Best way to backup all phone and videos? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 07:26 PM PST I want to backup all the photos/videos on my iPhone. Obliviously I want to grab all the ones in the photo gallery, but also I want to grab all the photos/videos within text message conversations. There are many paid backup extractors, but is there a free one to do what I want to do? (needs to properly export live photos and HEIC in native format instead of converting) [link] [comments] |
Bought a new Macbook Air, can't adopt pre-installed apps like Pages, Keynote, etc. Posted: 23 Dec 2018 10:52 AM PST First time Mac user here, bought a Macbook Air 2018 a couple of days ago and finally decided to give Pages a try and was met with a prompt to update the app. Thinking this was completely normal clicked on update and was met with the message to sign into my Apple ID so I proceeded to sign in. After signing in I couldn't update any of the pre-installed apps. Pages, Keynote, Numbers, GarageBand, and iMovie. The error message was saying something along the lines of not being able to update these apps because my apple ID wasn't the one used to purchase these apps. At this point I was confused, I decided to uninstall all 5 of these apps and reinstall them again with my Apple ID so my Apple ID would be the one to have "purchased" said apps. The update prompts were gone now, obviously, because I just installed the latest versions. However, when I navigate to my Account Page in the App Store app, I get the message... "You have 5 apps to adopt." "To receive future updates, these bundled applications will be assigned to your Apple ID. A unique hardware identifier from your computer must be sent to Apple to verify eligibility." I proceed to hit the accept button and am met with two errors... "You're request is temporarily unable to be processed, please try again later." "Could not assign applications to your account." At this point I'm getting frustrated... I contact Apple Support and they offered no help, glad to have wasted 2 hours of my life. My only hope is for someone on this sub-reddit to offer some help and advice. So far my first experience has been horrible. I included a link for an image reference. [link] [comments] |
Can't install Bootcamp on Mac Mini "Need 64-bit Windows 10 installation USB drive or DVD." Posted: 23 Dec 2018 08:52 AM PST I've installed Bootcamp on my Macbook Pro and I know the process: Download Windows ISO > Select ISO in Bootcamp Assistant. However, Bootcamp Assistant isn't even letting me do this first step on my Mac Mini. It provides no way at all to use the ISO, it keeps asking for a DVD/USB Drive instead. I get the below message before it even gets to the Select ISO screen: So then I tried putting the ISO on an USB drive, mounting the ISO, tried an external drive, etc. Nothing works. It won't even ask to select the USB drive I put the ISO on or the mounted image. I can't get passed the first screen in Bootcamp Assistant. Why is it not even letting me select an ISO? Is there something about Mac Mini's that doesn't allow this? How do I get it to use the ISO? I would rather do this if possible. OR if that's not possible, what exactly do I need to do to create a "Windows 10 installation USB Drive"? It's a late 2014 Mac Mini Mojave 10.14.2 (18C54). Used the same MacOS and ISO file on my Macbook Pro and it worked fine. [link] [comments] |
Trying to sign into iCloud on new device, asks for passcode when I've never had one. Posted: 23 Dec 2018 02:12 PM PST From what I've seen, the passcode is usually what's used to unlock the iPhone or iPad. Since I've only had a Mac until now, I don't have a passcode to confirm my identity. Is there a way around this? I also don't have full access to my iCloud on my Mac. When I updated to Mojave, the two step authentication, a setting I absentmindedly set-up, kicked in and it too wants another device to authorize iCloud. I don't want to to this, but if I reset it, what exactly am I losing? [link] [comments] |
Sharing iTunes music between two computers on the same network? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 09:35 PM PST I have two computers at home. I would like to have them both have full access to the same iTunes library. Here is some basic information about my setup:
Here's what I'd like to be able to do:
Is such a thing possible? I am more than willing to add hardware or software to the system in order to achieve what I want to achieve. The 120GB of music in question is a mix of purchased music from the iTunes store and ripped music from CDs. [link] [comments] |
Is this covered under warranty? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 09:29 PM PST https://imgur.com/gallery/r2USTw9 I just brought this 2018 MBP a month ago and today I noticed a tiny nick on the lid. I never dropped it or banged it against anything. It just appeared out of no where. I had not even taken it out of my apartment when I noticed it. I normally wouldn't make a big deal out of this but it's right on the front of the lid and I see it every time I open it and it's driving me nuts. Has anyone had any luck getting something like this sorted out? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

USB-C charge cables shipped with 2018 MacBook Air - what is the maximum charge current supported? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 12:47 PM PST My wife recently got a 2018 MacBook Air Retina screen and it came with the 30W charger. I have a 13" MBP with the 61W charger. I found out today that not all Apple USB-C charge cables are created equal (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201700). What a mess. I can't seem to find any technical specifications for the rating of the cable shipped with the new MacBook Air based on the serial number on the cable. The cable shipped with the 2018 MacBook Air has first 3 SN on the cord: G0J. This serial number isn't listed in the apple support page. Is this Apple support page out of date based on the serial numbers that are shown? I was able to match the SN of my MBP cable to the guide (SN: DLC which supports the 61W/87W chargers). It would be nice to know if the new cables shipping with the MacBook Air Retina Screen system support 100W max (20V @ 5A). [link] [comments] |
Bootcamp - Windows cannot locate the disk and partition specified Posted: 23 Dec 2018 02:33 PM PST I am currently trying to download Windows 10 April update on my iMac. It got through the whole partitioning process but when booted into the Windows setup, I get this error. I am currently using macOS Sierra 10.12.6, and tried other things like running first aid on the HD - but nothing seems to work. Please help me out - anything will be truly appreciated! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
My iPad keyboard always replaces “if” with “of”! Posted: 23 Dec 2018 06:20 AM PST Hi! I've got a bit of a weird problem with my iPad! It's a pretty new one. Last years iPad Pro I believe. Every time I type the word "if", the keyboard seems to act as though it's never seen the word before, and will always autocorrect it to "of" instead. I don't appear to have this problem with any other word. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
What is the fastest PCIe NVME SSD that will fit in my iMac17,1 Retina 5K Late 2015 27"A1419? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 02:01 PM PST I believe the MZ-JPV5120 and MZ-KPV1T00 are compatible (and maybe the MZ-JPV512R?). I bought MZ-KKW5120 and installed it, and it seems to not be working properly. I'm thinking it might be a compatibility issue. Sometimes my iMac won't recognize/detect it. However, whenever it does recognize it, it works fine until my computer goes to sleep (or deep sleep?). When I wake the computer up from sleeping, it restarts because of a problem, a panic report corresponding to kernal_task. It then stops detecting the SSD. Does anyone know why this is happening? Is the SSD incompatible or is it a faulty SSD? Or did I need to have High Sierra on my system before installing it? This article mentions that my iMac can upgrade to the Gen 5 SSD's: https://beetstech.com/blog/apple-proprietary-ssd-ultimate-guide-to-specs-and-upgrades I noticed the MZ-KKW5120 was wider/"Fatter" in appearance than the original PCIe NVME SSD in my system. The MZ-JPV512R looks like it is closer to the size of my original PCIe SSD. Maybe I just bought the wrong SSD and need to get the MZ-JPV512R? What is the fastest SSD that is compatible with my System? [link] [comments] |
iCloud backup for photos taking too much space. Posted: 23 Dec 2018 01:58 PM PST My phone is using too much iCloud space for photos. My photos are taking up 90GB on my phone but using almost 170 of my iCloud storage. Any ideas how to fix this? [link] [comments] |

Message almost every time I turn on phone Posted: 23 Dec 2018 05:32 PM PST I've been getting a message for a while now every time I leave my phone for over a minute. It comes up twice in a row each time it happens, and it's right after unlocking the phone. I've pressed don't allow and save password many times, but it still keeps coming up. Any help would be nice! MacBook pro retina touch bar 15 sudden display death? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 01:37 PM PST My computer just went completely black. After fiddling with all types of key combinations I knew the touch bar and the keyboard got lit and I heard "voice over activated". It didn't let me enter my credentials and the display remained black. After some time everything stopped being lit again and I don't know what to do. I tried doing a reset I don't remember the name of with option+shift+control and the power button but nothing happened. I'm getting scared when reading about the black screen of death and I can't determine if that's what happened to me. Anyone with more tricks up their sleeves? Thanks for any answer! Can't add apps to the dock on new Ipad 9.7in. Posted: 23 Dec 2018 04:45 PM PST Hey all, I'm looking for help as I can't seem to drag apps into the dock on my new iPad. when I'm on a shared device, the app I'm using shows up in the dock and then goes away if I turn off the other device. I've also turned off the recommended apps in dock thing in settings. I just want to drag my own apps there but it won't let me. What to do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Dec 2018 04:37 PM PST Hi all. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015), where the screen is cut into 4 large vertical strips. The outer strips are normal, the center two, one is darker and makes black look light grey in color (and lighter colors slightly darker), the other strip makes colors lighter and brighter. Sometimes when the laptop wakes from sleep, this lighter strip has a green tint that goes away if I switch my screen around. Image here: https://imgur.com/a/EdHaAog Does anyone know the problem and if so, if it can be repaired easily? Thanks for all your help in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Dec 2018 11:07 AM PST Hello all, I make music using a program called Ableton and it is not yet fully compatible with Mojave. I have contacted the developers of Ableton and they recommend downgrading my OS until they come out with a new update for their software. The issue I am facing is that I upgraded to Mojave over a month ago and have since created and modified many files on my computer. The only way I know how to downgrade would be to restore my computer from the last saved volume on my Time Machine backup that was saved while I was still was running High Sierra. By doing this, I would be running High Sierra again, but I would have lost all of my progress on projects during the past month since I upgraded to Mojave one month ago. The only way to hold onto those recent files would be to dig through my Time Machine backup and move newly created or modified files one by one onto my computer that is now running High Sierra. Any tips or ideas on how this could potentially be less of a pain to deal with? Or is this the only option I have until Ableton puts out an update that is fully compatible with Mojave? This wouldn't be much trouble if I had found out I needed to do this shortly after upgrading to Mojave, but now that so much has been created and modified on my computer it seems like a lot of work. Thanks in advance for any insight! [link] [comments] |
Pre-installed iPhone ringtones and text tones audio files? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 02:39 PM PST I've been looking everywhere to download them, but i can't find them. Does anyone know how i can export them off of an iphone to an android? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Dec 2018 10:43 AM PST It turned up in an auctioned storage locker, and the guy who bought it recognized my name when he opened it up. Miraculous. I would like to find out anything I can about what happened to it while it was gone - are there logs somewhere that track every time the case was opened, and what was attempted? If someone logged in as a guest, would I be able to see the network they connected to? [link] [comments] |
Find My Friends showing "Location not available" for all friends Posted: 23 Dec 2018 01:25 PM PST Hi, the Find My Friends app is showing "location not available" for all my friends. See here. This has been going on for a couple days now. I've tried - Restarting, deleting the app, and force quitting it - Verified the location privacy settings on my friends' phones (all normal) - Verified our sharing location settings (looks good) My location appears on my friends phones, and I can still see their location via Find My iPhone. Upon opening the app, all the friends go to "locating" for about 3 seconds, then all at the same time say, "location not available" The location sharing was originally setup via Family Sharing if that's relevant. If anyone can figure out what's wrong, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
