Very bad video quality on ATV4K :(

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 11:16 PM PDT

Hello, I bought a new ATV4K last week, and I was super excited to finally watch 4k movies for the first time, but I was disappointed with the quality it was and still so bad. Sometimes it's good and watchable, and sometimes it's just awful. And nobody uses the internet with me. My TV is samsung NU7100 and it's set to 4k HDR 60Hz, my internet speed is 42Mbps download and upload and I am using a 5m Ethernet CAT6. My HDMI cable is 4k belkin 1.5m (I read somewhere that the shorter the cable the better for 4k). I live in Kuwait (middle-east) and I have a US account, and I bought few 4K movies to watch using iTunes GiftCards, but the video quality was really bad I believe it was less than 720p! And the thing is apple tv doesn't show you which quality is currently playing! So I contacted my ISP for a whole week trying to fix it, but they said everything was good from their side, my connection is stable and my DL and UL speed are also stable at 40M+. I checked Netflix on the apple store and the quality was amazing, no buffering and great picture quality (is it good because my Netflix account is MiddleEastern?)

I thought it might be due to the fact that I am using a US iTunes account and the servers are very far, so I created a UK iTunes account and bought £10 gift card and bought a 4k movie to test. It also gave me mixed qualities, sometimes good sometimes which feels like a 480p and I would wait for it to automatically enhance the quality but it doesn't. I restarted my router many times and waited for few minutes then turn it back on, and I would face the same problem!

I have the Okla Speedtest app, and it says my internet speed is 43mb DL and 40mb UL.

So what can I do to solve this problem? Is it because of the US and Uk servers? But I always play online games on European servers with no problems at all. Youtube and Netflix works beautifully. please help me, I am truly disappointed :(

Note: my router is netgear wnr2000v5, could it be the cause of the slow speed, even though I still use ethernet.

Something Changed - now can no longer paste long URL from IOS Remote to ATV

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 02:43 PM PDT

I've specifically encountered this problem with Quadstream but I'm sure it's universal to the latest OS of AppleTV (or the remote) which did not used to have this problem. The problem occurs when I attempt to copy a long url which includes characters (such as ?) from my phone as a url in the appletv remote, and then it cuts the text off. I'm using a 3rd gen AppleTV, and an iPhone X with all updates.

Can anyone test on their end to see if i'm crazy? Here's an example of the types of characters that are included in the URL:

    http://url.address.com:80/url/playlist.m3u8?ch=1&qual=1&strm=hls

So on the above, if i tried copying and pasting into the app, it would either get cut off before or after the question mark....

FTR, this 100% worked flawlessly about 6 months ago.

Can’t stream a Movie from my phone to my Apple TV?!

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 12:14 PM PDT

Hi! I'm having trouble streaming a movie from safari to my Apple TV. I can get my phone screen and everything but when I go to play the movie from safari it just says " a problem interrupted when the content was loading" and then it disconnects from my phone, it happens with every video I try to stream threw safari, it has worked before and don't know why I can't do it anymore. I've tried cutting the power to it, looking for software updates but nothing has worked, help me!!

No surround sound from uploaded content

    Posted: 30 Oct 2018 02:47 PM PDT

My Apple TV 3 is connected to my receiver via HDMI. With Netflix, a 5.1 movie plays properly and my receiver displays a Dolby Digital signal as soon as the movie starts. However, none of my uploaded .mp4's play in surround. The video plays, but it's in stereo, even though they are 6 channel uploads. I can't figure out why they're not working or triggering my receiver.

They all worked in the past, but I had a home remodel last month and had to pack everything up. Pretty sure I've plugged everything back into the same ports as before, so this is baffling me.
