Favorite iPad Pro 2018 feature: Touch to wake!

    Posted: 15 Nov 2018 01:17 PM PST

Have been wanting this since my original iPad Pro, especially since I'm so used to it on my Apple Watch and iPhone X. Everything finally feels consistent (minus the 3 different chargers for each device ha)

Is the 2018 MacBook Pro actually reliable/trustworthy?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2018 06:05 PM PST

    Hi r/apple.

I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I've looked at quite a few different devices, both Windows and Apple. Unfortunately, I've read horror stories of failing components, bad wifi cards, expanding batteries, etc, customers being left high and dry.

I saw the MacBook Pro in a store and it looked alright, though expensive. Although I've heard bad things about Asus I've personally had overall good experiences with them, and was considering the new Zenbook line until I saw it would have Amazon Alexa. Quite off-putting, imo. Apparently the new MBPs have encryption chips that protect biometrics and the like, which sounds nice, even if the same chip can also act to prevent third party repair.

I wanted to ask a community of Mac (and other Apple product) users of their experience with the MBPs since 2016. Since I study, I'd really like something that I can use as my main device, that will be reliable and will not have problems that will leave me without the machine for days or even weeks. I've heard both good and bad things about Apple reliability and to be honest the keyboard issues, kernel panics, possible overheating and out of warranty repair costs are concerning.

I appreciate your time to comment

    icloud.com Performance

    Posted: 15 Nov 2018 08:05 AM PST

Apple should really work on icloud.com.

As someone who doesn't own a Mac and has to rely on the web version, I get frustrated using it a lot.

I think it could be much better, sometimes calendar events are not properly synced and disappear after closing the website. The overall perfomance needs to be improved.

I hope they will improve it at one point in the future.

Macbook Pro would be way better if there was an option for Touch Bar WITH Function Keys.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2018 07:49 AM PST

If the Touch Bar can be implemented above a row of Function Keys, it would be insanely better. The Function Keys have their own specific purposes and being able to use them while having the functionality of app specific touch bar configurations would be way better. It would be basically another screen with it's own functionality without hindering the use of Function Keys.

Excited to see where Apple takes iPad and iOS

    Posted: 15 Nov 2018 10:11 PM PST

Since 2014 I've been using an iPad starting with the iPad Air 2 until I switched to the iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd Generation. To this day I laugh at how far Apple has brought their custom silicon. I find it funny how my iPad Pro outperforms the recently released MacBook Air not to mention the MacBook as well. Yet as the iPad has become more powerful then ever iOS is seemingly more limiting then ever. Let me explain, if your new computer has the ability to process X or Y but the operating system doesn't let it, well its frustrating. You cant help but wonder why did Apple bother to put in all this performance if they didn't have plans to eventually incorporate a much more capable version of iOS and the professional apps to go along with it.

Apple should put a slider switch on the Apple TV remote to disable all controls.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2018 09:02 AM PST

Can't tell you how many times I've been watching something and lightly grazed the trackpad or went to move the remote and clicked something. Just a tiny slider switch like the original iPad had for sound.

Why are Apple Music's new music suggestions so bad?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2018 10:42 PM PST

Seriously, most of the time it's usually just albums or playlists I already have in my library or shit thats not even related to the label it's presenting (I.e: GKMC under "Since you like Michael Jackson") if it weren't for being able to add local files to your library and customizing tags/album art with the Apple Music files via iTunes I would switch to Spotify.

Besides using a vpn and not using googles services, what ways would you recommend i protect my data and privacy?

I will be looking for paid alternatives to googles "freemium" services like protonmail.
