CleanMyMac showing completely different RAM usage than Activity Monitor. Which one is correct? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:34 PM PST I tried the program CleanMyMac X today, and did some cleaning with it. Now it is telling me that my trial is over and I need to pay to use it more. At the same time, I noticed it is showing a hugely different number of my RAM situation compared to my Macbook's own Activity Monitor. What's up with this? Is it a scam trying to get me to worry about my low RAM? (It does not let me use the "Free RAM" button anymore if I don't buy a license). [link] [comments] |
Awful Macbook Pro camera quality Posted: 21 Nov 2018 06:40 PM PST The camera on my new 2018 Macbook Pro is awful. Like it actually looks like a camcorder from 2003. Are all Macbook Pros like this? That can't be right. [link] [comments] |
QuickLookUIService (Spotlight) uses tons of CPU energy? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 01:55 PM PST Was wondering what kept making turning on my computer fans and looked in the activity monitor. According to my activity monitor, QuickLookUIService keeps using 160 or above energy impact. It turns off when if force quit through activity monitor, but nothing else works. Any tips? Should i get it looked at? MacBook Pro 15 inch 2018, 10.14.1 Mojave, 2.6 GHz [link] [comments] |
Deleting photos for more storage space, is All Photos folder in the Cloud? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 07:31 PM PST I have an Iphone 6s and I want to transfer over to an Iphone 7 that used to belong to one of my relatives. The iphone 7 is only 32 gb though and my 6s currently has about 40 gb on it. I am trying to delete some useless photos to make space. Awhile ago one of my friends messed around with my phone and now instead of having a Photostream and Camera Roll folder I only have an All Photos folder. I don't know how this was done or what it means. I do know that all of my photos are in the cloud. My question is, are these photos in the All Photos folder also on my device? I assumed they are because photos is taking up a lot of my storage space, however I just deleted a bunch of photos and it didn't seem to effect my storage. Another question is, is it possible to have photos in the cloud that aren't on my device? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Apple iPhone XS keeps saying “this accessory is not supported”? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 07:23 PM PST So I've noticed my iPhone is popping up with the "this accessory is not supported" without anything being plugged in. When I have headphones in, everything works fine. The only thing I've recently had problems with it popping up is with the headphone/charging cable splitters which didn't work with the phone. So now I've switched to a Belkin wireless charger and my device was working fine but now randomly pops up with the message when it's not on the charger and not plugged in. My iPhone is not jail broken and it is running the latest version of iOS. Any idea why it's doing this? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
MacBook Air 2018 wake up issue Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:20 PM PST Hiya guys. So my MacBook Air 2018 sometimes shows this screen when I open it in the morning. https://imgur.com/t7TqRUQ It has done it twice in the last 7 days. Apple support has mentioned resetting the SMC so I'm doing that. Has anyone else experienced this or know if this is common with macs? The square on the screen is the mouse and it can be moved. iCloud Backup not restoring Photos / Camera Roll Posted: 21 Nov 2018 09:58 PM PST Hi, Just got off the chat with Apple Support, not very helpful as the person didn't grasp the difference between iCloud Photos and iCloud Backup with Photos On. Long story short, Genius bar swapped my broken iPhone with a new one. Before we wiped the old one we made sure iCloud Backup was on for all items and a backup had happened. All Clear. Their process is to WIPE before taking into hand and replacing... I am at a loss here, lost baby pictures and all. iCloud backup, transfer has always worked for me, I have used since day 1, never had a issue, so I trusted. Does anyone have any idea whatsoever to restore an older version of iCloud backup? or something? I appreciate a ton. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
2011 MacBook Pro boots to a black screen Posted: 21 Nov 2018 09:38 PM PST Hey, so I'm pretty sure my MacBook is fucked but I want to see if you guys have any ideas. I have a late 2011 15" MacBook Pro. I was just watching YouTube on it earlier when it shut down randomly. I figured it was just a kernel panic and started it up again. The Apple logo came up, and then I entered my password. It booted to about 75% of the loading bar and then changed to a white screen, the fans started spinning up to full speed, and after about 10 seconds it restarted. This happened two more times. On the fourth time I just shut it off manually with the power button. I proceeded to reset the PRAM, the NVRAM, and the SMC. This time it changed to a black screen instead of a white screen on startup. The boot loop continued however, and I started panicking at this point. I tried recovery mode, internet recovery mode, and safe mode. Same shit, loaded to 75%, changed to a black screen, and restarted. My last option was to boot into my windows partition. The windows logo popped up, but so did 4 large blue vertical bars on the screen. And then it changed to a black screen and restarted. I can't think of anything else that it could be except the logic board, although I'm praying that it's not, because I am a poor college student and can't afford a new computer right now. I might be able to replace it myself I guess. And advice or ideas is appreciated, thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 05:41 PM PST I received a notification on my phone and my macbook that a mac named "8gepcMac (9)" (there was also some sort of foreign looking alphabet character inbetween the c and m as well) had logged into my apple id. I knew it wasn't me who had logged into that mac with my apple id so I knew there was a problem. I rushed to apple's suggestions for things like this and made a new password. I spent an hour on the phone with apple's help desk and as I did that (they were amazing by the way), as I was on the phone with them, I googled to see if anyone else has had anything similar happen to them. And I found a few reddit threads discussing this exact same thing ("8gepcMac" with a single digit number at the end) had happened to them. So I set up 2-step verification (something I had not done before on my apple id) and Apple was pretty confident that the problem was solved. Because when I and when they logged into my apple id, my iphone was the only thing listed as being logged in to my apple ID. So here is my first question, I text message on imessage from my macbook and that requires being logged into my apple id and my mac book is not listed as a device my apple id is using right now. So if I can text from my macbook using my apple ID and my macbook will not be listed as a device tied to my apple ID, how can I be so certain this intruder truly is no longer logged into my apple id with a device of their own? And by extension, why does my macbook not display as a device tied to my apple ID (like my phone shows up as) when I am logged into iMessage under my apple id on my macbook? My second question is, this isn't an isolated thing. I have seen other discussions on the internet about this same exact thing happening. How would someone have been able to log into my apple id (and others who have been through this) to do this in the first place? [link] [comments] |

Screen protector or touch issue? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 01:13 PM PST I realized the new, used iPad Pro I bought wasn't recognizing touches in procreate, or even while using my finger. The gif is me just sketching on the screen, but the iPad is not recognizing that one specific area. What do you guys think? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:04 PM PST Hey, hope someone here can help me. I found the same issue online but no one has posted any help fixing it. All of a sudden my iPhone 7 wouldn't make a call. I restarted my phone and it was stuck booting back up for over 5 minutes. Now when I try to make a call I hear nothing on my end and my speaker, add call and FaceTime buttons are greyed out. iTunes read wrong tracks on CD and don’t know how to return Posted: 21 Nov 2018 02:19 PM PST I recently bought Travis Scott's Astroworld on CD. When I went to put it onto my laptop through ITunes it asked me to choose between two (i think it said tracks but don't hold me accountable on that), and it gave me an option of two; one being a file called "Astroworld" and another called what I believe to be Japanese for Astroworld. Curious, i clicked the Japanese version, and it's just the same album just in Japanese for the track names. But I can't go back to the English version for some reason. Ejecting and putting the CD back in just voids the step of choosing between two (tracks) and I get brought straight to the Japanese versions Can anyone help me get back to the English track listings? And if that's not possible, can someone tell me if it has done any damage changing the track language? I intended to put the CD onto my phone, will it affect anything on that end? Any help appreciated, thanks [link] [comments] |
Facetime Turned On When Mac was asleep! Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:21 AM PST Today I woke up my macbook pro, I noticed the green light on the camera turned on. I was on the sign-in users page - and somehow the camera was on! I logged in - and saw facetime being on. I force closed it, and the camera light went off. I am now scared that my mac has some malware. Is there anything I can do in this case? I've already ran malwearbytes scan that said everything was clean. I installed objective-see so next time I'll know when the camera turns on. I tried looking through activity monitor, but there's just too many programs I don't know. [link] [comments] |

MacBook Air is unable to click on certain things in Chrome for some reason...? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 08:17 AM PST Here's an example: https://streamable.com/iepv2 I tried clicking the home button on reddit numerous times and nothing happens. The trackpad works fine for most things and will click on them except for a few select things. It's a problem because I can't click on my university documents to open them. Also, I couldn't click the post button on this very post in chrome so I had to open safari to post it. Does anyone know how to fix this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 01:04 PM PST As the title states, I've been trying to back up my photos and videos into my iPhoto library (yes I still call it that lol) but for some reason, nothing is showing up when I plug my phone in. I was able to sync about half of my library last week before it got stuck on one file and I didn't have time at the time to troubleshoot. Any word on how I can get these things to show up to complete the sync? [link] [comments] |
Wi-fi Keychain Pathway corruption-restarting safe? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 12:46 PM PST Hello, tried getting help on apple forums with this but got no answers, I attach the link because it has the relevant pictures in the comments which it would be easier to start with: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8640071 I have a 2012 MacBook Pro Running OSX 10.9.5. The computer doest automatically connect to preferred wifi networks anymore. These messages come up when I try and connect to the wifi ("Keychain "system" cannot be found to store "NAME OF WIFI" " and "The Wi-Fi network X could not be joined") i, but it connects fine anwyay. Pressing cancel removes the messages, but the wifi works. The problem systematically happens for seemingly all wifis and iphone hotspot connections, but they work. I checked keychain access, tried to run repair keychains, and it said nothing was wrong. I'm scared to restart the computer? Would this simply solve it or are keychain issues dangerous when it comes to restarting? Is there any way to repair this? Might simply restarting help restore things or be really dangerous? Should I run it through disk utility or something? Is this maybe malware related (Malwarebytes came back clean)? Or I dont know, would updating the OS repair it? Is updating straight to whatever then new OS is even advisable/without problems? There is further context (another, not obviously related issue with Safari that solved itself but when it did this happened) I can post in the comments if it would help Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! macOS Mojave - Menu Bar goes white when using external monitor Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:36 PM PST I'm running the latest beta of Mojave on my 2018 MBP 15. All of a sudden today the menu bar has started going white whenever the external monitor is in focus. I've done a bit of searching and found this post from someone having the same issue on High Sierra - so it's not a beta thing. Unfortunately that post doesn't really have an answer for the problem. Has anyone else had this and been able to fix it? [link] [comments] |
Reinstalling OS X on old iMac unsuccessful Posted: 21 Nov 2018 07:51 AM PST I have an old late 2009 27-inch iMac that I'm trying to put to use, probably as a Time Machine server so household Macs can back up wirelessly and we can ditch an older n-speed Time Capsule and use the ISP's ac-speed router. I knew there were graphics issues with the iMac (it would display lines around the cursor like this), and when I got the report from the last time it was taken to the Genius Bar five years ago, they had only diagnosed it as having slow internet (I know there were more issues because shortly after that a replacement iMac was purchased). I'm remotely helping a family member and via FaceTime did the following with them: dug the iMac out of storage, played around with it to make sure it generally worked, booted into Recovery Mode, used Disk Utility to erase the hard drive, then reinstalled the operating system. It downloaded the installer from the internet, so I'm not sure what version it was, but before erasing the HDD it was running OS X El Capitan 10.11.5. Now the screen looks like this and apparently doesn't progress beyond where it is. This is an old computer and if it's not usable I'll gladly recycle it, but I'm wondering if I can somehow get it up and running. Did trying to install the OS break the iMac even though it was working before? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Can't Open App From Unidentified Developer Posted: 21 Nov 2018 03:20 PM PST So I'm trying to download gimp (free app similar to photoshop) on my Macbook (OS Mojave), and keep getting the message that I can't open it because it's from an unidentified developer. I've already bypassed Gatekeeper through the terminal and clicked the "anywhere" box in my security preferences, tried this mutiple times, quitting preferences and the app installer as well to make sure the changes applied and still no luck. Any help I can get would be amazing. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2018 07:24 AM PST Hello, I'm on a MacBook Pro 15' from 2015. Today I was doing some school via Safari and a cheap black box advertising a black friday sale showed up. My school has never gotten a popup window like this before. It had a little red circle in the corner that once clicked on, removed the ad. Other than that, nothing like has shown up since or before. Do I have a virus, or is it nothing to worry about? I used MacClean and it said that there were no problematic files. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
