Owners of Series 4: Speak out. How has the first week been?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 03:04 PM PDT

I know it hasn't been a full week yet, but I bet the use most have gotten out of their first 72 hrs of Apple Watch Series 4 would span normal use within a week.

I haven't jumped on it yet, since I've been on every single iteration since it came out.

Why should I get the series 4, over Series 3 LTE ?

Has anyone come across lugs with the new curvature of the Series 4?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:16 AM PDT

The new official lugs are ever so slightly different than the ones for the previous series'...more rounded to match the curves of the casing.

Thanks to a couple of you in this Sub who explained the Siri watch face. It’s fantastic.

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 07:28 AM PDT

I completely missed the purpose of the Siri watch face. When I saw it in the gallery, I thought what's the point of putting Siri on the watch face when I can simply say "Hey Siri" while using modular with several different functions all visible. A couple of you recently described that it changes what's presented on the face throughout the day based on what Siri recognizes as important for you at that time. This is extremely useful and getting closer to a true assistant. Cheers!

    S3 - Sudden Battery Drain

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:48 AM PDT

I have an S3 Edition that has suddenly and inexplicably started draining battery incredibly fast. Nothing has changed on it aside from updating to WatchOS5 last week - but I did that on release day, and everything was fine at first.

I usually charge my watch every afternoon at work. Then I wear it throughout the remainder of the day, sleep with it on at night (in theater mode), and then use it all the next day until charging it in the afternoon again. It usually only ever makes it down to around 30% during a full 24-hour cycle.

The problem: This morning when I woke up, I noticed that my watch would not turn on. The battery was dead -- it had drained during the night somehow. So I threw it on a home charger for about 30-40 mins, and it got up to 19%, then I went to work.

On the 30-minute drive to work, the watch had drained back down to 7%, which I found very odd. So I restarted it, and tossed it on the work charger for a couple hours until it reached 100%. Then I put it back on. Within 30 minutes, it's already back down to 79%, and falling.

I haven't installed any new apps, or made any changes to my normal usage patterns. The watch itself is not getting hot or anything (which I would expect if some hung process was maxing out the CPU inside). The battery is just draining incredibly quickly.

Has anyone ever experienced this before? Any ideas as to what I can try to do? I do have AppleCare+, but I'd like to try any sort of DIY fix first if I can.

    Series 4 availability map

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:11 AM PDT

Is there anywhere online that displays a map like they have for iPhones where they show availability of the Series 4 models?

All I found so far is istocknow.com

    My thoughts after 60 days

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 02:26 PM PDT

When the Apple Watch first came out and up until recently, I thought of it as a gimmicky item. However, I do jog and bike a few times a week, so I eventually realized it might be nice to have. My friend was getting rid of his S3 to help fund a new iPhone purchase, so I took him up on his offer of $250.

Here are my thoughts after having the watch for 60 days:

    • I stopped wearing a watch 7yr ago and wasn't sure how I would adjust to wearing something on my wrist. After a few days, I barely noticed it.

    • I thought it would be annoying having to charge another device, but my 42mm only needs charging every other day, and charging doesn't take long at all, so it's really a non-issue.

    • Having the weather, date, and time on my wrist is a lot more convenient than having to pull my phone out of my pocket.

    • Having notifications on my wrist is awesome because I can leave my phone in another room or in my pocket. It's actually saved battery life because I don't need to use my phone as much.

    • I'm not obsessed with closing rings, but having them available made me realize how active/not active I am on certain days. It made me realize that a 10min bike ride isn't as much as a workout as I thought it was.

    • It's a little slow/laggy/buggy at times and not as intuitive as other Apple products I've used. Examples: Old messages that were deleted from my phone remain on the watch, deleting the messages takes more time than it does on the phone because of some lag, the Mac unlock feature doesn't always work, and when I start a workout I often forget where to swipe get to the screen to stop the workout.

    • It's a cool device, but it's not life changing for me. But, I adjusted my expectations and now think about it only as a watch with some advanced features and it meets my expectations. Would I be lost if I left my watch at home one day? Probably not. I view it as a luxury/convenience item similar to using wireless earbuds instead of wired ones.

Friendly Apple Watch FYI, a lot of people don't realize that when you're using Maps you can tap anywhere on the screen to bring up Visual Directions vs Text Directions when en route.

Is anyone else getting lit up corners on custom watch faces with a black background? It also seems to appear on the vapor face but it’s hard to tell. Also it’s much more noticeable in person. Series 4 SBSS

    Appreciation for DND options

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 08:15 AM PDT

As someone who used to often leave DND on for hours after I meant to switch it off, I'm finding the new options very useful.

I know some people don't like the extra tap required, but for me it's a definite improvement.

What's your favourite little improvement in watchOS 5?

    Apple Watch in the Trades?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 08:06 AM PDT

Hi all, I've recently started a job has that exposes me to oils and dirt and grime, it doesn't give me too much opportunity to check my phone with it being a dirty job and all.

Has anyone used an Apple Watch in an environment like this? Does it hold up? Can anyone recommend a "case," if that's a thing.

    Thanks in advance!!

Anyone else noticing more rapid battery drain on WatchOS 5?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 08:22 PM PDT

I'm on a Series 2, been great until I updated to the latest OS. Battery is around 50% by 2pm, where I used to get to 10pm and be at 75%...

Should I turn off step tracking on the phone now that I have the watch?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 07:13 AM PDT

I just got the Apple Watch Series 4 and love it. I notice in the Health app that my stepping tracking occasionally draws information from my watch and my phone. If the watch is supposedly more accurate, should I turn it off on my phone, thus forcing all tracking to come from the watch? Or were they designed to be used together.

    Thanks!

Apple watch with different iPhones models

Just got the S4 LTE 44mm and am wondering if having newer model iPhone give the watch more capabilities? Currently using 6s

    Pillow audio any good?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:51 AM PDT

My wife mentions that sometimes I talk in my sleep. I see that the Pillow app will record audio while you are sleeping. Is it worth the price to upgrade for the audio feature of Pillow?

    Transfer from samsung health?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:40 AM PDT

Hello all, I have gone back and forth from Android Wear / Galaxy Watches / Apple watches, always just an accessory. I started changing my life in July, and I started doing fitness, I have been really active in tracking everything. I recently switched back to iphone, and the apple watch. I have having a really hard time finding a way to transfer all the samsung data into apple health / activity.

I was hoping someone here might have run across a way, if anything I would really just like to have Steps / work outs and weight.

The only way I have kinda found is I can install the samsung health app also, and then I can view everything, but I would love it all in one source. Thank you!

Can you play audio on the watch itself?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:05 AM PDT

Morning all, I looked at the Series 4 in the Apple Store yesterday, but I wasn't able to answer one question (and neither were the sales people). Can you play music and podcasts on the watch itself? I mean through the built-in speaker, not over an external device. Either Apple music, podcasts or a seperate app would be fine.

If you can, what's the volume like?

I like to listen to audiobooks while working and (trying to) sleep, and I was thinking that this might be a good way to do it.

    No messages complication

I was setting up my watch face on my S4 apple watch and realized there was no messages complication. Seriously apple!? I loved that complication on my S3. Hopefully they will include it in a future update

Woodworkers of reddit, what watch do you have and how has it stood up to working in your shop?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2018 05:34 AM PDT

I'm a hobbyist woodworker and I've been wanting to get an AW for the longest time. I wanted to see what watches everyone had and how they stood up to the shop environment. Much thanks!
