The Taptic Engine makes my other devices feel broken (I love it!) Posted: 27 Sep 2018 03:23 PM PDT This probably isn't new to anyone who's had the 7/8/X, but the updated Taptic Engine is really really nice. I'm coming from a 6s which had the first gen Taptic Engine - more of a thud than a thump, and was apparently too small and wimpy to add the UI-based haptics. There's just this depth to the phone/UI that's really satisfying. The little click when swiping into multitasking. The ticker dial clicking in timers. Photos thumping when reaching max/min zoom. Pulling down to refresh. Hitting top/bottom brightness. Narwhal (and Apollo) feel way cooler to use. I think Apollo had haptics on the 6s but it was missing from Narwhal. It's not essential, but it's such a neat little flourish that makes me really happy. And I've come to expect it. Going back to my older devices, I'm let down when I don't get the satisfying physical thump when I'm doing something. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:01 AM PDT FaceTime used to have a camera switch button right on screen under your face so you can switch easily between front and rear cameras. Now they buried it in a menu screen and you can't even see if it flipped or not since the menu covers the screen lol. And on messages you could easily attach an image with one hand - now it's replaced with widgets and the photo attach is the far left corner, making you use both hands. What the hell were they thinking? Everything else seems like a huge improvement though and it's fast as hell! I'm on an X and I notice it immediately how much quicker it is. Shame they made those two mistakes... [link] [comments] |

Finally, an Apple Music playlist I loved!- “Hey Siri, play some music you think I would like.” Posted: 27 Sep 2018 05:01 PM PDT I've been using Apple Music for a couple months and I've been pretty underwhelmed by the playlists, so I tried the Siri command in the title and I was surprised at how well she did. I also tried limiting to a genre, "Hey Siri, play some metal you think I would like" and was equally pleased with the results. Give it a try! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Sep 2018 09:25 PM PDT Lost my debit card today, just called chase to have it replaced and my new card was instantly added to my wallet. Really cool. If only more stores would start accepting Apple Pay [link] [comments] |
Shortcuts needs an Apple Watch app Posted: 27 Sep 2018 10:45 AM PDT It'd be perfect for such a small screen size. Maybe even a shortcuts watch face along the lines of the Siri watch face, or just integration with that one. Any thoughts on this? [link] [comments] |

Do you think apple will ever introduce some simple multitasking on iPhones? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:39 PM PDT I just came from a google pixel 2 XL to a XS Max and man am I loving it. The whole experience is so much smoother. I had iPhones(3GS,4,5,6plus,7plus) before deciding to try out the pixel 2 xl/android. There are features I liked on android such as multitasking and google assistant is far superior to Siri. But iOS as a whole is much smoother and the features just work like their supposed to. But I do miss being able to watch YouTube and doing something else at the same time instead of having to keep switching apps. With how smooth the iPhone runs everything I am more than sure that it's capable of simple split screen or picture in picture multitasking. What's the reason you believe apple hasn't released this yet? [link] [comments] |
iPhone Xs (Max) owners: How has your cellular reception been? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 10:32 PM PDT I've been wondering what you've experienced with your new phones so far. Having used mine for about a week now, I definitely notice fewer bars in the icon. It has still never lost connection whereever I was, though. In terms of actual issues, I've only ever had trouble when calling from my car (i.e. while moving quickly) - there were times when my calls were interrupted. I'm unsure what to do now. I really love the new phones and it's been a great upgrade coming from the 6S Plus, but I could technically still return mine until next Friday. It bugs me a bit, especially after spending 1149€ on this thing. Then again, „downgrading" to the X would mean losing the great camera, which was one of my main motivators in getting the XS. What is everybody’s favorite Siri shortcuts? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:24 AM PDT So far I've been enjoying some very basic Siri shortcuts - playing Overcast playlists and sending eta notifications to family when leaving locations. I'm curious what your favorite workflow and shortcuts are? [link] [comments] |
With Mojave’s new dark mode I can’t tell if I’m private browsing or not? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 07:27 AM PDT Now it feels like I'm about to watch some porn every time I start browsing! [link] [comments] |
iPhone XR Receives FCC Approval Ahead of October 19 Pre-Orders Posted: 27 Sep 2018 08:33 AM PDT |
Posted: 27 Sep 2018 01:01 PM PDT This seems so obvious but I never thought of it until now. [link] [comments] |
2nd defective iPhone XS display? What gives? Is Apple using LG? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:49 PM PDT First unit had weird reddish tint in dark UI areas like the Clock app, Spotify and Netflix. This one has brightness uniformity issues. My friend with a XS Max reports no issues, is Apple using LG for XS supply? Has this been confirmed? [link] [comments] |

Constant stuttering of audio through BlueTooth on 2016 13" MacBook Pro w/ Tb Posted: 28 Sep 2018 01:04 AM PDT I've noticed that since a while ago, every time I use a BlueTooth device on my laptop to play music, after a while the music starts lagging so much it's unbearable. I have to stop the music for a bit, wait, and then continue like nothing happened. Then, after a while, it just starts lagging again. I've also noticed the same problem with my Magic Mouse. It's just laggy all the time. It's not sharp, and it's often hard for me to click on a precise thing, because the mouse is laggy and it's hard to project where the cursor is going to be with which movement. Does anyone know a solution for this? [link] [comments] |
I never thought I’d need Screen Time restrictions, but now I’m having second thoughts. Posted: 27 Sep 2018 06:41 PM PDT https://i.imgur.com/LckDv1g.jpg Thanks to Apple's new Screen Time tool I realize I might have a problem. [link] [comments] |
Apple’s apps hinting at a potential redesign? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 04:36 PM PDT So I couldn't help but notice that some of Apple's native apps as of late have added some depth back to the UI with the redesigned App Store, the Apple Store app, and the Books app: Notice the focus on depth and shadows? I especially like what they've done in the Books app as it sets it apart with the font which works for that particular app, I don't think every app has to have the same font or look as it makes everything look sterile and boring. It kind of reminds me of iOS 6 where every app had its own identity with different textures and colours. I really hope this is a taste of what's to come in the next redesign as I think this flat trend which has been common place since iOS 7 needs to be changed with some depth and shadows finally added back to the OS. We are currently six versions in with this flat design, which is the same amount of versions we had with the skeumorphic look from iOS 1-6 before we got the flat look. Will the next version bring us the next fresh design with some much needed depth back to the OS like in some of their native apps, or am I looking too much into this? Potentially in iOS 13 with the rumoured redesign perhaps? [link] [comments] |
