| Posted: 25 Sep 2018 04:01 PM PDT So I love nightshift, and I feel it's helped me a lot, but when I tinker with my brightness, keyboard backlight brightness, or volume the nightshift will turn off while the HUD is up. Any solutions? It's very sudden and noticeable. It's not bothersome enough where I'd like turn off nightshift, but like it's a tedious annoyance. | 2017 15 inch Macbook repair question Posted: 25 Sep 2018 04:41 PM PDT Hello I wanted to ask if anyone would know this... So the situation is I had to bring in my 2017 MacBook Pro in for repairs. I had an overheating type-c port as well as my Touch Bar which stopped functioning due to a small chip. The genius expressed that the usb-c issue could be a board issue and with everything it would have to be shipped out which I am ok with. I have received my repair estimate and am wondering since I do have AppleCare+ what am I actually looking at in terms of what I will have to pay. | iPhone 6 GPS buggered. Was it screen replacement or iOS 12? Posted: 25 Sep 2018 10:31 AM PDT So the same day I updated to iOS 12, I dropped my iPhone 6 cracking the screen. Later that day I took it to a reputable 3rd party repairer and got it replaced. Now, GPS seems to be almost entirely borked. In areas where there is no WiFi or with WiFi entirety off, the phone cannot reliably tell position - particularly notable when navigating CarPlay where the phone will never start the journey. I have restored the phone using iTunes with no improvement. Just to complicate matters, I ran the iOS 12 betas without issue, but GPS seemed a bit flaky with the GM. I deleted the beta profile and installed the released version the day of the accident. So. Could the screen repair have damaged GPS in some way - an antenna? Should I take it back to the repairer? Or is iOS 12 to blame and if so, ideas? The problem occurs with both Apple and Google Maps. [link] [comments]  |

I was using my iPad normally and it had around 90% charge and suddenly it got stuck in an app and I had to force reboot by pressing both power button and home button and since it couldn't restart. I kept pressing on both those buttons but only the Apple logo shwoed up and then it shuts down again. The official solution requires the ipad to be hoocked to PC and using iTunes: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201263 There is an option for restore that I don't want to use sicne it will wipe out all data and update which according to official site it reinstalls the OS. Here in this site while mentioning the same solution: https://www.lifewire.com/ipad-recovery-mode-stuck-at-apple-logo-1994540 they say that even update button wipes out data too. What should I do to not waste any installed app or saves or anything I have inside the device? Can you please help me? | Macbook Pro 2010 hard drive issue Posted: 25 Sep 2018 01:18 PM PDT I dropped my MacBook (while running windows in boot camp) and the DVD drive sustained some damage, but I think it still runs properly. Nothing seemed wrong, since windows continued to run as usual. When I tried to restart in macos, the startup screen freezes when the bar reaches full. I think the hard drive might be damaged, just strange that it ran as usual. Question is, is there anyway to recover files from the hard drive? I've tried every shortcut imaginable on startup (recovery, target disk, diagnostic, windows installation disk) and the same thing happens. Thanks [link] [comments]  |

I wanted to tell you guys about my computer habits and maybe you can point me in the right direction as far as what upgrades i need and what I can live without. I mainly use the computer for internet surfing. I tend to watch a lot of videos. I also like to record music and edit videos as a hobby. When I run the music programs and hook up the mic to the computer I have now, sometimes it freezes, delays etc. Lastly, I work in Education so I always need to do things like typing documents, making worksheets, power points, downloading files etc. Looking at what I do, what upgrades do you think I need? Im currently looking at the 8gb memory, 512gb sotrage, and 1.3ghz 7th gen i5 processor. Will that be good enough for what I like to do? Do you recommend upgrading in certain areas? I followed instructions online about going to: Disk Utility > Internal Disk > Partition > OS X Extended (journaled) and applied. Then erased the internal hard drive, then quit Disk Utility. I go to "Reinstall OS X" Install OS X OS X El Capitan Logo is a white circle with a blue to red fade, top to bottom. Clicked continue. and a window pops up saying, "to download and restore OS X, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple." Clicked continue, then a window says "An error occured while preparing the installation. Try running this application again." Did multiple times and nothing, there's no back up or anything. I just updated my Apple Watch Series 1 to WatchOS 5 and iPhone X to iOS 12. Everything works perfectly fine, and I was excited to see that with WatchOS 5, they added back the ability to control iPhone music playback with your Apple Watch. When I go into the Music app on Apple Watch, it'll display all the playlists and songs I have on my iPhone, and I can scroll through and select what I want to hear. However, when I choose a song, say Africa by Toto, it says "Loading..." for maybe 15 seconds and then just says "Cannot play this item. There was a problem playing this item on your iPhone." Something along those lines. My iPhone will play anything just fine. But even going to the Now Playing app on Apple Watch won't show anything, even though my iPhone is playing a song. Very frustrating, as even this simple feature worked in WatchOS 4, but no longer does. I've made sure my watch is set to play music not from itself or an Apple TV or anything. It is set to play music from iPhone. My question is: do you know how to fix this issue? I've tried restarting my Apple Watch and iPhone, disconnecting the bluetooth and reconnecting, etc. Nothing seems to help at all. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

| How to get more performance out of my Late 2015 5K iMac? Posted: 25 Sep 2018 09:40 PM PDT I "inherited" my wife's 2015 5K iMac (she can no longer use it for work after a job switch). I'm using it to get into iOS development but Xcode and the simulator are both pretty sluggish. I already intend to upgrade the ram from the 8 gigs currently in there (probably to 24 gigs by adding two 8 gig dimms to the empty bays). But what I really want is to use an external SSD to improve on the non-SSD currently hosting the OS, is this possible or is the internal controller/HDD combo going to be faster than external SSD due to Thunderbolt 2 throughput? However, it keeps giving me the installer disc error that's in the title. I've downloaded the Windows iso and followed the guide straight from Apple. Apparently the computer is supposed to automatically recognize the iso and then proceed to let me choose how much space I would like to allocate to Windows. It doesn't do that though and I can't figure out why. Any help would be appreciated. I am running Mojave and it has 2 drives built in. Last night I updated my computer to Mojave and iTunes started telling me that it cannot read the data on my phone. It worked right up until the mojave update. Is there a known issue with this? I plugged my phone into my work computer (Dell) and it read my phone just fine. I've restarted it and the error still pops up. It's suggesting I restore it, but I feel like that's not the issue. | Posted: 25 Sep 2018 03:32 PM PDT The GPU in my MBP is apparently done, and I will likely junk it, but I do have some apps on there like Photoshop, etc, so it would be nice to be able to use those occasionally. So I'm wondering if I got a target display mode-capable iMac, if the Macbook might be likely to work in that capacity. Anyone know if this is even a thing? Checked activity monitor and found a certain launchd process that was using up a a large amount of the CPU. So, I have about 7k pics/videos currently downloading into my phone and I'm nervous that some won't upload. When I got my 7 a couple of years ago, a few of my pics/videos did not fully upload - it showed on my phone as a white box, but when you click on it, it would show up (I hope that makes sense). Some of my videos wouldn't play as well. I know it'll take a while for my stuff to fully transfer into this phone, but it's giving me anxiety. I don't want 7k videos/pictures to not show up on my phone unless I click on it. My friend said that some of her videos on her XS Max are not even loading for her to play. She transferred everything on Friday and didn't have as much media as I do. I guess my question is why are some of her media not playing? How can I prevent this from happening? Thank you! It has some random old SIM card in it that was disabled, not sure exactly where it came from. In order to enable Screen Time sharing with our account (we are parents in the family sharing account, their account is a child) they are insisting that we enable two-factor auth, but the number that comes up is not one of our phone numbers, it goes with the old SIM card. I don't want to enable two-factor to a number we obviously don't have access to. How to proceed from here?
