The local Apple store delivered my iPad today...via courier. Posted: 01 Jul 2018 10:53 AM PDT I decided last night to pull the trigger and order a 2018 iPad 128GB in gold. I was purchasing it online with the intent to pick it up in the store when I saw an option for local courier delivery...I did not know that was a thing! I chose it because for me, it was worth a $9 delivery fee to avoid going to the mall, plus I was curious. I got a two hour delivery window estimate and text updates with the courier's progress. They appear to use contractors (my delivery person was a guy in a Lexus SUV with a dog hanging out the window) and he was within three minutes of the estimated arrival. This might be old news to some, but I did not know this was a thing...I'm sure you have to spend a minimum amount of money, and I'm not sure it's available in all markets (Portland here) but I just wanted to share because I thought it was cool. :) [link] [comments] |
Long time Android user. I'm looking to purchase a iPad 9.7" (2018) Posted: 01 Jul 2018 02:51 AM PDT The state of Android tablets is really depressing, and I don't particularly like Chrome OS. I've got a Amazon HD 8 is what I have right now, with the Play Store being side loaded. It's a great budget tablet, but I'm yearning for something more powerful. The iPad 9.7"(2018) seems like the perfect match. I have a few questions about iPads/iOS. 1.) Can I use iMessage, or will that screw up sending SMS messages on my Android phone? 2.) Can I retrieve old songs on iTunes, that were purchased long ago when I had a old school iPod? 3.) What's the actual storage space on the 32GB model? Is this enough storage on a iOS device? 4.) Folding case suggestions? 5.) App suggestions? Is it easy to use Google services on iOS? Is Gmail better, or the email app that comes preinstalled? Best Reddit app? Does the official app suck like on Android? I use Relay Pro. 6.) Best keyboard, or should I stick with the stock one? 7.) How can I use split screen? Thanks for the help. It's greatly appreciated :) [link] [comments] |
iPad Pro 12.9" - 2017 vs. 2018? Posted: 01 Jul 2018 12:10 PM PDT Looking to get an iPad Pro as a gift to replace sheet music for a multi-instrumentalist. Any significant difference between a 2017 refurb and a new 2018? I'm looking at a few hundred dollars savings directly through Apple. Not sure if there's anything she'd be missing out on with the 2017 refurb model. [link] [comments] |
Should I get a new battery for my iPad 2? Posted: 01 Jul 2018 01:13 PM PDT I've bought a second hand iPad on eBay. The device works as expected and fulfills my very limited needs. However, I have some worries concerning the battery. More to the point, I worry it might be damaged and thus dangerous. It got delivered in a state of deep discharge (which, as i understand it increases the likelihood of an "explosion"). Furthermore, it has quite a few scratches on the display and back. I assume that it must have been dropped a couple of times. This, again, probably affected the health of the battery negatively. Now I wonder whether I should get the battery replaced or stop worrying. [link] [comments] |
iPad 9.7" + Adonit Pixel troubleshooting Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:40 PM PDT I bought an Adonit Pixel to use with my 2017 iPad (not an iPad Pro), which I originally bought primarily for drawing and handwritten note taking. It seemed to work ok at first, but has recently been really difficult to use. I use it with Goodnotes and Autodesk Sketchbook, and recently it hasn't been drawing or writing at all. It seems to pair normally, and occasionally in Goodnotes I can use it as a regular stylus to turn pages or tap icons. But it literally just won't write or draw in either app, unless I unpair it, which makes the text chunky and horrible and offers very little nuance when drawing. Very very occasionally, I can write or draw when paired, but only when the pen is held at a very specific angle (and it never seems to work twice) and the line is always quite offset from where the stylus actually lands, meaning I have very little control over my lines. Anyone have any advice? Adonit website has not listed any issues like this, and I haven't found info on the web of anyone else having similar troubles. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jul 2018 12:57 PM PDT I am looking to get an ipad and pencil to help with my research. I would mainly use it for reading and annotating pdfs of scientific papers, taking notes, as an electronic lab notebook, and as a powerpoint/keynote presenter. I was wondering if the 9.7" screen on the 2018 ipad is large enough to read journal papers, or if the 10.5" screen is significantly better for this? For example a paper like this one. I think the 12" ipad is too bulky for my needs and the other differences between 9.7 and 10.5 ipads is relatively small for my needs. Another question, what is the best and easiest way to quickly transfer images to the ipad? If I am going to use it as a lab notebook I would like to add images from a shared microscope/gel imager which can save to a usb stick. Is there anything out there for quickly transferring from usb to ipad? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jul 2018 04:09 AM PDT Hey y'all, I'm on IOS 11.4 and I would say about three times a day, my iPad just turns itself off. Typically it happens while it is in standby with the smart cover closed, I open it up, and it's simply off and I have to hard reset it. Is anyone else having this same issue? Any solutions? Should I buy the iPad Pro2017 and MacBook Pro 2017 at this point of time or wait? Posted: 01 Jul 2018 01:05 AM PDT I am a digital artist and also a full time student, so I will be needing these devices somehow. I am still using PC and a Wacom for years and it's time to switch. Should I buy those models at this point of time or should I save and wait for a newer model as rumoured it'll come round Sep/Oct? Thanks guys [link] [comments] |
Any good animation apps for iPad Pro? Tweening/symbol support? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 04:28 PM PDT I'm thinking of starting a YouTube channel doing stuff like JaidenAnimations or Odd1sout, and was wondering if there was any good animation apps for the iPad Pro? Something with symbol support or tweening at least. From what I've seen all the apps are like 100% handdrawn with meh brushes or interfaces. Can't seem to find anything that's really good? Question about high WiFi usage on iPad Posted: 30 Jun 2018 03:42 PM PDT Hey guys, just bought my new iPad pro yesterday and I love it....apart from 1. Thing. My only choice of internet, is hotspot my phone to it, but I'm limited on how much data I use. The iPad is downloading(or uploading?) Something at 20MB/s, and it's chewing up my data within 10min. I've turned off iCloud drive, background app refresh, and a few other settings and not a bit of difference... I've updated it to iOS 11.4, so it doesn't have to look for updates anytime soon. I don't wanna sell it already because I can't use it to it's potential. Any advice welcome. New to iOS, I'm a noob, I know :D Cheers [link] [comments] |
