Do you use the default macOS apps (such as mail, iWorks, calendar?) Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:44 PM PDT I've been a heavy user of just the default macOS apps, but I've been getting more and more frustrated by them. I don't find that they work as well as they should, frequent crashes and improper formatting by people on the receiving end. I've been tentatively using the Office Suite, and am wondering if there's a better option for mail as well (be it gmail or something else.) What do you guys do? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2018 05:25 PM PDT Do you hate how long it takes your macbook to recognize the two finger tap gesture for "right clicks"? I googled around and found the tip here https://www.reddit.com/r/osx/comments/3omruh/why_is_there_a_delay_difference_between_two/cvynd9u/ If you disable Smart Zoom in the Trackpad preferences https://imgur.com/a/OUnMccQ the gesture becomes instant! Hopefully this helps someone out too! [link] [comments]
can I replace a key's function on keyboard of a mac? Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:32 PM PDT Hello everyone. a week ago something happened to my keyboard. Backspace and another character are not working, so every time that I have to hit backspace I should bring up virtual keyboard. Is there any way to change backspace function with another key that has less usage? (for instance eject) thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
[High Sierra] CalNCService High CPU Posted: 08 Sep 2018 12:52 AM PDT There is a lot of discussions about the this issue, including a lot of tricks trying to reset the Calendar. Like: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8463218, https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/256908/what-is-calncservice-and-why-does-it-run-hot-in-macos-sierra. I had tried both, but after awhile it is coming back One weird thing is if I disable Reminder in iCloud, the load went down to normal. Have anyone experienced the same issue, and what is your remedy. Does an older version of OSX be better for older laptop's battery life? Posted: 07 Sep 2018 12:47 PM PDT I am using an unibody MBP 15" mid 2010. I have recently changed the battery (still at 98.8% of capacity) but the battery has enough juice for an hour or less of basic web browsing or document editing. I am currently on High Sierra. My question is, as stated above, if the battery life would benefit from an older OS, say Capitan, if High Sierra is too resource-intensive on an older computer. Or is it the other way around, that High Sierra is more polished and the battery simply can't perform as well as the original (I have a replacement battery as originals were not sold anymore). Thinking of downgrading to El Capitan if there would be some benefits, as currently the battery life sucks and the laptop overheats to almost 70 degrees Celsius when watching Youtube, making it unusable. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

iCloud optimize storage and software update frustrations Posted: 07 Sep 2018 05:22 PM PDT I feel like I'm going crazy over here; I need some help. I'm trying to update to the latest version of macOS and i need more drive space to do it. I'm going through and cleaning out documents and downloads etc. but every time I make headway i cloud drive starts downloading files because it's seeing I have more space now. Everytime I get close to having enough room for the update it starts getting filled up again. Anyway to manually push files to iCloud drive and not have them auto download again once space frees up? Dark mode no longer working in Beta 9? Posted: 07 Sep 2018 12:01 PM PDT It was working fine previously but after the update, choosing dark mode in the general tab of system preferences will only change the menu bar and dock colour like in previous macOS. Is this occurring for you guys too? EDIT: Should clarify that I am on version 10.14 [link] [comments]
Copying from a Microsoft Word/TextEdit file in Preview Posted: 07 Sep 2018 11:28 AM PDT How to select and copy text from a Microsoft Word or TextEdit file in Preview the same way I can with PDF files? Is this possible? [link] [comments]

Switched from windows. What music player are you using? Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:46 AM PDT I used foobar2000 on windows, but on mac it is in beta and is not usable. I wonder what music player app I can use to play flac, aac, mp3, m4a and some other formats. It also should support tags (so I can get album picture and etc). Thank you. [link] [comments]
Exporting/Importing custom keyboard shortcuts for applications such as Keynote Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:31 AM PDT Hi all, I use a lot of custom keyboard shortcuts in Keynote (mostly set up the same way photoshop is). I set these up in the System Settings under Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> Application Shortcuts. Does anyone here know if there is an easy way to export and import these to a new machine? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2018 06:14 AM PDT Currently I was using a ImportXML in an apple script that someone had created for me and was wondering if I can use Json in an applescript? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2018 03:00 AM PDT I have a MacBook Pro (2010) that I've been using. Recently while browsing for games on the thing I accidently downloaded a virus file and now it's hijacked Safari into using Yahoo and some stupis search browser I don't care about(surprisingly leaving my Chrome alone). I've tried using an anti-virus but it doesn't seem to work. Anyone here knows how to stop the virus? [link] [comments] |
