Posted: 28 Dec 2018 01:48 AM PST Screenshots of my settings iPhone SE, iOS 12.1.2 This is driving me crazy. Over the past few months, the Facebook Messenger app has been making notification sounds even when my phone is in Do Not Disturb mode, the vibrate switch is set to silent (red), notification sounds for Messenger are set to Off in settings, and notification sounds in the Messenger app are set to Off. Yet occasionally, I still get a "blup" notification sound (which is different from the "ding" sound played notification sounds are on). I work on film sets and such a sound can ruin an entire take, and can get me fired for not muting my phone. Nothing short of entirely shutting down the phone will silence the notifications, but I need my phone to do my job. So what the hell is going on? Is this some bug that hasn't been caught for months, and isn't even bothering anyone else? [link] [comments]
Can I update my phone iOS without backing it up? Help? Posted: 28 Dec 2018 07:51 AM PST I'm currently at iOS 9.3 and I'm trying to update my iphone 6S through itunes to iOS 12 but itunes keeps wanting to back up my phone....but the thing is I only have 20 GB of free space on my laptop and my phone like like 50GB so thats not gonna work so i keep getting errors. I turned off automatic sync and backup but when I press update, it just starts backing up my phone. It'll "extract files" and then go straight to "backing up iphone" If I try updating from my phone the "Download and Install" is greyed out and it says "to download this software update, connect your iphone to itunes on your computer. [Discussion] The insatiable desire to reset your iOS device Posted: 27 Dec 2018 11:57 PM PST Do you know this desire to have a clean iPhone / iPad? You want to reset your iOS device just to get a fresh new start. What would you suggest to get control about this desire? [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Dec 2018 05:14 AM PST In light of the Instagram 'bug' which temporarily changed the entire way you scroll through your feed, I have a question regarding in-app updates. Applications such as Messenger, Instagram and Facebook I have noticed seem to update themselves and change their interfaces sometimes with no actual App Store update at all. There is no change log, no notification, nothing. Against any will, apps using this method can change at any point and begs the question of why these sorts of updates are allowed. I thought the whole point of change-logs, app updates from the App Store and the like was so that these sorts of things can get vetted before rolling out and also give users the choice to update or not, as well as seeing what's actually been changed. The application updates within some of these apps sometimes aren't even subtle and change the entire interface (e.g. Messenger), and would usually be included in a new version from the App Store. Not a server side switch which no one can predict/decline. Why do some apps use this method to update and why is it allowed when there's already a decent method of updating which gives some choice already? If one of the reasons they do this is beta testing, then why not use Test Flight? Also, does the policy of the App Store even really allow such drastic app updates/changes without using their services to supply them? [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Dec 2018 08:45 PM PST Hi there We have developed an app which includes integrated group messaging as a core part of the design. The developer is telling me that we can't get notifications when the app is force closed unless we get some kind of permission from Apple. Same issue for Android. We have subscribed to firebase but to this day we have no notifications when the app is force closed. If this is indeed correct, what can I do? Thank you. [link] [comments]

Baffling problem with an old iPad Posted: 27 Dec 2018 08:29 AM PST I have a pal who was gifted an old iPad 2. He has a 2012 MacBook Pro running Yosemite. He wrote me the following: To use the iPad2 I've been given with the MPB I must upgrade iTunes to the latest iteration, 12.12.7 I think it is. He downloaded the iTunes software from the Apple Support page, and was careful to note the system requirements, all of which are met on the MBP (OS X 10.10.5: check, ditto the others incl 400MB free disk space). Despite the above, when he goes to install the version of iTunes he downloaded, the Installer refuses, indicating that his system did not meet requirements. So, he is stuck and the iPad is now a nice paperweight. Other than upgrading from Yosemite which he is very reluctant to do because he has had bad experiences in the past when he did major system upgrades, is there _anything_ folks can suggest he might do to get this iPad to work? Many thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Dec 2018 03:16 PM PST I have been using Tailor and Picsew. I much prefer the latter. But I am still looking for an app that would take just one entire vertical screenshot of Safari from top to bottom. Currently I am having to take 19 overlapping screenshots. Tailor doesn't work and can't handle proper overlapping for this web site and/ that many. And Picsew does better but I still have to move the border lines manually to get the best result for cropping and other effects. If not, the extension works to print the entire page in Safari but does not seem to see contents of shopping cart for instance (rendered with Java?). Please advise. Thank you! [link] [comments]

Don't know where else I could post this, looking for elucidations. Posted: 27 Dec 2018 06:19 PM PST I own a (shitty) Iphone 5c, ios 10.3.3. I've always been upset about the inability to screen record on my phone, feature that was unluckily (for me) introduced with ios 11 eventually. Hence why I always tried to find some ways around it, and so without caring about the risks I started using cracked apps like AirShou, Dr Phone and shit like that. But clearly they lowkey suck in terms of functionality, except for one, Vidiyu. Now about this one in particular, I'm having a weird issue: it pretty much fucks up my phone's connection. I wouldn't know how else to put it. Everytime I stop recording, a message like "there was a connection error try again" pops up on the app (even tho it worked just fine). After that my phone starts completely ignoring any existent source of connectivity, for hours. I'd try to turn the wifi on and off, it just wouldn't connect, I even tried doing hotspot with my other iphone 4 (using a 3G connection) and it actually shows an active device connected, whilst my iphone 5c will never result connected. Anybody knows what might be causing this? Because I personally have no idea. If it can be useful, the app Vidiyu uses AirPlay Mirroring to make the screen recording happen. Though I have this issue only with this app in particular, even the other ones use AirPlay Mirroring, the only difference is that this one records the device audio too. P.S I'm not looking for "help" as in you telling me a possible way to solve this, literally nothing (besides waiting a few hours) works, I have tried restarting my phone countless times. What I'm looking for is a possible explanation as to why this would happen. [link] [comments]
What's the best texting option for ios Wifi only devices? Posted: 27 Dec 2018 11:58 AM PST My son has an Ipad Mini and an Iphone 5 that doesn't have cellular service. Is there a way my wife and I could send and receive text messages to either or both of these devices? Sorry if this has already been answered or if this isn't the appropriate place to ask!
