    [Help] Siri Has Become Dysfunctional

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 06:45 PM PDT

So I have frequently been using Siri for stuff and then randomly the only thing I will hear when I toggle Siri is a ding that cuts off before a complete tone and no bar for Siri, I've restarted and shut down. Any help y'all can give would be great! P.s. I was using Garageband and stuff before the issues.

CLI Apps to use for a non-developer and request for Home-brew tips...

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 03:05 PM PDT

I'm new to the Mac world and do not have a development background; however, I have found that the terminal is sometimes much easier and more effective. I had previously installed home-brew and then mostly used common apps in the terminal (eq: Mas, M-Cli, Midnight-Commander, HTOP, etc...). I recently uninstalled all of these as I had two primary questions?

    a. Can I create too much of a security risk by exploring CLI terminal apps and not having a development background (I noticed so many options about opening ports etc that I began to get concerned...)

    b. can anyone kindly recommend any terminal cli or other apps that would be useful for someone just learning development, but not actually yet ready to create a development instance? :)

Possible to keep iTunes/Mail on Light mode while using Dark mode?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 10:24 PM PDT

Just upgraded to Mojave and loving Dark mode so far but damn, iTunes and Mail are hard to read. Is it possible to keep them on light mode?

If not... any programmers think its possible to change some code on iTunes? (or Mojave?) Sounds risky but if someone could find a way to dig behind iTunes/Mail and change it that would be great. :D

Macbook Pro 2018 13" Random Flickers

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 09:55 AM PDT

Early this month, I got my MBP2018 13" base model, which after 4 days, already has USB ports not working, so I got it replaced the same day.

So, the 2nd macbook, after getting it, I had it updated to Mojave the next day.

Installed apps like Chrome and VSCode.

Then while browsing, I noticed the screen flickers randomly, using Chrome or Safari.

I searched for the possible problems and solutions, so I tried resetting SMC and NVRAM, both didn't fixed the problem.

Tried installing Mojave Beta 3, hoping it will be fixed there, but no luck.

Tried rolling back to High Sierra, same issue.

So, reinstalled Mojave... from there I setup bootcamp for Windows10.

And for some reason, it NEVER flickers on bootcamp!

Another thing I notice, while watching videos from Netflix or Youtube, the flickers never happens,

but when I pause it or the video stopped, after few minutes or even seconds sometimes, the flicker goes back.

Aside from bootcamp, the flicker also doesn't happen on Safe Mode or Recovery Mode.

Apple Diagnostics also doesn't found any problem.

The flickers are not that bad at all, it's like when you blink your eyes, it's tolerable, but for a machine this expensive, I'm expecting a more smooth experience.

What do you think of this problem? Driver or OS issues?

Any feedback will be appreciated, thanks!

2014 MacBook Pro bottom edge not responsive

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 09:19 AM PDT

It'll register taps. It works exactly as described here:https://discussions.apple.com/message/9109261#9109261#9...

and in a couple of other places (I mean the same thing is described elsewhere).

I have a 2014 MacBook Pro and never noticed this before until around about the Mojave update (maybe before, I'm not exactly sure when I noticed). Is this some sort of palm rejection?

Virtualbox 5.2.20 finally works with Mojave

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 11:01 AM PDT

Last week it didn't work. It stucked at "Kernal driver not installed (rc=-1908)" or "VBoxDrv.kext < 5.3 Blocked By AppleKextExcludeList.kext"

Made a reinstall of Mojave today. Earlier I was playing around with older Mac OS and VB. It worked fine with El Capitan and Sierra.

upgrading older Macbook Retina 13-inch display

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 10:51 AM PDT

    Hello,

I have an older Macbook Pro circa 2012 running Mavericks (eeks!). I bought the system secondhand and until now I have been very happy. Unfortunately, some of the programs I use no longer run on the current OS. What is the level of difficulty to upgrade to Mojave? Do I need to upgrade to previous versions first, like Yosemite, El Capitan, etc., before upgrading to Mojave? Do I need to save my file off to iCloud or Google drive before I upgrade or will my data be retained? Thanks in advance.

Anything better than VNC for remotely accessing my Mac's desktop?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 07:53 AM PDT

I'd like to be able to remotely access my Mac's desktop from work. I don't like doing anything personal on my work PC. I've used RDP to connect to my Win10 machine that's at home and it works great, but VNC for my Mac is just incredibly slow. Is there anything better?

Continuity / Bluetooth 4.0 LE on older Macs?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 04:35 AM PDT

I have a MacBook Pro Mid-2010 and would benefit greatly from being able to use continuity features, partitcularly taking photos on my iPhone to my Mac or sending them by airdrop.

However, I can't do this because of the old bluetooth chip in my Mac. There are some sites (e.g. https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/get-continuity-handoff-airdrop-on-old-mac-3582632/) saying that you can buy external dongles and download software to get around this, but I can't figure out what is compatitible with High Sierra (if anything).

Please can someone help me get around this issue? Is there some other way I can quickly get photos/documents from my iPhone to my Mac? Waiting for iCloud to upload them & then appear on the mac takes up to 5 minutes, and I use this feature a lot...

    Thank you
