Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend? - July 23, 2018

    Posted: 22 Jul 2018 09:12 PM PDT

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

Looking for a great RPG with turn-based fighting

    Posted: 23 Jul 2018 05:14 AM PDT

I just picked up Octopath on the switch and I am hooked to the gameplay style. Is there anything great on iOS that has turn based fighting?

What is a massive time sink of an iPhone game I can lose my life into?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2018 02:00 PM PDT

I will have an insane amount of free time that I want to dump into a highly consumable IOS game. I'm not sure which way to go.

I was looking at Vainglory and that is going to be one option but I was hoping to find others. Are there any quality MMO's for IOS? (That aren't awful) The only one I've seen that looked interesting so far is Durango. But that was a while ago. I have no idea how that game is otherwise.

I was also considering clash royale however to jump into it competitively requires a grotesque amount of money. I'm all for paying for games, but not three figures plus for one.

There used to be a final fantasy game where you drew cards and attacked based on card combos or something....had some crazy graphics. I enjoyed that but if memory serves it was brutally pay-to-win. (Again, I don't mind paying for a game, but lets be reasonable.)

Also, a large part of my gaming will be done over data, not wifi. My plan is a 14GB plan. One thing that was nice about Clash Royale (and to a lesser extent hearthstone) is that they were very friendly data wise.

With that said however, the timesink game doesn't have to be a competitive online game. If its' some skyrim-esque sprawling 200 hour rpg epic that's fine too. I don't care. But the preference is with something online and with a competitive community behind it. (Can SKyrim just come out on IOS already please?)

Thanks so much for your ideas!

    lf idle / strat/ rpg

    Posted: 23 Jul 2018 05:57 AM PDT

hello, I'm looking for a game that 1. does not need the whole day attention, so where my phone does not have to run 24/7 for progress, like farming and do dailys or just come in ever 3h for ex and do your stuff^ 2. not too much p2w, mby events with a few $ but not too much. 3. be able to start with other people together at the same time. (new server)

No shooting games like PUBG, fortnite etc. and nothing like Ark survival

Played a lot of Idle Heros (p2w problem), Tab Titans 2 (boring after a long time and 24/7 on the phone), endless frontier (almost 24/7 on the phone), shakes & fidget (p2p). Mby a game with a clan and / or some base building :) I know it's difficult with me^ thx for help :)

How often do you buy games, and what's your price range/budget?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2018 06:25 AM PDT

I'm making a game called Card Crusade with my brother that I've mentioned here a couple times before. It's a rogue-lite deck building game with tons of cards and multiple classes.

As far as making money, we were originally thinking of going the IAP route with rewarded video ads and pay X gems to unlock new cards or classes.

But that just seems like a whole lot of work to add all that in. So now we're thinking about just slapping a $2.99 price tag on it and calling it good.

    Best word games?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2018 03:48 PM PDT

Currently I'm playing Crosswords with Friends, BAIKOH, and Fight List

Kind of feel like I've played all the good ones, and anything new is just a copy of wordscapes, which I don't enjoy at all. Any recs would be greatly appreciated!

What are the best soccer games on the App Store, free or paid?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2018 08:01 PM PDT

The only soccer apps I've played are the FIFA ones, which I've stopped playing ever since FIFA 16 came out. Recently I've been really wanting to play another one. So what are the best ones out there that you guys recommend?

We love Heartstone. It would be good if it's cross platform.

What are some of the absolutely biggest timesink games available for iPhone?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2018 01:37 PM PDT

I have a grotesque amount of free time where I can basically live on an iPhone X - so I want to adopt a game and dominate every inch of it.

I know there's a range of genres, but I'm not too stuck on something specific.

I know there's a couple MMO's but I'm not sure how good they are. IF there is a "defacto" mmo to play, I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise, I know Vainglory is also mega huge. I'm going to look into that too.

Another option I've considered is Clash Royale. It's obscenely expensive to enter the competitive scene so I'm not sure if I should even bother. (I did enjoy the game casually about a year ago.)

Any ideas? If there is a competitive edge to it somehow that's a bonus.

    Thanks!

    Supercat 2 is just...wonderful.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2018 01:40 PM PDT

It has a tele tubby like childhood innocence to it, with the futuristic music that sounds like a gifted child listened to massage room tranquil music and tried to imitate it.

Like the Teletubbies does with falling, getting hurt and daily toddler naughtiness, it makes many bad things you naturally anticipate from older intense 2d platformers (Megaman, Donkey Kong, or samurai Jack) and turns those bad things into an innocent 'WHOOPSIES!'

In summary, it had the engagement level of many classic platformers, but perfects art of saying 'Chill, it's just a game.'
