What is this liquid type stuff on the SSD of this Late 2013 MacBook Pro? Should I remove it with rubbing alcohol?

    Replacing HD with SSD

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 08:55 PM PST

I think the time has come to replace my HD on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro with an SSD... it's been a long time coming.

Just curious: if I replace the drive myself, will I run into any issues with Apple if I need to get my computer repaired at the Genius Bar down the line? It's obviously no longer under warranty, but just in terms of then being able to do repairs... thanks!

What apps can I use to get the most out of my Mac?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 03:14 PM PST

I just recently got an older generation MacBook for christmas, and I was wondering what apps I should consider using in order to really take advantage of this computer. Every computer that I have had before this I have used for mostly recreational purposes (Netflix, Twitch, Gaming) and as I'm in my second year of college I kinda gotta whip my butt into adult-mode and take advantage of what I've got here. I'm also looking to start dabbling in the stock market as well.

What Programs/Apps would y'all recommend me downloading? Im really open to anything and will give it a look. Thank You!

Battery life on new MacBook Air??

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 06:07 PM PST

I just bought a brand new 2018 MacBook Air on Christmas Eve, but I feel like the battery is draining a little fast, but I'm not sure since it's my first MacBook. Just using safari, not streaming anything, it's lost about 30% in 2 hours. I did update it a couple of days ago, but I'm just wondering if that seems normal.

(Just since I posted this a minute ago, it's lost 3%)

Best way to transfer data from old MacBook Pro to new MacBook Air without all the unecessary junk

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 08:58 PM PST

I bought my wife a 2018 MacBook Air for Christmas. She is currently using a 2009 MBP. I want to transfer over all of her music and documents and was wondering the best way to do that without transferring random stuff like the downloads folder and cache. Will Migration Assistant not transfer these over? What's the quickest and most efficient way to get things transferred over without slowing down the new computer with old crap.

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 08:19 PM PST

Search It Now keeps resetting google chrome settings. Trying to remove it from my search engines but it keeps reappearing. Cannot find the original malware that is causing it. Best (preferably free) malware scanner?

Problems with 2015 Macbook Pro 15”

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 02:32 PM PST

The trackpad and keyboard are not operating at all, where the trackpad does not click at all. This happened without much warning.

The trackpad and the keyboard still show up in the system information, and there are no related errors in the system logs.

Seeing the ribbon cable online as a common issue with these machines, I replaced it and nothing changed. I measured the voltage across the regulator and it seems to match what the system info reports.

I've reinstalled High Sierra and updated to Mojave, and neither worked. I've tried resetting PRAM and SMC.

Has anyone else ran into this problem? Does anyone have any tips to fix this machine?

    MacBook external cd/dvd drive

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 04:31 PM PST

My girlfriend just bought a brand new 2018 15" MacBook Pro with the Retina display. Needless to say, Apple for their almighty wisdom have decided to get rid of a cd drive built into the MacBooks. What is everyone using for a cd drive now? I've been doing some research on them and coming up short with bad reviews.

    Thank you

    Buying a Used MacBook Pro

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 12:21 PM PST

Hey Reddit! I'm about to buy a used MacBook Pro and am hoping you can help me ensure I'm getting a good deal.

Here are the stats: Mid-2014 15in Retina display 16gigs of ram 512 SSD Nvidia Graphics Card Battery cycles a little over 600 Drive is wiped

Is reportedly in excellent shape (no dead pixels, keys looking good, no scratches)

    They're asking $750.00

So give it to me straight. Is this a good deal? Thank you!

Looking to buy my first macbook product

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 04:15 AM PST

Looking for advice. I'm a student but graduating in a year, so looking for a laptop to last me a while.

I don't do much video editing or gaming but do like to have a fast laptop.

Been looking at either the new macbook air or a touch bar macbook Pro.

I like the air but only have two ports is a downside for me, along with it not looking that future proof. Anybody have similar experience

    Thanks

    Macbook Air Better ?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 09:42 AM PST

    Hi guys,

So I have been using Ipad Pro for the last 3 years of highschool. I am going to college next spring and want to buy an Apple Laptop for that. I am thinking about buying the MacBook Air in gold tomorrow. I just want to ask from any owners of the new MacBook Air that does its keyboard suffer from the problems the Macbook pro of 2016/2017 suffered from. I know its a good laptop for me and I have an HP spectre but windows is not for me.

    Anti-Reflective Coating Issue

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 01:14 PM PST

Does anyone know if the Apple Stores still fix this issue (mainly for a 2014 Macbook Pro). I read a few articles saying it was extended and its good for 4 years from the purchase date so this will be very close to that window.

Is the MBA 2017 right for me?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 10:28 AM PST

My uni is sponsoring everybody a laptop and the budget just about covers a 2017 MBA (8/128 SSD). I'll have to carry it around everywhere so the weight and size is perfect. I'm concerned about the usage though.

    I'm gonna need it for

    1) taking notes, using excel and pdf and stuff. 2) programming. Mostly in Python and a little in Node.js. the python part isn't ML or data science, just basic stuff.

Is it possible to "press on" the back of the mac screen?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 06:14 AM PST

I was speaking to one of the mac technicians and they said it maybe be possible that the mac screen gets broken from applying too much pressure on the back of the screen. But how much pressure does it take to break (cause malfunction) the screen.. to me the mac has pretty tough shell.

Apple authorized center told me I need a new top case and a battery for my mac Book pro. Is this common?

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 09:13 AM PST

My Mac book pro 2016 track pad and keyboard suddenly stopped working, and when I got it to the authorized center they told me battery + top case to fix the issue. I read somewhere that this issue might be caused by battery expanding or something that can cause the track pad and keyboard to disconnect but I have no idea why they would say there is a faulty top case that needs replacing. I have asked for more detail into the issue but I would like to know more before discussing anything with them.

    12" macbook: 2015 vs 2016+

    Posted: 26 Dec 2018 12:21 AM PST

What are the perks of getting a macbook newer than 2015? I want a cheap ultra portable mac with retina so my cheapest bet is the 2015 model used. Am I missing much by not going with a newer model? I can't find any information on all the nuanced upgrades Apple made.
