Am I the only one who thinks of this when looking at the back of an S4?

: Like the new Competitions in watchOS 5, but instead they’re COOPERATIVE & you have to work together to get the awards !

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 05:43 AM PDT

So I had this idea, and stop me if this is already possible with the new feature added in watchOS 5.

I'm not too likely to use the new competitions feature in watchOS 5 since it's a direct "I win, you lose" type of competition.

I think it would be a lot more engaging and TEAM-oriented if I could create a cooperative competition with a friend (or even group of friends) where we have to work together to hit the goals.

There are two types I could see working:

    1. A group goal is set of say 30 minutes of workout and 400 move goal. If everyone in the group hits that target individually in the day, then everyone gets the award 🥇. "You're only as weak as your weakest player" type of challenge...everyone cheers each other on to make it.

    2. A group goal set of say 60 minutes and 800 move goal. Everyone's achievements add together and if the group totals those targets in the day, then everyone gets the award 🥈. If someone is having a hard day, someone else can step up and lift the entire team up so they can all still win the day.

    Thoughts?

I'll write up a feature request for Apple once it's discussed a bit.

Hold 0.5s either at top or bottom for notification & control centers (new feature?)

I just discovered this feature where you hold about half a second for both centers (top and bottom). Not sure if it's new or I'm just late. Apparently works anywhere / in any app other than the home screen. The app in the screenshot is third party: Things 3.

    First Apple watch

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 12:15 AM PDT

3 months ago my daughter bought me an Apple watch series 3. I wasn't convinced at the time, that I would get much out of it. I couldn't have been more wrong. I have an iMac, iPad, Macbook pro and iPhone but the device I couldn't be without now is my Apple watch and the Nike black sports loop. I don't have any third party apps.

The Health and Fitness apps are great and the rings are fun and a good motivator to get fitter, I now use the hourly Stand reminder to go to the exercise room and do a 5 or 10 minute workout, when I'm at home.

The Notifications setup mirrored from my phone is brilliant as well. I spend a lot of time in the gardens and now I don't need to carry my phone.

I will upgrade to the series 4 when it comes to Thailand in November.

    Cheers

Is anyone else only mildly impressed by the updated Siri face?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 05:33 AM PDT

I've been using it since the update so I'd imagine it's had enough time learn my usual routines at this point and I never really see anything from most apps apart from weather and sunrise / sunset info. Occasional I'll get time to travel from work around the right time. Especially missing for me is seeing any third parties apps and I've got them all turned on in watch app. I use timeline, actions, ETA, carrot weather, mail, my bank app, WhatsApp. I never seem to see any of them. Curious what other people make of it?

Apple watch for elderly parent - Fall detection & calling 911

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 06:40 AM PDT

I have never used an apple watch. But I'm thinking of getting an S4 for my mother Specifically for fall detection and calling 911. Will the S4 GPS call 911 if paired with an iPhone and in range of the iPhone, or will we have to get her the S4 with the cellular option for this feature?

WatchOS 5 Grid view vs List view

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 08:45 AM PDT

While showing a couple coworkers the app list view in watch OS 5 we discovered that the force touch from the app screen no longer provides the option to switch between list and grid. Can others confirm this? Does anyone know where to make this adjustment now? Wonder if it's a bug or removed intentionally, and if it was am I on list view forever? (Haha wouldn't be mad to be "grandfathered" in)

Strava More Accurate When Running ONLY With AW

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 01:29 AM PDT

Since not needing to take my phone with me on runs (thanks to Audible and Podcasts Apps in OS5) I have noticed the accuracy of my tracking has improved greatly.

Since taking both (AW for Strava run tracking and phone for Audible app) I noticed a definite reduction in accuracy of about 5-10% at times which resulted in poor estimation of average speed and whatnot. I had tried to solve it with all the resets and re calibration but never could. This started happening as soon I took both my phone and my watch on the run.

Since I ditch the phone at home I have seen over my last 8-10 runs that the accuracy is back to where it was with when only tracking with the phone. If I look at the map the route matches the path/road perfectly again.

So, this maybe something strange only for me but tracking worked great with only the phone or only the AW, but not both together. I don't think this is an OS5 fix either as I went for a run since OS5 with both and still had the same problem.

here are the samples. just one of each but they were consistently like this for many runs for both. In the end I was losing around around 300m over a 7km run.

    Route with AW only: https://imgur.com/a/iHkJj2v

“No Siri connection” while listening to music in car thru BT

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 08:42 AM PDT

Listening to music thru BT on Xs Max and Siri doesn't connect on my watch (watchos5). But when I pause or don't listen to music while BT connected in car, Siri on watch works. Any idea what's going on?

Does the Nike+ Edition of the S4 have everything the regular S4 has?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 03:20 AM PDT

Was wondering if it the Nike+ Editions include all the watch faces as the regular S4 or if it is only the Nike watch faces included.

They both cost the same price so was thinking it would be better to get the Nike+ variant if it includes everything the regular one has.

If anyone has a S3 Nike+ and regular S3 if they can confirm or deny that would be cool too, thanks!

FYI you can reorder the cards in your wallet, it’s just not intuitive.

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 07:43 PM PDT

When you set any card to be the Default Card, it moves it to the front of the line. If you then set another card as the Default Card, it then becomes the first in line, but the previous card moves to spot 2 (not where it was originally.)

So just figure out the order you want the cards in, and then set each card as the Default Card in reverse order from your desired order.

So yeah, it's not exactly intuitive or straightforward reordering the cards, but it is definitely possible.

New colour watch face in WatchOS 5.1 beta

People experiencing batterylife issues, try to turn off the Auto workout-detect setting.

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 05:05 AM PDT

So, I just got a S4 44mm and noticed the batterylife was worse than my S3.

My S3 would be around 60-65% after 24 hours (which includes a ton of notifications and 1-2 hours of workout on average). I would also see around 5-8% battery drain while I was asleep.

My S4 on the other hand was at 40% after 24 hours of use, and drained 10-15% during the night.

Turned off the new «auto-detect» workout features that came with WatchOS5 and this morning I wake up with only a 7% drain over night. I've been wearing my watch and checking notifications once in a while the last 5 hours and only lost 4%.

So it sucks that you have to turn off new exciting features to get proper battery life with the new watches. I dont know if its a bug or if the feature simply just drain alot of battery to constantly monitor your movements, but atleast this is a halfway solution to the problem.

Feel free to share your results aswell!

Looking for a Complication that delights my day

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 05:02 PM PDT

I love using the modular face but am still looking for a nice, text-changing complication in the huge middle space that cheers me up. Recently I have been using a daily quotes app that can be put there, but it could be still something better.
Would love to see some advices or motivationals there (or even the so called "oblique strategies").

My fulltime job is driven by creativity so I am always grateful to see something inspiring popping up.
    Any cool ideas? :)

Newer Milanese loop feels lighter than the old one, slightly different alloy?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 09:05 AM PDT

I had the S3 SS 42mm with Milanese loop, I had even worn it into the Apple Store just today as I was picking up an S4.

I purchased a standalone Milanese loop labeled as 44mm (newer stock), and it feels noticeably different! It's lighter, and not nearly as cool to the touch, and tends to form a kink opposite of where the magnet sticks. The kink is not permanent and just falls away when you lightly pull.

I much prefer the heavier, cooler version that was on my S3 for sure, does anyone have any info on this? I may try and find an older stock version if I can figure out the model numbers, or perhaps simply finding one labeled 42mm will do the trick.

New S4, is there a way to turn down the Siri response volume?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 09:02 AM PDT

Going to sleep last night, I asked my phone 'hey Siri, what's the weather at 7 am?'

I forgot siri on the watch now speaks as well, and it was so loud it scared the shit outta me.

This morning I was testing the 'raise for siri' function (works maybe 50% of the time), and again the response is brutally loud.

Any way to control the volume? If not, can I mute it altogether?

Confused about running and sleep tracking apps

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 08:59 AM PDT

It's my first watch so I'm trying to figure this out.

For running I have been using just the regular Workouts app. If I download another running app should I be "recording" my run in Workouts or in the new app? Because it seems like my gps and heart rate get recorded by the watch itself no matter what, so the apps just show me information gathered by the watch? Or would different apps record different information?

For sleeping a lot of the apps say that you don't even need the app on the Watch, I just need to wear it and go to sleep. So that means that the app on the iPhone is just reading the data that the watch collects no matter what and using it to determine when I'm sleeping. I don't care about a watch app because I'm just gonna look at the info on my phone anyway. Does that mean that it literally doesn't matter which sleep tracking app I download because they all read from the same data anyway? I know they don't use the same models probably but this means I could use one app this week and a different app next week and both would still give me 2 weeks worth of information?

    Thanks
