    FORTRAN 90 Editor/Compuler

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 09:57 AM PDT

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good text editor which supports FORTRAN 90 syntax?

Or even better, an app which actually compiles .f90 flies and executes them. Though I have less hope about this haha...

How is Affinity Designer on the 2018 iPad?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 01:00 AM PDT

Hey guys! I'm trying to learn a little bit more about illustrations and I was thinking of doing it on my iPad so I was wondering, will it lag a lot on my 2018 iPad? How are your experiences with AD and the iPad?

My handwriting with the apple pencil looks awful.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 01:44 PM PDT

I'm going back to school in the fall and have been planning to get an iPad and go paperless. Note taking is pretty important for my learning process. I have good handwriting, and the satisfaction of creating beautiful notes motivates me to keep at it.

I went to an apple store today to test drive the apple pencil and try different sizes of ipad. My writing looked awful in the demo Goodnotes app. I played with it for a while but could not write neatly even when I went extremely slow. I am guessing it was due to the slippery feeling, which seems to be a common issue.

Is this a learning curve type thing? Will practice and a matte screen protector be enough to get me writing well despite poor initial results?

Ipad pro with Apple Pencil; feasible for creating educational content?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 11:26 AM PDT

    Hey there,

I've been contemplating the Ipad 9.7 with Apple Pencil support and wanted some feedback. I'll describe the two things I am hoping to do, and if you could tell me how easily this works, or if it at all for the Ipad, that would be great!

    1) I am hoping to create easily printable writing handouts at least. I need to be able to draw and copy paste simple figures that carry grammar and critical thinking concepts a long. Think of it like School House Rocks, but except much more simple and not a video.

    2) I am thinking of a creating a set of educational videos on youtube centered on learning and interviewing people concerning different, "existential topics." To do this, I would need to do one or both of the following:

    a) Read through a kindle book and make annotations while speaking into some type of recording device. Think of it sort of like Khan academy, except I have the block of text in front of me as I'm interacting with it.

    b) Being able to do a video interview with a certain "expert," while recording it for youtube. But then, I would supplement the video interview with some type of graphic organizer of the person's thoughts. The idea here is to offer an audience to learn more about a favorite author, and then be provided with notes to facilitate their own learning and comprehension.

Anyways, this about sums up what I am hoping to do. Since my budget for a product like this is more "fun money," I am more interested in the Ipad product. I appreciate your feedback in advance, thanks!

Anyone replaced UX / UI Design With Sketch With Affinity Designer For the iPad & Mac?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 08:47 AM PDT

Has anyone replaced UX / UI Design With Sketch With Affinity Designer For the iPad & Mac? Mostly mobile / web UX and UI design. I like the artboard to artboard style layout of Sketch, and also its intuitive UI. However not having an iPad version sucks, and am tired of their pay structure.

Anyone make the switch and is happy with it?

Nursing students/Med students using an Ipad for class/clinicals.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 08:57 AM PDT

2nd year nursing student here. After my first year and having a ton of physical paperwork that will be hard to reference at a later time I'd like to go digital. At the moment the Ipad would only be used for lecture for note taking, but it is very possible at a later date I will be using it for clinicals. Most of our lecture are off of PPT/Word docs, but we also have assignments online. I would like to be able to take hand written notes on the PPTs and print them out with my hand written notes still showing. Right now I think a Pro 10.5" would be sufficient, but maybe the pro is way more than what I'll need? I also intend to use whatever I purchase as a media platform since I am always on the go between school, hospitals, and my job as an EMT.

For any nursing/med students, can you share your experiences using an Ipad/Ipad pro and which size platform you have found to be adequate?

Anyone ever mount an ipad in a car to use a head unit?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2018 12:09 PM PDT

Curious how possible it is, and how well it works. The new 9.7 inch ipads are cheap enough that doing so wouldn't cost a ton. Only real functionality I need is maps and music, so other apps/things like texting and such wouldn't matter. I have an 05 jeep grand cherokee if it matters.

    Ipad 2018 acting up

    Posted: 30 Jul 2018 09:48 PM PDT

Purchased the 2018 IPad a month ago and while using goodnotes the app will suddenly stop and will get a blackscreen with the loading circle rotating. After that it will take me to the lockscreen asking to put in my code or fingerprint.

Also recently the Ipad itself will freeze and the screen and home button will be unresponsive causing me to force shutdown and restart my Ipad.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Should I get the 10.5 pro now, or wait until September when the new “bezel-less” iPads are announced...and hope for a price drop on the 10.5? What would the price drop be, if anything?

    iPad 2018 longevity

    Posted: 30 Jul 2018 03:51 PM PDT

How long do you think the new iPad will get updates?

Since it basically already has a 2 year old chipset and iPhones usually are supported 4 to 5 years, will it get "only" 2 to 3 year updates?

Distraction-less, fit to width PDF viewer?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2018 07:18 PM PDT

I have a new iPad that I have been using a lot lately. One thing I am finding myself doing is having a PDF open in iBooks on the right of the screen and Notability on the left.

However iBooks will zoom out from the width I had the page set at when I turn pages, and it lacks continuous scrolling. Are there any better apps out there that would give me what I'm looking for?

Made an impulse purchase on eBay -- is this as good a deal as I think?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2018 03:16 PM PDT

I've been looking to buy an iPad for a little while, mostly for note taking in school. I went to the Apple Store to try them out, and while the iPad Pro was sooo nice and smooth, I couldn't really justify the price, plus the pencil, plus cover, considering I was only planning to use it for notes.
On Apple's website, with my student discount, I had the 2018 iPad, Apple Pencil, and smart cover in my cart and the total was $636 CAD ($488 USD).
I thought about eBay and found a new listing by a user (with 100% feedback) selling a gently used, "like new" iPad Pro 10.5 - 64gb Wifi with Apple Pencil AND Smart Keyboard for $879 CAD ($674 USD). Seems like a pretty crazy deal. Plenty of clear photos, I looked up the serial number to make sure it wasn't blacklisted, etc. There were other users watching the listing and making offers so I just went for it and bought it.
Is this a good deal? I know the new iPad Pros are coming out soon but I don't care about having the latest one, so I'm not worried about that. Anyway I just want some reassurance that I didn't act too hastily.

Best FTP app for iPad? (Similar to FireZilla)

    Posted: 30 Jul 2018 02:40 PM PDT

The last time this was asked was just over a year ago, so looking for an update to the question.

Looking for a full-featured FTP app to transfer video files to/from my remote server. (Similar to FireZilla on my laptop)

Completely willing to pay for a good app.

Looking for someone who has experience using one, especially video and photo editors.
