Time Machine Restore on new Mac fails horribly Posted: 22 Nov 2018 12:56 AM PST Hi there, a couple of weeks ago I got an MBP 13" Mid2018 to play around with. I installed and configured it to my liking. Last thing I did was an upgrade to 10.14.1. Yesterday I got my own 15.4" Late2018 MBP. So I did all pending upgrades an the 13", did one last TM-Backup and am now trying to get that TM-Data to the new 15.4" running 10.14.1 as well. What can I say...It is not working. What I have tried so far:
I have owned macs before and setting up a new one was never that painful. Is there anything I have to do/not do to get a TM-Backup from an "old" mac to a new one? Regards, Stefan [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 10:45 AM PST I know there is the paid option with Paragon, and it works nicely but at the moment I'm saving as much money as I can, so it's not an option, any other recommendations that are free? I used Mounty, it worked but I noticed my MacBook lagging and Stuttering since I installed it, I uninstalled and it was back to working normally. So any other recommendations? [link] [comments] |

[Little Snitch] MacOS Kernel "not signed" Posted: 21 Nov 2018 05:10 PM PST I'm running little snitch 4.2.2 and my macOS Kernel is showing as "Not Signed". Is this normal or should I be worried and need to look into this? [link] [comments] |
I wish Quick Look Could loop In Mojave(10.14.1) Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:54 AM PST When I use Quick Look in the Finder to preview an mp4 I would prefer if the videos looped over and over instead of stopping at the end, because the play back button is really tiny and hard to click. Pressing space twice again works but is terribly jarring. Is there a setting to change the playback behaviour? I'm not stranger to using terminal btw, i'm just unclear which file I need to adjust. A line of command code or any other help/suggestions in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks =) [link] [comments] |
New MBA (2018) Touch ID not working out of the box. Posted: 21 Nov 2018 07:33 PM PST Anyone else having issues with Touch ID not working? Tried to set it up from the initial boot screen and no luck. Then tried to do it from system preferences and no luck there either. Contacted Apple support and they currently have me reinstalling Mojave thinking it may be a software issue. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:45 PM PST Hey! I have a MBP Late 2013 with 256GB of storage. I am using about 90GB of that storage but my Macbook takes so much time to boot up. Like 2 minutes... I'm on 10.14.1... I tried reseting the SMC and VRAM and did a clean install but that didn't do the job. Do you have an idea what I could do? [link] [comments] |
Transfer passwords from Safari Keychain to Google Chrome? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 05:25 PM PST Is there an automatic or semi-automatic way to transfer all my saved passwords from Safari Keychain to Google Chrome? Or, is there a way to take my Keychain and make it work with Google Chrome? I want to be somewhat browser-agnostic, any help is appreciated. macos Mojave 10.14.1 MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 08:24 AM PST How's it going Redditeers? So I did my first ever full backup of my MacBook using TM yesterday as I need to restore my MacBook. My TM version is using High Sierra macOS, so if I restore the MacBook and install Mojave (unless I can select the OS to use which I don't believe you can), then restore a TM backup, will there be any problems? Something wrong with my USB drive? 2015 13' MBP Posted: 21 Nov 2018 12:06 PM PST Hello. I have a 2015 13' MBP. I've had no issues with it whatsoever. I bought a 128gb USB stick to expand storage. I used it exclusively for photo and music storage. This USB was a low profile USB and I kept it plugged in all the time. It was plugged in for probably 1.5-2 years total. I never had an issue with transferring files. (Once every couple months it wouldn't show up, but after a restart or after unplugging and re-plugging it in it worked fine. I never thought anything of this) As I was transferring photos from my camera SD to my USB, my USB crashed and suddenly wouldn't allow me to write. I figured it was an issue that originated with the USB itself and got an RMA. I thought nothing of it. Until today. I am using a USB mouse and plugged it into the exact same port that I was using the USB in. The cursor is very stuttery and stops frequently. When plugged into the USB port on the opposite side of my MacBook, no issues occur. Is there any way to check if this USB port is not performing properly? What are my choices here? Should I refrain from data transfer using this USB port [link] [comments] |
Mojave/Macbook - Menu bar goes white when using external monitor Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:46 PM PST I'm running the latest beta of Mojave on my 2018 MBP 15. All of a sudden today the menu bar has started going white whenever the external monitor is in focus. I've done a bit of searching and found this post from someone having the same issue on High Sierra - so it's not a beta thing. Unfortunately that post doesn't really have an answer for the problem. Has anyone else had this and been able to fix it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 07:44 AM PST Some time after publishing a tutorial on a simple AppleScript that cleaned cache generated by an Xcode app, a friend of mine wrote yet another post. This time he shows how to build a similar cache cleaner for macOS, yet with a bunch of additional features. You can chceck this one out here: Hot to make an Xcode cleaner for MacOS Hope you enjoy this one! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 07:17 AM PST I can't seem to toggle the end time at all. It's stuck at midnight. Is this a bug ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 10:14 AM PST Currently they can only be arranged by title, date created etc. which does not put the tracks in the correct order. In the meta data the tracks are embedded with the correct track listing number in the album, but I cannot sort them this way in finder. Any help would be appreciated! I can zip all the files fine, I just need to have them in the correct order, so when someone opens the zip file, they all show up in the correct order as if they had just received a copy of the album itself, but as Digital copy. THANKS!!!!! [link] [comments] |
Can’t restore macOS after Linux Posted: 21 Nov 2018 01:36 PM PST Edit: I sorted this. My Mac couldn't read the Linux partition to edit it. I reinstalled on an external hard drive and once I was in Mojave I formatted the internal disk with disk utility. Probably a simpler way but I enjoyed figuring it out. Going to leave it here as it might be useful to someone. Cross post from ManjaroLinux or whatever their sub is called Hi guys! I'm probably going to get shit for this but I need your help! I made a time machine backup and fully installed the latest version of Manjaro Gnome on my MacBook Pro early 2015. I thought I would be able to reinstall no problem as I have done this before with Ubuntu. But now, internet restore isn't working, I get the error message "apple.com/support -200f" and I can't use the option key to boot from my external hard drive Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Mojave - Finder file info not visible Posted: 21 Nov 2018 01:11 PM PST I just updated to Mojave and the Finder file info preview column no longer shows anything in the default window size. Can't take an old screenshot so just found one on web. I'd really like to be able to see size, timestamps, dimensions etc without having to resize the window to be extra tall. Is there anyway to do this preferably by reducing whitespace padding, filename font size, or removing the new action bar thing? Are there viable Finder replacements? [link] [comments] |
Does Anybody Know What REAL Security Features Were Added In Mojave? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 12:24 PM PST I'm not talking about camera and mic requiring your consent, or safari fingerprinting being blocked, I am talking about features in the family of ASLR, AMFI, SIP, etc. Or more simply, features that would make it harder to mod your OS or for attackers to exploit your system. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Mojave live Wallpaper during Winter Posted: 21 Nov 2018 04:34 AM PST Ok so... Maybe a weird question, but my ocd is kicking in... During winter, days are shorter, at 4.00 PM it's really dark outside (compared to summer naturally)... But, my wallpaper is shining bright. Is there anything I can do to sync it to actual light conditions outside? Besides setting night wallpaper at specific time of course. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 11:59 AM PST Hello guys, I am relatively new to the Mac operating system and the only 2 versions I have used is High Sierra and Mojave (High Sierra not even a month), and I wanted to ask how the performance of your device is when scrolling on websites like apple.com, reddit.com (when opening posts and scrolling to view all the comments) and when scrolling in programs like mactracer, steam and many more, including the ones from the Mac App Store. In my experience the scrolling is so bad that it is unusable, for example on the iPad page (the one that scrolls sideways), it scrolls at 20-25fps, and in the mactracer app, when opening the window with the informations about the specific model, it scrolls at 10fps. This is driving me crazy and I can't fix it (I have no plugins or any type of software running in safari. Tried everything, reinstalling macOS, closing all the programs and even disabling graphics switching which gave me only 2fps more in safari. So I wanted to ask if you have/had similar experiences and if someone knows how to fix it. Already gave feedback to Apple about this problem. [link] [comments] |
2018 MacBook Pro Mojave 10.14.1 - Bluetooth randomly disconnects Posted: 21 Nov 2018 05:36 AM PST I bought a new 2018 MacBook Pro in August and have had bluetooth issues since I bought it. I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard and an echo dot 3rd gen I am using a bluetooth speaker. Both constantly disconnect. I've also tried using a bluetooth mouse and it would randomly disconnect too. I've tried resetting my bluetooth as well as wiping my MacBook and doing a fresh install of Mojave. Any suggestions on how to fix this? [link] [comments] |
