you can re-inherit the time machine backups using terminal. But... i have not been able to get it to work. Would anyone be able to help me out here/point me to a guide on what to do? Below is the what I'm seeing in Terminal

Hard Drive suggestions for mid-2009 Macbook pro 13 inch Posted: 01 Dec 2018 09:18 AM PST Hey, So I am looking for a cheap hard drive (between 50-100$ CAD) for my girlfriends macbook. She has a ton of photos and videos (600GB) so I am looking at a the 1 TB hard drives on amazon. I am just unsure of what hard drives are compatible with her macbook, can her macbook still use the 6 GB Sata even though its only designed for 3 GB? I have found two that I think would work, please let me know if these are not compatible or if you have any other suggestions. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2018 12:40 PM PST My current is 13 inch macbook pro retina (mid 2014). I've had it since Jan 2015, so nearly 4 years of use. I use my laptop everyday. Recently it's said I need to replace the battery, it's at 69% capacity and 1450 cycle count. It's about £199 to replace at apple or ive gotten advice to do it myself (as a side question: which of those two do you recommend). Now to the main question, since my MacBook is nearly 5 years old in model, and 4 years old in usage, should I be getting ready to change and upgrade to a newer one? I've decided on the 13 inch MacBook Pro without Touch Bar but to save a few hundred I want to compromise on either memory, processor or storage. I use my laptop for university a lot, running programs like Python, R, and other computer languages, using LaTex, Microsoft Word and Excel a lot. I also download a lot of movies and films to watch. Also I am a photographer so edit photos with Adobe Lightroom. Recently I have been moving photos and videos and files I don't use to an external hard drive, so I've gone from having 200GB free from my 500gb storage to having 350GB free, so I'm thinking maybe I should compromise on storage and go for the 256gb for my new one. I've gotten advice to go for the 16gb memory, so that just leaves the question of going for i5/512GB or i7/256GB Or does anyone have another suggestion. Thanks [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Dec 2018 05:39 AM PST I have the option of buying a 13 inch 2017 MBP for $600 with the following specs: 3.1 i5, 16gb ram, 512gb SSD Drive I have no idea if this is a good deal or not and looking for some advice. Thanks! [link] [comments]
MacBook Air to external monitor Posted: 01 Dec 2018 07:49 AM PST I am looking into getting an external monitor for my girlfriends MacBook Air. Seeing as the MacBook does not have an HDMI port, would a HDMI to USB adapter work the same? I am essentially trying to have the monitor act as a second screen. Will there be any issues in doing this? My apologies if this is a dumb question, I am not familiar with Mac devices. Thanks! [link] [comments]
