I think my Time Capsule is dying? It won’t connect devices to the internet

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 07:02 PM PST

My time capsule's Light is showing green and not blinking.

The airport app shows that my devices are connected to the TC with nothing crazy there.

But the app doesn't show that it's connected to the internet. I've power cycled all devices, into the TC, a few times now.

For whatever reason, my iPhone and Apple TV can connect to the network but NOT get internet.

My MacBook and iPad seem to be connected just fine, and get internet. My desktop PC get an intermittent connection.

Is my TC crapping out, or is this something else?

For what it's worth, I am in an apartment, so there's lots of networks near by, and all of my devices are close to the router. There were no issues until yesterday, when I got back from a trip.

Is it possible to install macOS onto a flash drive to use on a MacBook (Air) that has no internal storage?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 06:50 PM PST

I tried installing macOS to a USB flash drive plugged into a used MacBook air I recently purchased that doesn't have internal storage. I didn't realize how much internal storage cost when purchasing it so at the moment will not be buying any for it. But I have a few USB 3.0s that I was wondering if I can install macOS onto. So I tried installing macOS onto it but was told "You may not install this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition". Thanks for any help or if you have any questions let me know!

    Where did the Categories go?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 08:10 PM PST

So this has been bugging me for days now. I used to be able to filter games by categories. I can see the main categories are there now although bizarrely called "play", "create", and whatever but I don't see sub categories anymore. If this is really true and they removed them then has got to be the dumbest decision ever.

This means I can only view games based on Editor's choices and featured content???

What I used to do before is click on Adventure, Puzzle or Strategy and it shows me the newest games under each category. Now I can't even view the latest games of all categories. I even purchased a game that's been out in 2013 (which I have played before) because it's sticking in my face.

In a way it is making it possible to market old stuff but I don't like being controlled like this. It's reminding me of Instagram and Facebook now :/ Really disappointed and upset. I want my categories back.

    My Mac wont boot properly

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 04:48 PM PST

I have a Mac Pro 5.1 (2010) with 3 HDD's installed. One is a 1TB running Slowleopard, Another one with 2TB for File Storage and a third one ive added recently (WD Gold 4 TB). I have tried to upgrade my OS to High Sierra, but firstly the new HDD didnt show up, later on when i managed to get it displayed i formated it With Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) and GUID Partitiontable. i ended up with 2 Partitions. 1TB for the OS and 3TB for Files. After the successful Installation, i booted up and a Prohibited Symbol popped up. i restarted and holding alt to select the same partition again. long story short. everytime i boot up the symbol pops up once and after a reboot i can use the OS. but what is causing this weird issue? *Already Tried reinstalling OS in SafeMode.

    Any useful ideas appreciated :)

Macbook shows no entry sign at boot

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 06:43 PM PST

My Macbook Air late 2017 was acting up earlier today so I decided to wipe the ssd and re-install MacOS High Serria.

During the high Serria installation the computer froze and the screen stayed on even after closing it so I left it for a few hours. When I got home the computer was still like that so I shut it off.

Now every time I boot the computer it just shows a no entry sign and nothing else happens. Please help, I need my macbook to survive!

    Macbook Air Extremely Weak Hinges

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 09:43 PM PST

My 2011 11" MBA has developed really weak hinges over time. It will only stay open at a specific spot and constantly flops down with little movement. Is there a way to tighten the hinges to stop it from closing/opening to the max so often?

Cable for fast charge on 2018 iPad Pro

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 08:35 PM PST

Hey, does the cable matter for fast charging on 2018 iPad pro with the 30w adaptor? Or is it better to just stick with Apple's own USB-C to USB-C cable?

“Hey Siri” only works first time - iPhone 7

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 05:01 AM PST

This is an odd one. With an iPhone 7 saying "Hey Siri" will respond fine the first time - say play podcast.

Thereafter repeating Hey Siri does nothing, until after I have manually interacted with the phone again. Very annoying if I want to adjust playback while in the bath.

    Any ideas?

    Apple Pay cash

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 02:39 AM PST

So, Apple Pay got launched in Belgium this week (finally!!), and when I go to Wallet they also give me the chance to instal Apple Pay Cash. When I try to install it they ask for my Social Security Number (something we don't have in Belgium). Is this a bug (aka you can only use Apple Pay Cash the US) or can I get around the verification of the SSN?

    Help with a reset please

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 03:28 PM PST

Item in question.. iPad air 2

My mom's boss's wife passed about 3 years ago and among the items left behind is a iPad. It was barely used and they decided to hand it down to me for my kids recently. It sat in a closet during that 3 year interim and no one can remember the passcode to it now. I've plugged it into a computer and got it to reset and now, while trying to set it up we get hit with logging into the apple ID it is connected to. We don't know it. She changed it or something after it was set up for her.

I do have the macbook it was backed up to. Will that help me get around it?

Otherwise can I take what info I have (her bday/name/address) to have someone help me?

Otherwise is there anything else I can do? I'm kind of at the point where it doesn't seem worth it anymore to try and I just want to hand it back to them.

Space won’t clear when deleting apps and pictures

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 02:37 PM PST

I have an iPhone 7 with 256gb storage. Anyway, it's started saying that I don't have any space on the phone. I deleted multiple apps, almost every photo and video (and then cleared the recently deleted album) and it's still saying I have only 1gb remaining (even though games/apps and photos were the only things it said were taking up storage). It's got so bad that I can't even open camera. What can be the issue here, please?

Can someone help me fix a keychain issue on my 2012 MacBook Pro running Mojave?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 10:33 AM PST

Some time after updating to Mojave, my Mac seemed as though it had forgotten all my passwords. My iPhone, however still remembers them. When I update a password on my Mac, it still doesn't remember it. I read some articles and things about running the Keychain First Aid, but apparently that doesn't exist anymore? So the only other solution people have found is to create a new keychain and copy and paste everything from the old one. Is this the best solution? Can someone walk me through it? I'm pretty confused. I appreciate any help!

What kind of hardware setup do I need in order to backup my MacBook Pro wirelessly?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 02:10 PM PST

Can you guys tell me the best way to backup my Mac wirelessly?

Normally I just plug in my USB external HDD to backup my MacBook Pro using Time Machine. I would like to do this wirelessly like when Apple still manufactured the Time Capsule.

I thought I might be able to find an external HDD to connect directly to my router but when I searched Amazon for "external HDD ethernet" very few options appeared. Nearly every external HDD I found connects only with USB. Am I searching for the wrong hardware for this?

Should I find an external HDD to connect directly to my modem to do all my backups? My current router doesn't have a USB port. Should I get a different router in order to connect an HDD using USB?

Or are there different hardware options I should look into?

What's the best way to backup my Mac wirelessly?

    Thanks!

I am looking for the right sequence of events for a hard drive restoration for a 2012 MacBook air

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 01:36 PM PST

My wife has a 60GB SSD in her MacBook air. I just ordered her a 240gb SSD upgrade on OWC. I only ordered the drive as I have the tools.

She has her laptop on Sierra and I have time machine backups on a time capsule AND an external 1TB hdd. How can I get her laptop back exactly how it was once the new drive is installed? Do I install Sierra and THEN do a backup? Does it do apps and all?

What is the best way forward?

I need some help about my iPhone 7 Plus that broke recently

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 01:28 PM PST

So I recently broke my screen and the led screen so I went to get it fixed and when I got it back the 3-D touch was it working and the fingerprint won't work either. My best guess is that they actually put a iPhone 6 Plus screen with iPhone 7 Plus glass, if I'm right how can I know and does anyone of you guys know another explanation?

Work Macbook Pro won't connect to home wifi every time I come back

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 01:26 AM PST

    Hi team,

I bring my Macbook pro home with me every day after work, and every day it won't reconnect to the internet. My phone will, it works fine, just something between the laptop and the 'box' won't run.

I'll either get the message "Wi-Fi does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet" or it will self assign, but still not work. To make it run again, I either have to reset the modem, or open my network preferences, delete the connection, then reconnect by inputting my password. As you can imagine, this is a real pain to do every day.

I've tried connecting to the modem via ethernet, and going into my library and deleting my preferences there (also following the steps in this post), and I've just wiped all known connections to see if that will help - but if there's anything I can do, please let me know!

iPhone SE (6 internally supposedly?) every app needs loading in order to open

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 05:26 AM PST

Posting of the very (shit) phone, so please excuse gash formatting etc etc.

This is starting to really pisss me off. I only need close an app for a minute or so before I needs to load in order to open again.

With the exception of camera photos and clock EVERY single app is pretty much constantly sitting with a little cloud and goes through the pie chart of death in order to actually start up.

Now some BG, my phone is prettty messed up with large chunk missing from the screen by the home button.

Its also a couple years old, and nearing full capacity.

Just wandering if anyone has suffered the same problem and maybe has any suggestions towards the cause or potential solutions.

    Cheers

Is it worth getting a new hard drive for a 2012/2013 MacBook Pro?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 08:45 AM PST

Bought a refurbished Mac about 2 months ago. Works pretty well. I have the full adobe suite on it for school. Sometime when I turn it on the screen is all staticy looking (?). It still works fine, just all messed up looking lol, goes away when I restart.

Also, when using any adobe programs I get the rainbow when doing very simple tasks.

My friend recommended getting a new hard drive as I imagine the one I have now is the original (I can hear the fan running constantly).

Also battery life is not great. Lasts about 3 hours off the charger.

Is this just what I should expect from a refurbished MacBook? Is it worth replacing the hard drive/battery? I am very new to apple computers, so I don't know if buying and getting all this stuff installed is more or less money than buying a new laptop...

    any advice?

    Laggy Safari

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 12:18 PM PST

Anyone else having an issue where Safari is extremely laggy and sometimes even slows down your whole Mac? Especially when opening YouTube videos, it stutters and you have to pause it to give the page time to load and if you accidentally scroll you go do your monthly shopping while waiting for it to come back to life. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM and an SSD running Mojave 10.14.1

I’m genuinely lost on what to do with my macbook.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 12:52 AM PST

So basically I bought a macbook from a guy a few months ago while I was out of town. It worked great for a few days and when I got back home it started doing this ( https://imgur.com/gallery/HJoUVna ) I'm not too sure what it means, when i google it they say it's gpu failure. I've tried every fix i can including the magic blanket fix (put it on the charger and wrap it up to heat up the gpu or something like that) but it's stuck at this screen and will not boot. is it going to be cheaper to replace it or fix it? it's a 15in early 2011 mbp model #A1286

    Turn Off iCloud?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 12:01 PM PST

Hello, I have an iPhone running iOS 12.1. I have never before activated iCloud under my Apple ID. I accidentally activated iCloud, and it completely wiped out all the bookmarks I had saved to Safari.

I'm assuming Apple forces everyone who creates a new Apple ID to sign up for its cloud service. I created my Apple ID before they rolled out iCloud, which is why I'm assuming it was never activated on my iPhone.

I DO NOT care to use iCloud. Before, under the setting screen, the text next to the iCloud icon would read "Turned Off". How I can turn off iCloud without signing out of my Apple ID, (I use the App Store on occasion).

If I can't do this, is it possible to use the iPhone while signed out, AND not have the device constantly nag you to sign in to an Apple ID account?

    Thanks!

Huge (50 GB+) cache folder for my Photos app?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 08:09 AM PST

Is there any good way to manage the size of the ilifeassetmanagement folder on my Mac? I understand it's a cache directory for the Photos app (I'm on Sierra still if it matters), but it's taking a huge portion of my hard drive. I have my actual library on an external drive.
