iOS 12 contacts still have no mechanism for controlling the account they are stored in Posted: 28 Sep 2018 05:49 AM PDT When you have multiple accounts on your phone (such as gmail and exchange and icloud) you have the ability to store the contacts within any of the accounts. Due to the way the contacts app is designed, there is no way to choose which account a contact is stored in when creating a new contact. (Ok, so I think if you click "groups" and deselect every contact list except for the one you want to store the contact in, then press the + button to add a contact, it will put the contact in the corresponding account, and you can set a default account in the settings app, but this is ridiculous). There is also no way to move a contact between accounts. The end result of this is that every single person I've met who has an iPhone with multiple email accounts has a moment where half or all of their contacts "dissapear" because they were stored in some other account that they got rid of, and they had no idea their contacts were being stored there. How is it that Apple still hasn't fixed this? How hard is it to add a drop down to choose which account you want a contact to store in when you create it? Why can't this act just like the notes app, which makes it perfectly clear where the note is being stored, and allows you to move them between accounts? [link] [comments]

Is there a way to set up a Shortcut that automatically sends a text? Posted: 28 Sep 2018 01:30 AM PDT I have a Shortcut where it brings up the chat and it automatically has what I want to say already typed out, but I need to manually send it myself. Is there a way I can just set up the Shortcut so it can type the message AND send it? [link] [comments]
Contact photos don’t stay in place? Posted: 28 Sep 2018 02:56 AM PDT Whenever I set a photo for a contact and save it, it looks fine right when it's saved but after a few seconds it'll zoom in to the top left of the photo and stay there, resulting in all my contact photos to only show half a face. Is the any way to fix this? iPhone X, iOS 12 [link] [comments]
iMessage activation unsuccessful (Help!) Posted: 28 Sep 2018 04:46 AM PDT It has been 2 weeks now, i've been trying to activate iMessage and FaceTime on my number it works on my iCloud but not on my SIM number. Tried everything, reset network settings, reset all settings, turned it off and on... nothing. I don't know if its because of my beta profile but yeah this is basically it. Anyone has a solution?! Posted: 28 Sep 2018 08:12 AM PDT I do enjoy some things about the new search, but one question and one complaint. Question: How do I get to the bottom (latest) photo of a large set of search results? Complaint: The icons on the left as you start your search query appear limited to search, location and date. It would be really useful to have icons for keywords, albums and descriptions. Photos application taking up more storage space? Posted: 28 Sep 2018 07:58 AM PDT For whatever reason, Photos is taking up over 1GB of space, despite me having deleted every photo except for 4. There's nothing in the "Recently Deleted" folder either, so there's no more photos I can delete. [link] [comments]
Are there any "news" channels that don't abuse the alert feature? Posted: 28 Sep 2018 07:36 AM PDT I'd like to get "important breaking news" alerts on my iPhone. The problem I have is that most of the sources I would get my news from generally have a very different opinion of what is "breaking" than I do -- and I'm flooded with notifications for mid-level stories -- clearly just attempts to drive traffic rather than to inform me about some incredibly important breaking story. Does anyone either (1) know of a way to force channels such as CNN or NYT to actually only give breaking stories, or (2) know of a channel that uses its alerts sparingly and appropriately? Posted: 28 Sep 2018 07:21 AM PDT Here's the deal: on my 5s I get decent battery life but when I enable low power mode I get AMAZING battery life. Does anyone know specifically what it does and if you can enable those tweaks normally? [link] [comments]
How to play Podcasts from first episode? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 11:47 PM PDT Loving the new Podcasts integration with the Watch - but how do you play shows from episode 1? Listen now gives me the "latest" episode, and the only solution I can find is to go into Shows and scroll to the episode I want, which is very unApple. And counterproductive for Watch/car use. Am I missing something? [link] [comments]

Reminder strangeness - 5am alarms? Posted: 28 Sep 2018 06:33 AM PDT Trying to understand (and perhaps change) the behavior of reminders/alarms. When I create a reminder via Siri ("Remind me tomorrow at 9am to buy milk"), I get this. Perfect. When I am in the reminder app, in the Scheduled view, and I type "Buy eggs" into the blank space in the "Tomorrow" section next to the "+", I get this. Not so good - this one has both a "due" and "alarm" field, and the alarm is set for 5am! Who the hell wants an alarm at 5am and why is that the default? Any way to change this setting/behavior when using the Reminders app? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Sep 2018 06:27 AM PDT My iPhone 7 of 32 GB has 29 GB taken up by "System". I want to reclaim the space because all my other files use only about 3-4 GB. This can be done mainly via backing up and resetting and then restoring the iPhone. I can't backup via iTunes because it takes up more than 6 hours, and adding to that, around 60+ GB in creating the files on my PC. That is why I'm planning to buy a 50 GB iCloud plan and backup the phone via settings to iCloud, hoping the space will be enough for the 32 GB iPhone. Now my question is, will all my app data, specifically the WhatsApp data be backed up to iCloud when I select the iCloud backup option, along with other apps? I am asking because I cannot take the risk of losing my data here. [link] [comments]
WPA2 Enterprise networks not connecting with iOS 12 Posted: 28 Sep 2018 06:04 AM PDT I recently updated my iPhone 6 to the newest version, however upon attempting to connect to a WPA2 Enterprise network, I get an "Unable to join" error. My laptop does fine, and so did my phone before I updated it. Looking in my certificate trust settings, I can only see my version, but I'm pretty sure the new update started to block the certificate in my WPA2 network. I also cannot restore to a previous version as I did a backup while in iOS 12. Does anyone know a way around this? Thank you in advance [link] [comments]
"Hey Siri" intermittent after update to iOS12 (iPhone 7). Posted: 28 Sep 2018 05:58 AM PDT Since updating to iOS12 on my iPhone 7, launching Siri using "Hey Siri" only works some of the time. Using the home button still activates her. I've tried all the suggested fixes, and they will work at the time, but later Siri becomes unresponsive again. One thing I've noticed, if I use any app that uses the microphone, Siri's "Hey Siri" function is restored for a short time. So it seems like a permissions problem, but I don't have Siri restricted or turned off anywhere. [link] [comments]
What are your favorite examples of release notes? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 04:49 PM PDT Every once in a while there's a post complaining about very vague release notes in the App Store. For those of us here who are passionate about the topic: what are good examples of good release notes? [link] [comments] |
