    Hello, I am trying to move some files from a windows backup that is on a Seagate back up drive. What is the best way of picking and choosing what files to bring over to my new Mac?

    I did a bunch of googling but there doesn't seem to be any recent conversation on this topic. Any help is much appreciated.

    MacOS shortcut setup via CLI?

    Hello all,

    I am currently writing up some ansible plays to configure my workstation faster whenever I get a new one. This is the fourth time that I am setting up my Mac the way that I like it and I was wondering if anyone knows how to configure global keyboard shortcuts via the terminal. Every-time that I search the internets for this I end up with results on how to configure bash shortcuts, which I now how to do. I just want to switch my key binding for taking a screenshot or copy/paste in an automated fashion that can be version controlled. I am not looking for tutorials on `bind` or `alias`.

    10.14 Beta Mac App Store issue

    For some reason my Mac becomes really sluggish and slow whenever I open Mac App Store to update applications.. I actually find the trackpad cutting out while I am moving the cursor until I close the app. Anyone else experiencing that issue?

    Fusion drive weirldy shows as two drives.

    So, I bought a 3rd party ssd and created a fusion drive with the built in hdd. After I started up my macbook the startup took quite long (around 3 minutes).

    When I opened up "About this mac" this showed up (with the second drive endlessly calculating. But it shows up as one drive in finder.

    The computer is slow at first, but after a while it seems faster (but still kinda slow).

    A drive speed test shows this.

    Anyone knows what the problem could be?

    Hi,

    so i just decided to upgrade from High Sierra to the Public Beta of mojave. I can't really comment on stuff like

    battery life and so on, as I've just installed it - however I immediately noticed some kind of issue with the boxes

    around the file names when I expand the Download folder from the dock (see images). I guess that it's probably due to the fact that I'm on a 2012 non-retina Macbook Pro(9,2), but I'm not sure...has anyone of you experienced this too? It also doesn't matter if dark mode or light mode is on, and I've never noticed this on previous OS versions. Oh yeah, I'm currently on build 18A353d, so this should be the most recent one available.

    How do I remove a keyboard shortcut not listed in settings? "Command + comma" brings up autofill but that is the same function for subscripts in google docs

    Browser Performance & Battery Life Results

    I wanted to see which modern browser was the fastest on my Mac laptop, but I don't trust out of date benchmarks posted by CNET, and I run beta browsers with a bunch of plugins enabled...some of which can impact performance (like ad blockers). I've seen all the claims that Safari is better than Chrome, but a claim without data is just a story, and I haven't seen any tests that included the use of plugins. So I ran my own Web 3 Basemark Tests, in a loop loading a specified gmail folder as well as my reddit home page until my battery died. Note that I don't consider the total times to be relevant, as these benchmarks push the machine and CPU pretty hard - harder than most do while using the web....what's important is the difference.

    Each browser had the same set of plugins loaded (1Password, uBlock Origin, Zoom, Amazon Assistant).

    Here's my results:

    Browser Benchmark Result Battery Life
    Chrome 69 640.97 93 min
    Firefox 62 499.94 130 min
    Safari 62 (tech preview) 609.11 161 min

    For me, I will miss a couple of my ancillary (but not super important) plugins from Chrome at the benefit of a significant increase in battery life by moving to Safari.

    [HELP] Odd results with Microsoft fonts and Google Drive

    In safari, Cambria and other Microsoft fonts show up differently in google docs than in other browsers and as a PDF. This doesn't happen with other fonts like arial. Has anyone else run into this and found a fix (other than use Chrome)?

    [Help] How can I sync together my macbook pro and pixelbook? (read description)

    • I want to use the pixelbook as an external display of sorts.
    • I want the screen to be extended from my macbook pro to my pixelbook.
    • I want to be able to use the keyboard & trackpad for both.

    Annoying subtle upselling of iCloud drive in High Sierra

    Default save location is drive. Even if I duplicate and modify a file and close it, it auto saves to drive without even asking me let alone saving in the same location as the duplicate.

    Then when you move from drive to where it was supposed to go it asks for confirmation, whereas there's never any confirmation requests when you move files.

    Annoying.
