The workflow is so good that I've gone completely paperless for all my courses! My concern is the glass screen protector will create an additional amount of GAP since it's a few mm thick. Do you notice any difference, worst or not much of a difference? I've looked at a few, but either I can't find the function or it doesn't exist. Even Evernote and Onenote do not seem to have any decent find and replace system. Basically, as I and some collaborators write notes and brainstorm the world, setting and characters of this book, I want to be able to update all the notes on the fly to reflect the changes such as changing the name of a city or protagonist across all the notes. | TIL: You can do the keyboard-turns-into-a-trackpad on iPad by tapping and holding on the spacebar Posted: 25 Jul 2018 04:25 PM PDT So on iPhones with 3D Touch, you can 3D Touch the keyboard and it grays out and lets you move your finger around to move the cursor, like a trackpad I just figured this feature was missing from iPad because there's no force touch or 3D Touch but I just realized you can tap and hold the space bar and get the same effect [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 26 Jul 2018 08:41 AM PDT I'm teaching a class starting next Monday that will last for three weeks. The room is not ideal. It has two super small whiteboards, but does have a projector hooked up to a PC. I was thinking that I could mirror my iPad with the PC and use an app like GoodNotes to write up the notes on my iPad and project them. Since this is only a three week course, I didn't really want to spend any money buying some software. The computer is a school computer and it's doubtful they'll let me do anything crazy (i.e. bypass the firewall). Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 25 Jul 2018 07:38 PM PDT My school put a MDM and I wanted to get rid of it, I restored it with Itunes (got no backup) and the "Hello" screen popped up, the guided access basicly. It tells me to either: Restore from iCloud Backup, restore from iTunes Backup (which we'll ignore, because I have no backups on it), set up as new ipad or move Data from Android (only shows up if I don't put a Wi-Fi). The first option makes me put my ID, and sends a verification code to my phone, says "Updating iCloud settings..." and loads for a while and shows the backups (I also none on iCloud either), and a "set up as a new iPad" button and "Restore From iTunes". The "set up as new iPad" option shows the "Remote Management", tells me to put my Apple ID and says it's wrong, which does not happen in the iCloud backup option thing. I've read that if I let the battery die and then put it into recovery mode with ReIBoot that screen dissappears. Then I could backup the system and erase the MDM with iBackupBot. ¿How do I get out of the screen? [link] [comments]  |
| Lightning Splitter for iPad Pro Posted: 25 Jul 2018 11:04 PM PDT I really want to use my iPad Pro 10.5 as a second monitor. My plan is to use Duet Display to connect my iPad to my MacBook using a USB-C to Lightning cable. However, since I will be using the iPad pretty much all day at work with the display on, I expect it to run out of battery. I like the idea of using a Lightning splitter to have both cables connected at the same time, one to my MacBook and one for power. I saw these adapters on Amazon but they are marketed to be used to separate audio and power. Does anybody know if they would work for what I want to do? [link] [comments]  |

| iPad (2018) for school (CS-related program) when I already have a Surface Pro 3? Posted: 25 Jul 2018 05:48 PM PDT So I have the opportunity to get a new iPad 2018 for a really good deal ($15 CAD x 14 months!), so I've been considering getting it + an Apple Pencil to replace my Surface Pro 3. One of the big draws of these devices is taking handwritten notes in classes, and while the SP3 is pretty good at that, you ARE essentially limited to using OneNote for that purpose, and plus it just really doesn't work all that well as a tablet... My only concern is that since I am going to university for a BSc in Bioinformatics, which has a mix of biochemistry and computer science classes, it might be better to keep around an actual laptop that runs Windows? (instead of selling the Surface) To be honest though I might just end up keeping both the Surface and the iPad, since I really like the iPad just as an entertainment tablet, which the Surface can't really match. It's also important to mention that I do have a quite powerful desktop PC at home, so this is only for school and outside. So what do you guys think? Anyone in a similar situation?
