Headphone jack EarPods and MacBook Air Posted: 06 Sep 2018 11:01 PM PDT Hi Anyone know if the control buttons on headphone jack EarPods work on a 2013 MacBook Air? If not, is it because of wiring differences or simply a lack of software support? [link] [comments]
Likelihood of off-brand USB-C Hub damaging MBP? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 02:12 PM PDT I realize the Satechi or similar is the end-all be-all of USB-C Hubs for the MacBook Pros, but I was wondering if there's any potential for damage from using an off-brand one? One example might be this. that I was thinking about buying. To top that off, I don't intend to charge using the hub (this one doesn't have a charging port, for example) so it would basically only be for read/write on USBA/SD and for video projection via HMDI. I'm thinking this reduces/eliminates the chances, but hey, I'd rather confirm that saving a quick buck now won't cost me a pretty penny later. [link] [comments]
Ultimate decision: Do I get an upgraded 2015 Macbook Pro or 2017-18? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 08:05 PM PDT Hello, though I am sure this question has been asked in many other forms by other posters, the details of my question may be a little different. I currently have been using: MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory: 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 StartUp Disk: APPLE SSD 256G Lately, I have been running multiple programs at the same time, audio editing and having alot of tabs open and have become concerned with RAM usage; I am considering purchasing the following upgraded 2015 version with link provided. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XLSPL70/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A21AFAS7WKHNTU&psc=1 MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) Processor: 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory: 16 GB DDR3 SDRAM StartUp Disk: 512 GB flash_memory_solid_state In the interest of value for investment, assuming I want this laptop to last for many years to come (10 years hopefully), is it worth getting the refurbished 2015 retina display i7 (at $1357) or should I fork over more money for the newer 2017-2018 models (seemingly around $1999)? I really like the design of the 2015, enjoy its more minimalist style and appreciate having the hdmi/usb-a ports BUT should I suck it up and accept that the future is in the newer versions? As a sidenote question, should I be concerned with the retina display screen warp/tearing issues that have been reported? Thanks for all of your time! [link] [comments]

Incoming college student without a computer and need advice on what to get. Posted: 06 Sep 2018 03:53 PM PDT Hello everyone, I'm an incoming freshman at college and need to buy a laptop. I've decided on getting a MacBook/MacBook Pro but have no clue how to go about this. I don't know anything about Macs or computer specs in general. Any advice on what I should get would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]
SSD and RAM Upgrade Process for MBP 2012 Posted: 06 Sep 2018 03:34 PM PDT Hi So I am interested in updating my 2012 MBP's (with SuperDrive) RAM and changing HDD to SSD. What is the process like? I know for sure I need to backup to Time Machine, but what else should I know about the process? I am doing this because I keep getting the "beachball of death" and my computer is running slower than I would like for it to. Thank you in advance! :) [link] [comments]
Macbook Air 2017 Firmware update possible without original SSD? Firmware error on HS installation Posted: 06 Sep 2018 02:35 AM PDT Hi there, i've ordered an used Macbook Air 2017 with an Apple SSD 256 GB Flash disk. The disk seems to be not the original one because when i trying to install High Sierra, it goes to a start bootloop (Fan will start for 2-3s and shut down again and so on until battery is unplugged). I'm guessing that High Sierra was never installed on this machine before and normaly High Sierra should do an EFI Firmware update to recognize AFPS (Also if the disk is not formatted as AFPS). But i read for this it needs the original disk or it will fail. Is there another option to do the firmware update without the original disk? Thx! [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 08:36 AM PDT Noticed the right speaker on my MBP sounds like it has blown or is dysfunctional. There is a rattle/whistle distortion audible when playing music etc. Is it possible to replace or repair the internal speaker? [link] [comments]
