2018 MBP 13 or 15 inch for 4k external monitor? Posted: 11 Aug 2018 09:04 PM PDT I'm wondering if the 13 inch model with the integrated gpu would make using a 4k external monitor feel sluggish? Used to have a Dell XPS 13 from a couple of years ago that did have that issue. I'll have the budget to buy either next month, but think the 13 inch looks nicer. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro 13'' 2018 Sleep Glitch Posted: 11 Aug 2018 08:35 PM PDT I've been using my new Macbook for roughly a week now, and everything has gone smoothly until just now. I opened my macbook from sleep and the screen was just full of colorful lines similar to this picture https://cdn.cultofmac.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/86338d1288707361-macbook-air-11-foto.jpg I tried closing and opening the lid a few times to see if the problem would fix itself, but it didn't. Finally just forced the power off and rebooted which fixed it. Does anyone know why the problem occurred and if there is a permanent fix for it? [link] [comments] |
Laptop Use Post Schooling/Non Creatives Posted: 11 Aug 2018 07:22 PM PDT So I bought an 11inch 2014 Air while in Grad school. Now that I've earned my degree, I pretty much use it for media consumption or downloading files online. It's that last part that can't really be done on an iPad. With my non-retina Air, I'd argue that a retina screen alone is worth it, and I'd still be able to download files. Plus, if I ever did get into editing or more creative things, having a MBP would help. My question is, if you're not a creative or even use laptops for actual work, is buying a new MacBook or laptop worth it? What do you do with it if you're no longer a student/professional, but can't accomplish all of what you like on an iPad or tablet? [link] [comments] |
Considering Macbook Pro 2018 questions Posted: 11 Aug 2018 01:27 PM PDT Hello! I'm considering getting Macbook Pro 2018 version (13" for budget reasons) after my zenbook slowly showing its age and I have lots of questions regarding it. At this point I have never owned an apple device before but I'd like a change in perspective and experience with the Os. Some background: I study computer science equilavent in Finland and I plan to do 2d game and smartphone app development. I don't want to limit myself to one or another. When I make games I'm going to create my own music and art for it. I own a wacom intous 5 drawing tablet so I won't need a touch screen like in surface book or laptop. I'm interested in the longevity of the device and the user experience when I have to use the computer a lot. So my questions: Will the Macbook pro 2018 last for atleast 5 years, how is the durability? I'm really careful with my devices. How is the keyboard after the keyboard&silicone update? Any worries if the keyboard is going to get broken as easily? I dont want to worry about things like that after buying a 2000 euro machine. Should I wait for newer machines, I've heard that there might be a new line of machines coming out soon? Have you been happy with that device? Thank you for any help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2018 06:40 PM PDT I have a MacBook Air that's about 4 years old. Updated iTunes yesterday and this morning all I get is a blank screen. I looked up some options online trying to reset set it and no luck. I left it all day and I now see the battery needing charging come up on the screen. I plug in the charger and get a blank screen but the Apple logo does light up. The caps lock does not light up. TIA for any help or suggestions [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Aug 2018 07:03 AM PDT Decided on the 13 inch over the 15 finally, now I'm having doubts about something else.
Question: is the i7 worth the upgrade? Truly the computer is more than I need and I already have an understanding of that. But with the updates to the i5, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be sufficient with the other upgrades? Looking for longevity rather than buying based on my workload. I have plans for law school in ~3-4 years and with the cost of law school, I'd rather not buy another laptop between now and then after I buy this machine. My current MacBook Pro is ~7 yrs old and was not "future proof" being that it was a base model. So looking for the same longevity from my new device. [link] [comments] |
How do you increase power output when charging Android phones on Macbook Air? Posted: 11 Aug 2018 01:49 PM PDT When charging my Samsung phone through my 2017 Macbook Air, I get about 1% ever 10 minutes. Is there a way to increase the power output of my macbook's USB ports to get a faster charge? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
What charger do i need for a 2014 macbook Posted: 11 Aug 2018 04:30 PM PDT |
Posted: 11 Aug 2018 06:03 AM PDT This is my tiny workspace: https://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/spr/19184443/ There's practically no space for a freestanding monitor as my MacBook 12" takes up 1/2 of the desk top and I need the other half for non-computing tasks. Even though the work area is wall-mounted, the wall was such a bitch to drill into that wall mounting anything else is out of the question. However, I am open to buying and installing a monitor arm to a shelf. I don't need nor want a 20+ inch monitor - in fact, I would be fine with a 12" monitor akin to the MacBook's display. I won't use this monitor for gaming or other intensive multimedia tasks; I just want more desktop space for documents or webpages. I already have a USB-C dock and it has VGA or HDMI-out support, as well as a couple of USB-A ports. What options do I have? [link] [comments] |
Should I buy a new MacBook NOW, or wait for this rumored elusive update? Posted: 11 Aug 2018 06:49 AM PDT MAIN QUESTION (TL;DR): Should I buy a MacBook NOW, or wait for an elusive update? I tried posting this on the megathread but I didn't get any answers, maybe more visibility will help. School is starting again for me August 27. I am in the market for a brand new MacBook (Not MacBook Pro). I have resolved to buy it from Apple because I get a meager discount and free headphones when I purchase through the Education Store on the site. I have to use that student discount while I got it. I have done some research and here is what I want to go with based on the current model:
Using it for:
I have read countless articles about how a newer MacBook is just around the corner. Many people are saying late-August, some September, and some October for when this new update is dropping. I am very intrigued because the "1 USB-C" port thing worries me. I have a multi-port in my cart on Amazon by Belkin, so I can make it work, but I am concerned about buying this machine now if a new one (with potentially better ports) is coming soon. I had my eyes on the MacBook Air for a while because it had USB-3 ports for my flash drives and was significantly more affordable than the MacBook or MacBook Pro. I am not interested in a MacBook Pro simply because I will not be using it for design, music, or photography beyond my very amateur hobbies. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions or information is helpful. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Using an external display - question Posted: 11 Aug 2018 12:13 PM PDT Maybe this is a silly question so bear with me. I have a MacBook Air and an hp monitor. I plan to get mini display port to hdmi. But... When I'm using my MacBook Pro connected to this screen, can I type using its keyboard? Or do I need to use a Bluetooth keyboard? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Is the MBP w/ TB back case (Apple logo side) replacable/repaintable? Posted: 11 Aug 2018 03:29 AM PDT While I was traveling, one of the TSA workers at the airport thought it would be a great idea to take my MacBook out of its sleeve and place it in the scanner box logo side down. This resulted in a ton of scratches since they never clean the loading boxes and they're full of little scratchy things. The reflective apple logo itself is pretty scratched as well as most of the surface. Does anyone know if it's possible to get this side of the outer case replaced? Or better yet, are there any paint touch up services out there? I'm a little pernickity when it comes to scuffs and scratches, especially when it comes to my electronics. inb4 use a sharpie/cover it up [link] [comments] |
