Posted: 21 Jun 2018 10:35 AM PDT So after being an iOS power user for 8 years and learning a lot about it, both from discovering things myself and from browsing this sub reddit, I decided to share this information with you guys, hope you find any bit of this information helpful! 3D Touch:Let's start with the basics, apart from 3D Touching any app for shortcuts, photos for peak and pop, links for a quick preview, or control centre toggles for more options, here are some more uses for it:
Home Screen
General Tips
That's it for now, I will update this thread if I remember anything or if any of you guys have a tip that you want to share. Apologies for any spelling, grammar or formatting errors, English isn't my first language. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jun 2018 12:46 PM PDT What is the point for having live/dynamic wallpapers if they're not live unless we push hard on the screen ? I think it's a bad design choice. We almost never get a chance to actually enjoy thoses animated wallpapers. Why can't we have some basic options, like "pulse" "slow" etc that would loop thoses beautiful live wallpapers ? If you agree you know what to do : https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html [link] [comments] |
Apple may have completely scrapped iPhone SE 2 Posted: 21 Jun 2018 04:00 PM PDT |
Posted: 21 Jun 2018 10:19 AM PDT Hello r/Apple, I would love to spotlight a specific use-case for the Touch Bar that maybe not a lot of people notice. I have dyslexia and a really hard time to spell words correctly. Taking notes in class is hard because I write so slow and it is a a lot harder to discuss my notes with classmates because nobody can read a dame word. And a that point the MacBook Pro came in. You can see the words while typing and that is a godsend. I'm so much faster it is unbelievable like a switch in my brain is turned on. If you are telling me a word I cannot spell it in my head I had to memorized every single word I know like a foreign language and I can recall my memory so much faster with the pictorial representation of words in the touch bar. Thank you Apple for making my life a lot easier :-) [link] [comments] |
The physics case of never needing to charge your watch again. Posted: 21 Jun 2018 12:04 PM PDT I'm going to do the math for what it would take to never have to charge your watch again if you used kinetic energy of your hand's movement while walking. The Apple Watch has a 1.07 watt hour battery. (279 mAh at 3.82V) 1.07 watt hour = 3852 newton meters (N-m) For harnessing kinetic energy, you need something that accelerates or decelerates. At first I thought about having a weight inside the watch, but there is realistically no room. So why not use the watch's weight itself? I will assume weight of 40 grams for the watch going forward. You can change the number and re-do the math. I couldn't find a number for how fast the wrist is when an average person is walking, but simply looking at the videos of people walking, looks like for half the time the hand is almost still (compared to the ground) and half the time it's moving almost twice as fast as the person's speed. (hence moving forward compared to your body). The average human walking speed is 1.4 meters per second. that means the hand is reaching roughly 2 meters per second and stopping in every step. There are 1312 steps in each kilometre so how much kinetic energy can be harvested from a 40gram weight on our wrist for each kilometre? 40grams, from 0 to 2m/s back to 0, 1312 times = 209.920 newton meters. So to fully charge your watch from 0 to 100% you need to walk 18.5 kilometres. and that's assuming 100% conversion of kinetic energy to electric charge and no friction at all. friction between the watch and your skin, and your skin flexing under the band when you move your hand is where most of the energy goes right now and this assumes none of that waste happens. as you can see using the kinetic energy of the watch on your wrist is not really an efficient method of charging your watch. This post was inspired by this rumour post that the series 4 watch might use this technique but it's very unlikely. Just for fun, here are another activities that uses the same amount of energy to charge the Apple Watch from 0 to 100: bicep curl: 19.25 KG x 20 reps deadlift: 77kg x 5 reps Hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing it. If I made any mistakes please let me know and I'll correct the info. [link] [comments] |

Texts sent using Siri should be marked as such Posted: 21 Jun 2018 03:04 AM PDT I use Siri to send texts all the time when driving but there are definitely some words lost in the voice translation. It would be nice if in Messages you could see if a message was sent via Siri so people can immediately start interpreting the text differently. [link] [comments] |

"Simple Space" high-quality wallpaper and watch face collection for Apple Devices Posted: 22 Jun 2018 12:27 AM PDT Let's just step right in. I made and collected a consistent wallpaper collection for many different Apple Devices. It's called "Simple Space". All of the wallpapers follow a similar style and they are all related to space. The wallpapers have been OLED-optimised for iPhone X and Apple Watch users in order to maximise battery life. As Mac's don't have OLED displays (yet), the Mac wallpapers are not OLED-optimised and don't use true black colour in order to look better on LCD displays. The optimised device list includes (This means that the wallpapers will be very "crisp" on those devices but may be blurry on others):
The iPhone wallpaper is the only "static" one as there is no slideshow, rotating or dynamic option like there is on the Mac and the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch watch face will rotate and change between different planets each time you wake the screen or tap it, giving it a more "alive" feeling. The best I could do with the Mac was to create three wallpapers meant to slideshow. My recommended slideshow timing is 5 minutes. Instructions to re-create this watch face for the Apple Watch:

Question: iMessage delivery status - iPhone vs. MacBook Posted: 21 Jun 2018 05:46 PM PDT Earlier today I sent two messages from my phone to a person who has read receipts enabled. I didn't see a read notification pop up at the time I sent the messages and as of right now, the phone just says "delivered". I was on my MacBook awhile later and noticed a read receipt of the exact time the messages were sent. Which is correct? And why are they not synched? In the past I've had issues with read receipts but generally when two messages are sent at the same time, at least one of them shows as read. I've tried logging out and back in to iMessage and restarting both devices and they still show different delivery statuses. My Google searches suggest the delivery notification on the device the messages were sent from is correct. But there are no definitive answers and I'm really curious why this continues to be an issue across devices. Any ideas why this is and which one is correct? [link] [comments] |

Apple Maps traffic warnings- do they come from "crowdsourced" data? Posted: 21 Jun 2018 07:04 AM PDT Just curious if Apple Maps uses live data from other iphones to determine when to re-route you due to traffic jams. I know Waze does this. Just wondering how Apple gets their info on it. [link] [comments] |
Apple users, what is your preferred web browser of choice? Posted: 21 Jun 2018 09:46 AM PDT In my case, I would basically use the browser I prefer on other platforms in first place and that is Firefox. What about you guys? [link] [comments] |

MacBook Pro 2017 in clamshell mode Posted: 22 Jun 2018 02:56 AM PDT I bought a new 2017 MacBook Pro the beginning of this month. This is my first Mac. I have 2 businesses and needed to be mobile. I am very impressed with the speed of the laptop and the OS. My workflow is easier with everything I need to do. I was hoping there will be a new MacBook released with WWDC but couldn't wait any longer. I purchased it at Bestbuy due to the 45 day return policy so I can assess the keyboard. So far, it's been rock solid. I have been using it predominantly in clamshell. I usually have 3 monitors connected with the lid of the MacBook closed. The CPU temps usually hover around 52c and maxes out around 60c with the GPU temps around 40c. I do have it over a laptop cooler. After a day of work, the laptop is considerably warm. My concern is the keyboard since it is warm to the touch at the end of the day. Based on what I find online the operating temps far from being concerning. Is it safe to run the MacBook Pro in clamshell mode for a days work? Should I be concerned with the keyboard malfunctioning due it the temperature? Edit: the monitors max out at 1080p. REALLY stupid question (advice) Posted: 22 Jun 2018 02:55 AM PDT I bought an iPhone X a few months ago and am appalled at the battery life. I've had the iPhone 4, 5, 6, 7+ and upgraded to the X. It is by far the worst out of every iPhone I have ever had in terms of battery life. [link] [comments] |
My Macbook creeps me out by starting to talk in the middle of the night Posted: 22 Jun 2018 02:54 AM PDT What sounds like a joke actually scared me for real. Imagine sleeping and then waking up in the middle of the night to someone randomly talking. Of course I realised its from a speaker, but little did I know which one. The first time it happened I thought it was the radio. It took all my courage to stand up and look for myself which of my devices it could have been. I didn't find anything and the next morning I just thought it could be a dream. Then, last night it happened again. However, this time I recognized the voice and knew that it was from a Youtube video I watched. Again, I almost went back to sleep terrified from this shit. But then I remembered that I closed my Macbook with this exact video still running. It stopped when I closed my Macbook. However, the Macbook woke up at 4AM in order to perform an update and so it just casually started playing the video with the volume turned up. Apple, can you please mute the sound for automatic updates like these? So my heart doesn't have to beat at 180bpm during update nights. [link] [comments] |
