Posted: 24 Jul 2018 05:54 PM PDT Just picked up a refurbed LG 4K Ultrafine on Amazon. Love this monitor. Great picture, contrast, color accuracy. However, every 10-15 minutes, there will be a white flash across the middle third of the screen. It's very distracting. I've updated the firmware, I've tried several USB cables, and even two different Macbooks. I'm currently using the latest MacBook pro. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a problem with this display? I've already talked to Amazon and they are happy to refund it, but man, I really don't want to send this back. I checked with the third party seller, and they don't have any more right now and said it might be a while. Kinda bummed. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a replacement battery for a 15 inch early 2011 Macbook Pro... Any suggestions? Posted: 24 Jul 2018 08:41 PM PDT After contacting Apple, it seems my only option of getting a battery directly from them is driving 200 miles or sending my computer in by mail. I don't really have the margin to do either of those things right now because I need my computer for work and don't have the time to take a long trip. Are there any other batteries I could purchase that would be recommended by you all? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2018 08:12 PM PDT As the title says I want to try restoring again because not all of my images were restored last time I did a backup, but at the same time I don't want to lose all my other data over the past 3 weeks by restoring to that date. [link] [comments] |
powerlogd using disk on MacOS High Sierra. Posted: 24 Jul 2018 07:22 PM PDT I have a mid-2010 Unibody Macbook running High Sierra 10.13.6. For the past few days, the root process powerlogd has been running on boot, non-stop, using my disk. It writes a few gigabytes worth on my disk in less than 10 minutes. I don't know why it started running, and how to make it stop. Man pages says that: NAME powerlogd -- manages structured log archives that enable retrieval of system power and performance data. DESCRIPTION The powerlogd daemon works only within the context of a launchd job and should not be run from the command line. Any help on how to stop this process from running would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2018 06:46 PM PDT So far I have deleted cache and temp files for chrome, cleaned up the ram, disk doctored, restarted the machine, restarted the router and modem. Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2018 06:42 PM PDT So, I've got an iPhone 5s, and for the second time now while I'm listening to music in headphones, my music gets interrupted by a strange chime, like your regular alert chime. And it shows up in the pull up menu as if I'm listening to a sound file off some random website - this time it was something like "boozytechstuff.web/webcam/alert.mp3" (I stupidly didn't take a screenshot, so the link is probably not 100% correct). Last time a couple of months ago it was a website ending in ".data". Both times I googled the handle and didn't come up with anything. This is kind of creepy, and I just wanted to know if it's happened to anyone else and what this might be? I'm thinking an app I use must have access to play it, but hell if I know how to find out which one and disable it. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2018 06:34 PM PDT When I go to my setting and check my storage it says that I have 9.7 gifs of other data. Now when i plug it into my Mac it goes down and I have 5 gigs of free space. Is this a glitch and how do I fix this? [link] [comments] |
Rollback from Mac OS Mojave beta to High Sierra Posted: 24 Jul 2018 09:48 PM PDT My friend installed the Mac OS Mojave Beta on his 13 inch 2016 Macbook Pro without touchbar. He did not create a time machine backup prior to doing this and then could not figure out how to rollback to high sierra. He called customer support for help and they asked him to enter internet recovery mode, from there they instructed him to enter disk utilities and do some partitioning, then they instructed him to enter install Mac OS. He continued and then the call unexpectedly ended and he did not want to call back customer service so he followed through with installing sierra and tried installing it with both Mac HD and Macintosh HD which both failed. After that he decide to forget about it and just try to boot back into the Mac OS Mojave update and was unable to and was greeted only with an access denied symbol. What should he do? Adding an Admin account with no Admin Posted: 24 Jul 2018 05:55 PM PDT Kind of messed up somehow. I recently got a MacBook Air and was trying to change my name from "user" to something else. Along the way, I changed my account to a Standard account (real smooth, u/atarixe..). Anyway, I know the password and everything for this account, I was just wondering if there was a way to add an admin account if you're a standard account, or do I just need to reset my Air? Thanks! e: If I can change my account to an Admin without creating an Admin account that would work (better) too. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2018 05:12 PM PDT I can only play songs on Apple music when I have no internet. When I hav wifi or cell service all songs refuse to play. This happened after I came back from a foreign country with no cell service for 10 days. Without connection I can listen to any of my songs with no problems. When I try to play a song while connected it just immediately pauses. I've killed the app and restarted the phone multiple times. Any solution besides completely deleting the app and downloading all my songs again? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro 2015 no longer using all four cores... Posted: 24 Jul 2018 08:30 AM PDT I wanted to see if anyone on here would have any input. I have an excellent (for most purposes) 2015 Macbook Pro (it was maxed out capabilites on all fronts when I got it) - 1 Terabyte SSD, 4 cores, 16 GB RAM, the works. I do a lot of audio editing, and I notice Logic Pro X is only using THREE cores at the max when monitioring CPU meters, completely ignoring my fourth. This is leading lots of projects to overload the CPU and if you know what happens in Logic Pro X, it keeps stopping the audio to save the processors. This has resulted in me wasting precious time rolling back plug-ins, trying desperately to bounce tracks in place to save CPU on projects that never needed that previously. I am quite frankly pretty pissed off that I paid good money for that 4th core and Apple just seems to ignore it. Does anybody have any idea what's going on? My OS is MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 btw thanks! External HDD space available reporting incorrectly Posted: 24 Jul 2018 03:43 PM PDT Hi, I have a 6 TB Seagate external drive connected to my computer. macOS 10.13.6 Finder and Disk Utility is telling me it has 4.55 TB (6.42 GB purgeable) available/Used 1.46 TB, which is impossible considering I have one folder which is reported having 4.72 TB of data in it (this is accurate), amongst other folders (that aren't as large but still up to 400 GB). How can I force macOS to reindex this drive or do something to report the correct space. I'm worried I will keep adding files to it and it will fill somehow with macOS not realizing and mess up the drive/its contents (if this is possible). Please let me know what I can do, thanks. New IPhone X not receiving certain calls and texts Posted: 24 Jul 2018 03:40 PM PDT I had an iPhone 6 and upgraded to an iPhone X a few weeks ago. I noticed I wasn't getting messages in a group text from the people that don't have iPhones and someone who has a pretty old iPhone as well. I'm also not receiving incoming calls. I can make calls and texts out to everyone. Those whose messages I can't see, can see my messages. I tried all the tricks listed online: turning on/off, hard reset, reset network settings, wiping and restoring the phone from back up. I took it in the apple store and they thought it may be because my old phone was still reviewing messages. They had me wipe the iPhone 6. But the problem isn't fixed at all. They mentioned restoring it as a new phone. I'd really like to avoid that, it sounds like a pain in the ass. Any thoughts? Should I call my carrier? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Can't Activate iMessage on Mac Posted: 24 Jul 2018 03:24 PM PDT So my sister got the iPhone 8 Plus and a Macbook Pro 2017 13'', and she made a new Apple ID and is able to use iMessage fine on her iPhone. However, when I try to set up iMessage on her Mac with the same Apple ID, it keeps giving me an error and asking me to try again. I've tried everything from re-setting the SMC and NVRAM to deleting files from Keychain Access to enabling messages in iCloud across both devices. But the error keeps popping up. It is driving me crazy, when I got my Mac and iPhone it was so seamless and easy. I am not sure why I am having such a hard time now. Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
iPhone X potential problems using a magnetic car holder? Posted: 24 Jul 2018 01:11 PM PDT So I would like to get informed about the iPhone X and magnetic car mounts. As of what I know and read online, magnetic cases used together with a wireless charger would screw up the battery of the phone and overheat due to the magnet and the charger interfering with each other. Is this always the case? Should I leave magnetic car mounts for what they are all together or could I still use them and charge up my phone with cable then? [link] [comments] |
[Help] avconvert: failed to create an Export Session. Check setup. Posted: 24 Jul 2018 03:18 PM PDT i spent hours looking for info on this issue. most forums are old and i can't find anything that is specific to fix the issue. Specs: OS X El Capitan ver. 10.11.16 (MBP 2011) when i right click a video/audio file trying to use the "Encode Selected Video Files" to convert i get this error: avconvert: failed to create an Export Session. Check setup. i have found some posts/forums but they aren't very specific or they speak of a adobe program. my MBP is up to date and the only program i've added recently (month and a half?) was Parallels (v13). i used this feature a month or two ago and no issue. any help would be appreciated. (i have reset the mac and the error still happened.) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2018 02:51 PM PDT I was trying to change the volume of the speakers on my MacBook Pro, and because of the TouchBar, I accidentally pressed the max volume. Later, I played a video that goes through the sound spectrum and while skipping through it makes a pop sound. How do I tell if I damaged the speaker? [link] [comments] |
Please help interpreting EtreCheck report for mid2010 MBP running High Sierra Posted: 24 Jul 2018 02:47 PM PDT I had a scare for a possible hack--likely not a hack of my machine, but that someone got my password from some 3rd party hack (e.g. myspace or Uber) but, because I'm dumb, that password was also still my mac login password on the admin account. My hard disk is beyond repair according to Disk Utility Posted: 24 Jul 2018 11:24 AM PDT Hi, I have a 2011 MacBook Pro 13" with a i5 processor and 8gb of ram. Today I left my Mac on standby, took a nap and when I got back I had the blank screen with the folder and ?. I started the Mac pressing CMD + r, when I got to the disk utility it said that my hard disk cannot be repaired. My question is: should I change the hard disk and reinstall Mac os or it time to change Mac? Edit: so as I was advised I will change the hard disk with a SSD. Thank you so much all of you for the support ;) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2018 04:47 PM PDT I have my internal iMac SSS partitioned into 2 partitions. The first partition is stable macOS High Sierra on the latest public version. The second partition is the Developer Beta of macOS Mojave. Both partitions boot perfectly fine. The macOS High Sierra partition also updates just fine. The Mojave partition, though, will not update. I just boot into an Apple logo screen and nothing happens. I've let it sit for around 10 minutes. There's no progress bar. If I hold option at boot to see my boot disks, I see macOS Installer, macOS, and macOS Beta. Even if I manually boot into macOS Installer, it still gets stuck. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
iPhone X doesn't turn on after update Posted: 24 Jul 2018 12:25 PM PDT Today, I've tried updating my iPhone X just before the lunch. I left my phone to update and went to have some lunch. When I got back my iPhone was on restart loop (after Apple logo it just turns off and turns on back again). I've tried restoring & updating via iTunes but it just says: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4013)." https://i.imgur.com/e7RYjVa.png The real problem is, I have dropped my iPhone a few months ago while on holidays and the back glass cracked a bit. So I've tried using my warranty with Authorized Apple Dealer but they said that they cannot take it because it has physical damage. What are my options? What can I do? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2018 12:22 PM PDT Hello r/applehelp, I have used not used my macbook for a while and before I put it away I think I changed something concerning my AirPlay in Terminal. Back then I used to stream all my audio through my Sonos Speaker via AirPlay, I remember that I did it with via Terminal with some commands I got out of a tutorial but I can't seem to find neither the tutorial nor any notes with the command lines changing everything to normal. My Question now is, is anyone familiar with the command lines to either redo or reset the AirPlay settings completely? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Can macbooks die to condensation. Posted: 24 Jul 2018 08:57 AM PDT Hi i have had this (i think Dead) macbook for quite a few months now and im wondering if anyone has experience anything like this. about 7 months ago i left for work but i left my 2013 13in mbp on top of my bed. what i forgot was i had put it on top of my towel before i left. so i return 9 hours later to a really cold bedroom and i attempt to open up my macbook. doesn't wake up so i put the charger in but still nothing beside's a charging led. I then picked it up and realised it was slightly moist at the bottom(condensation on the bottom of the chassis) and it was really damn cold to the touch. i panicked and placed it near a radiator for a couple days. i try it again and nothing. at this point i knew i fucked up. fast forward to now and i have tried it every couple months or so to see if there is any difference but sadly my little MB is dead. i have also tried resetting all the pmmc things (cant remember what they are called) tried booting with no battery. tried booting with no screen or battery. and iv cleaned the motherboard with isopropl alcohol hoping to find residue but i think i just cleaned off dusk tbh. anyone else had an issue like this?
