9 months later: iPhone 8 Plus at 88% Battery Health

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 05:24 AM PST

Considering it's advised to replace the battery at 80%, a 12% drop after 9 months seems like a lot to me. I never charge overnight (or even overcharge in general), and I have never drained the battery to 0. The lowest I've gotten is 2%, but battery levels even that low is very occasional for me.

    How are your guys' batteries?

I have the iPhone 8 Plus and I just noticed that Verizon has $400 off the iPhone X. I know about the notch and the OLED display but would switching be that big of an upgrade? I like the 16x9 ratio of the screen on the 8 Plus .. Don’t know what the iPhone X is. What about battery life as well

Interesting how everyone thinks I’m crazy to go from my iPhone X to an iPhone 8+

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 05:33 AM PST

Yeah, the iPhone X is a good phone but after a year with it...I want to go back to an iPhone 8+.

That's what I came from and I miss the home button, my screen being completely used, and just the form factor. Also I opted for the Red version which looks fucking amazing.

iPhone X and all the rest are still a bit gimmicky to me. Like I said, this is after using it for a year. I really dislike the Face ID. It's a hit or miss all the time. I've changed it over and over to see if I hit a sweet spot but no luck with that either. I miss the home button a lot. Lol.

Anyways, just wanted to rant. This is my personal opinion of course. People might think I'm crazy but I like what I like so yeah.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (Or whatever you celebrate)

Would like to see Apple up their gesture game

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 06:27 AM PST

I have been thinking this really since the Plus first appeared, but with the Max taking screen real estate to a new level I think it is something that makes even more sense from a usability standpoint.

I'm some ways the gestures are there but they aren't necessarily easy to use/reach. The things I think they could incorporate are similar to what are already in place, but take away the need to reach the edge/top of the screen.

The official Reddit app is a good example. I can swipe back with a long swipe left to right. I don't have to reach the edge to initiate. This seems to make it significantly easier to use the app. You can swipe the other way to move forward, etc.

This functionality would make Safari easier to use and numerous apps. Back in Safari can be challenging and reaching the arrow in the lower left is even harder than the swipe sometimes. Take it a step farther and have a long swipe down pull down notifications and/or control center without having to reach the top.

In my opinion there is enough real estate to make the gestures long enough to avoid accidental triggers, while at the same time making the phone more usable.

Hopefully Apple already has some ideas for future releases.

Edit: Back in messages is another use case.

    Best iPhone XR cases

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 07:03 AM PST

Does anyone with the iPhone XR have any cases they would recommend? So far the cases I have been interested in are

    1. The SolidSuit by RhinoShield
    2. Limitless 2.0 by Mous
    3. Otterbox Symmetry (The case currently on my iPhone 7)
    4. Anything that is carbon fibre or leather (and at least somewhat protective)

Im open to other cases but these are the first few that I was able to find and was interested in.

Note: I am from Canada so the case must ship there

Those with a X, how does the XS silicone case fit?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 09:29 AM PST

The X silicone cases are starting to dwindle everywhere and I figure if worse comes to worse, I can always get a XS case but am just curious if there's a noticeable difference. Pictures would be appreciated.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

    iPhone X or XR?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2018 06:26 PM PST

I've never owned an iPhone and I found a Black Friday deal that is pretty good I think. I can get $400 off an iPhone X, so I can get a 256gb iPhone X for $650 (pre-tax) vs $100 off for the XR. I've heard that the iPhone X had touch screen issues so I'm a bit worried about that. Anything else I should worry about?

    $400 off iPhone X = No Brainer?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 08:49 AM PST

Looking to upgrade my iPhone 6 within the next couple days. This Verizon discount has to be the best option, right? Only thing that's stopping me is A11 vs. A12. How much will this affect regular daily performance?

Does anyone else experiencing lag / slow response to the keyboard recently?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 05:10 AM PST

I posted a couple days ago that my keyboard won't disappear when watching videos on Facebook messenger.

Today I've noticed that my keyboard is slower than normal. Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

I have turned off my iPhone and turned it back on and it's still slow /laggy.

Any thoughts what is causing this?

Why some phones need sim for activation?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 04:43 AM PST

Got a used 6s plus a few days ago, needed to insert a sim to activate on the setup.

Got a 6s as well, didn't need a sim to activate.

    Any explanation for that?

Should I upgrade from an iPhone 7 to an XS or XR?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 01:41 AM PST

I've had my iPhone 7 since it came out and it's done me fine. It still runs pretty much perfectly, just the battery life mainly that's a lot lower. I planned on going in and having the battery replaced before the end of the year for the discounted price.

I've been considering just upgrading though. I was very committed towards buying an Apple Watch and was going to make the purchase for the SS series 4 next week but I'm considering instead of that upgrading my phone to the XS or XR. Should I or am I okay with just sticking with the 7 for longer?

Fast charging but no double “ding” sound?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 06:36 AM PST

I recently bought the apple 29watt brick and apple usb-C cable for my iPhone XS Max. From everything I've read online, it's supposed to "ding" twice when plugged into a fast charger, but mine is only dinging like a normal charger. It still seems to be fast charging as I'm getting from <5% up to >50% in about 30 minutes. Did they change it, or is something going on with my phone? Thanks!

    Dark Sky: Air Quality?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 10:10 AM PST

I'm looking for a good weather app and many were saying Dark Sky is the best, but does it show you air quality?

I live in California so I'm sure you can imagine I've been checking the air quality everyday since Camp Fire started.

Group texts not going through until way later

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 10:03 AM PST

My friend has an iPhone and there is a group chat between 3 of us. One of us just got an android and now whenever my friend sends a message to the group chat we don't receive it till around 10-20 minutes later. Makes real time conversations impossible. Any way for him to fix it?
