Posted: 30 Jun 2018 05:15 PM PDT Woke up this morning and macbook wouldn't turn on. Took it to genius bar and said it would cost 475 dollars to figure out what's wrong with it and fix it. What would you suggest I do? The laptop is about 3 years old. Thanks for any suggestions [link] [comments] |
Late 2011 macbook screwed up by recent High Sierra Update Posted: 30 Jun 2018 05:09 PM PDT My Macbook Pro has tried for several months now to update and always failed and went back to the desktop. Now, just recently, It tried again to install the update and instead said something like "recovery media could not be found" and I could no longer get to the desktop. I've tried a couple things to get the laptop to boot back up, but nothing. I've gone so far as to use the Internet recovery method to completely wipe the drive, but reinstalling the High Sierra OS says "request Timed Out" after a couple hours, when it gets stuck on "2 minutes remaining" for half an hour or so. If the Internet Recovery tool can't save me, what can I do? I have a windows machine but I can't download High Sierra to it to write it to a bootable USB. [link] [comments] |
How do I restore iPhone backup location from external hard drive back to internal Mac drive? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 02:23 PM PDT I don't have enough space on my computer to backup my iphone onto it so I decided to see if I could back it up directly to my new external hard drive. I followed the steps on this website but now I keep getting a notification when I try to backup my phone that says "iTunes could not backup your iPhone because the backup was corrupt." So now I'm stuck with my phone not being able to backup anywhere at all. Somebody please help [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 11:46 AM PDT I have this old 2010 Mac mini and I want to upgrade the ram. I found this 16gb kit on eBay and I was wondering if it will work and if it is a scam. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:58 PM PDT sierra 10.12.6, pro 13 inch, 251gb flash storage 2 days ago, I deleted Bluestacks on my mac because the storage said it got to 16gb of free storage. then the storage became at about 40gb free storage. Yesterday, I reinstalled bluestacks, and after downloading a few apps and using them for a while, my storage is only at 20gb free storage. the bluestacks app itself is merely 300mb, and users -> (my account) -> library -> bluestacks folder is only 2.34gb. so there's certainly a huge chunk of storage that's gone over my head over the last few days. in addition, the fan has been continuously rolling for hours in the past day regardless of using bluestacks or not. I went to the manage storage section, but all it showed me were large "files" (videos mostly), not large folders that could contain a gazillion different files that combine to account for my lost storage. so my question is, how can I figure out what folders are causing the storage/overheat problem when all I can look through in the "manage storage" section are large files? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 06:11 PM PDT I dabble in some minor Mac repairs, but this one is stumping me. I have my friend's 2012(ish) Macbook Pro 13 inch (A1278). Initially she was telling me that sometimes it wouldn't start up. Also the track pad was going bonkers (her words), so a paid tech unhooked the track pad. I thought that she might have had a errant battery which could also cause the wonky mouse movement. Before we did anything, I hooked back the track pad and there were no issues. However, it took me a few days to turn it on. I'd leave it plugged in and kept trying to reset the SMC, but it was only successful 1 out of 100 times. Once we had booted up, the computer told me that the battery needed to be replaced soon, so we did. However, I can't turn it on again. I keep trying to reset the SMC, unlpug, replug, SMC. Nothing is working. Charger light is orange most of the time. Sometimes it's green. Not sure what to do next. [link] [comments] |
My Mac Pro only recognizes Windows now after updating to Sierra Posted: 30 Jun 2018 05:55 PM PDT I have a 2010 Mac Pro that was my work machine before we upgraded to a 5k iMac a couple years ago. After about 6 months of owning it, I wanted to play some games that were not available on OSX so I threw in some other old drive I had laying around and installed Win10 on it. Everything worked great for a long time. Go into Windows, play games, use bootcamp and go back to OSX. However, after updating to Sierra or High Sierra, I don't remember which, the file system for OSX changed and bootcamp in Windows couldn't see OSX anymore. So I read up and was told I had to hold the Option key on boot. Sometimes this worked, sometimes it didn't (note, I would hold the option key while the computer was turned off and then turn the computer on). I think I also reset the PRAM and other **** a couple times to get things to work. Well, I'm basically STUCK in windows now. The computer will not recognize any drives that have OSX on them. Background of my hardware. The only other thing I upgraded on the Mac was a GTX 970 which worked fine between OSX and Windows. As for Hard drives, I have 5 drives. 3 regular hard drives and 2 SSD's. I'm pretty sure one of the regular hard drives is the OSX boot drive that came with the computer when I brought it home. I'm also pretty sure one of the SSD's is a drive I copied that existing boot drive onto so that I had faster speed for the OS. Anyway, today I figured I'd try to get to the bottom of this. I wanted to at LEAST be able to boot into OSX. So, I installed ONE hard drive at a time and booted up. What I got was the following. 2 regular hard drives that after the computer boots gets a grey screen (like if you normally boot into OSX, minus a logo) and then a black BIOS looking screen that says "Non bootable drive, please insert drive to continue" or something like that. 1 regular hard drive that boots to Win 10 just fine, and then an SSD that does the same as the first 2 regular drives.... grey screen, then black screen saying non bootable and then the other SSD says not bootable (I believe this 2nd SSD to be the "storage" drive for the Windows drive. At this point, I can't get the computer to recognize OSX! What the **** am I supposed to do? Any thoughts? Ideas? Let me know if anybody has any ideas or needs more info. OH, I tried this with both of my video cards, the original 1gb ATI RADEON, and the newer 4gb GTX 970. No change there. [link] [comments] |
MacBook crashed and can't backup to external hard drive. HELP PLEASE! Posted: 30 Jun 2018 03:13 PM PDT • 2009 MacBook Pro • OSX El Capitan • https://i.stack.imgur.com/hbsmE.jpg Hello Reddit! I recently came across the white screen of death and have tried First Aid and reinstalling the OSX in recovery mode with no luck in booting. Tried to backup an image of my HD to WD My Book but ran into an error: "The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.diskutility.error 3.)" even though the external has already been formatted as exFAT and journaled through Disk Utility. Is there a way to backup the image or recover select files? Appreciate your feedback ahead of time! [link] [comments] |
I get an error anytime I try to export a video? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:10 PM PDT I've tried Videopad Editor and Imovie to export a song that I made on Logic pro but I get the following error anytime I try to export: "The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)" I updated my computer a few days ago to High Sierra 10.13.5 and my theory is the update has something to do with this. Because before, everything worked perfectly fine. Any solutions? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 05:06 PM PDT Hello! On iPhone 6 iOS 11.4, if that's significant. Payment method was working fine for months, no problems. -> After a few purchases yesterday it is now being declined. Even today. I can't even update my apps anymore. Even when I switch to "None" under payment methods. I am so lost. This is extremely distressing (to me at least) -> What are my options? Balance is not the issue and I've made purchases with this card before. If it's of any significance, I have a "Pending" for a Pokemon Go in-app purchase. Could this be just a bank problem? If any other info is needed I'd be happy to supply it. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
Apple ID won't sign into iMessage or FaceTime on my new MacBook Air Posted: 30 Jun 2018 08:47 PM PDT Hi, I'm very new to apple products and have been trying to get my iMessage and FaceTime working. Every time I input my correct Apple ID and password (works when I sign into iCloud and App Store) it comes up the same error message, "An error occurred during authentication". I've read every answer on Apple's forums and they don't seem to help, this is my last resort before calling tech support. Any ideas on how I might fix this issue? [link] [comments] |

How to transfer messages from old phone to new phone? Posted: 30 Jun 2018 04:49 PM PDT I've read several guides and I'm still having trouble doing this. On the old phone, under iCloud backup, there is no option for messages- there are options for everything else (photos, mail, etc) but no "messages" option (and I have the 11.2 software, so it should be an option). Since the iCloud backup is not working I thought I'd try an iTunes one, but it won't sync my messages there. Also, I'm not sure if I can select the messages to go onto my new phone, or if it will have to take the entire iTunes backup. Please help me if you can! [link] [comments] |
Fix Iphone 6s clicking screen and home button Posted: 30 Jun 2018 12:34 PM PDT Hello, i have a problem with my iPhone 6s plus. Everything works perfectly but it still annoys me. My screen makes a clicking sound when pressing it from the middle down to the button. It fees like there is a small gap between screen and phone in which you bend the screen a little bit when clicking. The Home button also clicks noisy and seems a bit loose. This feel really destorys the high quality feel an iphone should have. It happend after i dropped my phone, somebody also suggested it might be bend and it just needs to be unbended. My idea would be to open the phone and try to tighten the screws of the home button and for the screen i would look for sth really thin to put between screen and hardware if my attempt of just bending the clip things on the side fails. What would you advise me? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:42 PM PDT Every time I attempt to connect to my WiFi it says it is incorrect even though I know it is correct. I have attempted several different things to fix this but nothing worked, i even factory reset my phone but nothing worked [link] [comments] |
2017 MacBook Pro screen flicker on Chrome Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:31 PM PDT Hi- my macbook (macOS High Sierra) will do this weird flicker multiple times a day. I already ran a hardware test, and it said everything was running properly. I also toggled the "enable hardware acceleration" setting on Chrome but the flicker still continued. I'm not quite sure if it only happens while I'm watching videos, but that's when I caught it happening last. Here is a video of the flicker along with a picture. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Can't unlock iPad, impossible to access iCloud Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:24 PM PDT Hi, I work as IT primary in PCs but recently a client sent me his son's iPad because he forgot the PIN and doesn't even know the iCloud account used in the device. The first thing I tried was to do a factory reset using iTunes but it continued to ask me the iCloud account. Is there a way to fully reset the device, even the linked account? [link] [comments] |
[iOS] Messages in iCloud only syncing 20 conversations Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:17 PM PDT Heads up: This one's a real doozie. Okay, I've been having a ton of problems ever since Apple released iOS 11.4 and I enabled Messages in iCloud, hoping to wipe my iPhone 8 and set it up as new for the first time since I got my iPhone 4S in 2011 (I know, I know... I'm crazy). It showed it was syncing my messages for a while, but the progress bar froze up, so I tried disabling and starting from scratch. I'm running macOS 10.13.5 and have it enabled there too––and I let it do its thing and download my conversations, which took quite a while (so I was hopeful haha). Well, once it stopped on my MacBook, I checked on my iPhone under Settings > iCloud > Manage Storage, and it shows Messages is taking up 6.9 GB. Tapping on Messages from there, however, it shows my Conversations are only taking up 3.7 GB––a step up from the Zero KB it had been showing me up until this point, but still confusing. Tapping on Conversations, it has only synced 20 conversations. I rarely delete conversations, so I probably have 200+ in Messages... so, where are they? And where are those other 3.2 GB Messages is supposedly taking up? Because I'm pretty sure they're not being hogged by Photos/Videos/etc.: Settings > General > iPhone Storage is showing Messages is only taking up 198.9 MB (Documents & Data). Tapping on Conversations from there (74.2 MB), it also only shows 20 conversations––most of which being anywhere from -1 byte to -21 bytes (?)––and about half of them are different conversations than the ones shown in iCloud Storage. On my MacBook––under System Preferences > iCloud > Manage..., it shows Messages is taking up 6.9 GB (same as shown on my iPhone). Yet, in Messages > Preferences... > Accounts, clicking Sync Now makes the button go gray for about 10 seconds, and then nothing. I'm heading to an Apple Store later this week to replace my MacBook battery (yay), so I'll ask about this then... but I almost always seem to find a way to stump the Geniuses (of course). So, now... my ultimate question: What the hell is going on? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments] |
Safari Extensions Gone After Apple Support Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:01 PM PDT Hi, I left my Macbook Pro fixing at the Apple Store here in Brazil, but after I got it back all my extensions from Safari were gone. I know they change some settings when they are fixing it, to run some tests, but is it normal? I very upset, because I have very tight settings and can't remember exactly the extensions and setting I had set. [link] [comments] |
Phone won’t send audio over Bluetooth Posted: 30 Jun 2018 02:53 PM PDT This is really weird. iPhone 7, fully updated software. This is happening in several apps including Spotify and Downcast. I haven't been able to use the native Music app because of an unrelated problem that AppleCare can't figure out and as a result I've just resolved to use Spotify instead. Anyway, once in a while after I use Siri my audio will start coming out of the phone instead of my Bluetooth car stereo. The car stereo still shows a connection but no longer shows up in the streaming devices options in any app. The car radio displays track info and the radio's controls operate the phone (play, pause, skip track, etc) but the audio comes out the phone speaker. It's as though the phone forgot that it was connected to an audio device. Killing the app and restarting it solves the problem sometimes but not always. Turning the car off and back on again sometimes solves the problem but not always, but this happens in the middle of long highway stretches and pulling over to reboot my car isn't always practical. Sometimes I have to reboot the phone but not the car. For the moment I've found a workable workaround in just plugging the phone into the radio with a lightning cable. This is really quite baffling. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Problems pairing watch series 0 with iPhone 8 plus on 11.4 Posted: 30 Jun 2018 02:39 PM PDT So long story short I had to restore my iPhone and when trying to pair the watch again I can't. I choose to pair it then it sends me to the camera to scan the code and after that it says "choose wrist: left - right" and I can't choose anything, both options are faded. I read that it was an iOS 11.4 bug but I'm not sure since I can't find the problem anywhere else. Is there a workaround? [link] [comments] |
Green tint on black / dark areas on macbook pro screen Posted: 30 Jun 2018 05:53 PM PDT Not sure what's wrong with my macbook screen. It's showing green stuff on dark screen. But they are perfectly fine on white / light colors. Also the green goes out on it's own after 1 hour or 2. [link] [comments] |

External Harddrive and shared device Posted: 30 Jun 2018 12:20 PM PDT I have an external connected to my Mac mini. From my MBA I access the external while i'm home in the finder window under "Shared". The problem is that 50% of the time the external harddrive doesn't show up. I'm connected to the same network and I've verified that the external is accessible and shows up on the desktop of my mac mini Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
