PSA: When Installing macOS Betas, you can use an APFS Volume and easily revert to a stable build Posted: 18 Jun 2018 12:36 PM PDT I see a bunch of downgrade questions, since APFS was added to macOS it's very easy to add a second boot partition for testing and development or just checking out the new features.
Boom you've got a place to try out the latest hotness. My Mojave Beta Volume is about 40GB. [link] [comments]
Which text shortcut app do you use? Posted: 18 Jun 2018 09:00 PM PDT Just wondering which text shortcut app Mac redditors are using and why. Found myself typing a lot of repetitive text fragments and want to optimize it a bit. Any feedback is appreciated. [link] [comments]
Mac OS X 10.13.5 will not shutdown or restart. Posted: 18 Jun 2018 10:17 PM PDT After running the latest update, my Mac (2014 mini) tried to restart, but got stuck on a black screen with a visible (and responsive) cursor. I hard shut down by holding the power button and started it up cold again. This repeats every time I try to shut down or reboot. Things I tried: leaving it on the black screen overnight (to see if it would work itself out). Resetting the SMC. Resetting the PRAM. Restarting from the recovery partition and running disk first aid. Restarting from the recovery partition and reinstalling macOS. Logging in to a different user account… The only thing I can think of that I haven't tried yet is wiping the drive and restoring from a backup. Any other ideas? [link] [comments]
I just had something happen I have never seen before Posted: 18 Jun 2018 08:26 PM PDT and I have been using Macs for a LONG time... Here I sit just surfing the net and listening to my favorite jams when a pop up comes up and says "opening basesystem.dmg" and then it goes away. I found this post here, archived or I would have added to it. https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/749kbf/apparently_random_opening_basesystemdmg_dialog/ I do not have any MacOS installers on my drives anywhere. The only thing going on is an encryption of my Time Machine drive. Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6 beta 3 [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 08:00 PM PDT I posted this on r/macbook recently and got zero replies, so I'm hoping you guys can help. I've been up and down google trying to work this out, because High Sierra's battery use when asleep is disgusting. Even after scouring through power saving options, limiting location services and iCloud, and always turning off wifi and bluetooth before closing the lid, it still chews a good 20% battery overnight. I disabled hibernate mode because it crashed my Mac every time on wake up. I've also tried to get rid of power nap when unplugged. I do not care for my Mac to be managing my life when I need it to be conserving its battery. I've fiddled a little using the terminal and guides online, but I am code illiterate and best to assume I have no idea what I'm doing. These are the pmset -g values from terminal: When plugged in: Battery Not sure if disksleep, ttyskeepawake or the current sleep value are reflecting my best options here? If not, what can I change them to (and how do I do it)? [link] [comments]
Strange MBP behaviour with disk space and battery Posted: 18 Jun 2018 11:18 PM PDT Over the last week or so I've noticed a couple of strange things happening on my MBP. Its a Mid 2014 Retina 13" 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM and its on 10.13.5 Firstly - it doesn't seem to be going to sleep properly - either closing the lid or manually selecting sleep from the Apple menu - often the battery will have completely drained or close to drained overnight. Secondly - The amount of available disk space has been fluctuating massively - it should have around 70GB free, which it is showing now, but over the weekend it was showing as low as 44GB and something appeared to be using space. I used Disk Daisy but could spot anything that accounted for it. This morning, its back to 70GB which is where it should be. Only thing I installed recently is Adobe CC, but those apps don't account for the missing space, and also, its back to normal now. I just ran a Malwarebytes scan, and its come back clean as usual. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
Is there really no way to see the usage of my icloud drive? Posted: 18 Jun 2018 05:17 PM PDT In iOS, it's a simple bar you can see 500GB/1TB used etc. In macOS I can't find this at all? [link] [comments]

Need to downgrade because virtualbox is incompatible. Can I use cmd-opt-r? Posted: 18 Jun 2018 12:03 PM PDT Unfortunately, I have to have virtualbox for vagrant for work. :-P Beware everyone. Everything I care about is either on github or on icloud. Can I just restart holding cmd-opt-r to get high sierra back? [link] [comments]
How do I uninstall Adobe completely? Posted: 18 Jun 2018 03:01 PM PDT I have uninstalled Adobe CC and some of the programs still appear in my activity monitor. How do I uninstall them or stop them from launching? [link] [comments]
Easiest Way to Downgrade to El Capitan from High Sierra Posted: 18 Jun 2018 08:56 AM PDT Hi Everyone, I run a movie making camp for kids using I-Movie. My students use 10.0.9 and I installed it on High Sierra and it keeps crashing. It works perfectly on El Capitan. All of my computers I have use El Capitan and is working great. I need to downgrade the four computers that updated to High Sierra to El Capitan. What is the easiest way to do that? We don't have a copy of El Capitan. Upgrading to the new I-Movie is not an option unfortunately. Can I make a backup of one of my El Capitan computers and put it on the high sierra's? Thanks so much in advance! [link] [comments] |
