    Hey all, little backstory, my iPhone wasn't anywhere near a body of water, I didn't submerge it in water, I got rained on with my iPhone in my pocket. When I got to my truck, I inspected my iPhone and dried it with a microfiber cloth I have in my truck. The iPhone having a rating of IP67, I wasn't too worried about water getting in the phone as with my previous iPhone's (6 Plus, 7 Plus) they've gotten somewhat wet, and have never had an issue. Well fast forward to a few hours later, I see an alert that Face ID has been disabled and that something is wrong with True Depth and I can't use animoji etc. Upon further inspection, I notice there's condensation in the front and back lens. Now.. my iPhone works fine. I can make and receive calls, listen to music, I can even use animoji, only thing is.. I have condensation in my lens. I did the whole rice thing for a day and that didn't solve anything.

    I guess I'm writing to brace myself for what I should expect Apple to tell me. I have an appointment for Friday. I do have AppleCare and I did look in the SIM card port for the red line and didn't see one. I'm a little bit frustrated and confused that some rain can do this. Not sure if my device was defected or what.. kinda crossing my fingers Apple replaces it without me having to dish out the almost $600 to replace it or what not otherwise I have a device without it's main features. Has this happened to anyone else with the X? I'm anxiously waiting for Friday and scared I wasted money on this device. I've had it for maybe 3 months.

    Edit: Just got off the phone with Apple and they told me with AppleCare+, I'd just have to pay the $99 to replace the iPhone if they determine there's water damage. Better than paying almost full price. If water didn't damage main components, they'll replace at no charge over the Face ID issue. What a relief.

    Suggestion: A VPN toggle in the control center.

    Would appreciate the ability to swipe up and enable my VPN with a tap instead of going into settings.

    A hard press of the WiFi toggle to enable the VPN would be a neat way to do it. Honestly though it doesn't matter how, I just hope it gets done.

    Goodbye Note 8, Hello Iphone X

    So, dropped my Note 8 last week. Unfortunately, it was unusable and a repair would have been pricey. Went to my local cell carrier here in Korea,(I am an American living here for a few years), and got a KILLER deal on a new Iphone x. I didn't particularly want an X, in fact I was leaning towards an S9, but the deal was too good to pass up. So, here i am with an X. I am not a brand loyal guy, I use what works for me, but now I absolutely LOVE the smoothness of the X, the size factor is perfect, the screen is excellent, I could not be happier! I like my X so much, I went out and bought an Apple watch and earbuds this weekend to go with it!

    I enabled Messages in iCloud, it finished uploading, I restarted... but my phone still stays Messages is taking up 12.75 GB. What gives?

    turn off messages in icloud.

    my battery would drop rapidly with it on. 5% lost in roughly 8 mins. Now its completely fine now that I've turned it off.

    Buying an iPhone 7 in 2018 - worth it?

    Hello Reddit! I'm in need of a new phone asap but I'm also somewhat short on money. There's currently a great deal on an iPhone 7 in a local store here but I am slightly hesitant because I'm the kind of person who wants to be able to use a phone for at least 2-3 years before upgrading. If I bought an iPhone 7 today, would it be completely outdated 2 years from now or what should I expect? Thanks a lot!

    Best Note taking app for iPhone for business client account notes?

    I'm looking for the best note taking app where I can essentially keep account notes for my clients. Currently I'm using Apple Notes but it does seem kind of limited in structure for proper customer note taking.

    I also have an option in Quickbooks Online for Notes but it does not keep Notes in any sort of order. I also use Google as my business email provider through G Suite but Google Keep doesn't seem like it's very business oriented.

    Any advice or thoughts here would be highly appreciated!

    iPhone X light sensor extremely sensitive?

    Hi all,

    I have an iPhone X and recently it seems that the light sensor in the notch at the top is being extremely sensitive. If I even slightly hover a finger or my hand over the top of the phone it will cause the screen to go black. I don't think this was occurring before because I just recently started noticing it and I haven't changed the way I interact with my phone at all.

    Is there a setting to adjust this sensor's sensitivity? Has anyone else experienced something like this before? Thank you!

    iPhone X owners, does your phone "creak"?

    Has anyone noticed this? Read about it online but haven't seen too many reports.

    I've gone through 3 X's and 1 camera repair since getting my original a week ago (I've had a few issues: specks of dust under the camera glass that show up in photos, adhesive seeping out under the glass where the front facing camera is, multi-touch going crazy..)

    One thing I noticed on all 3 of these phones (and also the 2nd one even after being opened up for repaired and re-sealed) is that they creak like crazy.

    Just gripping the phone makes the body of the phone creak. Lightly pressing around the screen makes clicking noises. The easiest way I've found to recreate the sound is by holding the phone in landscape along the steel frame and making a light twisting motion.

    No, twisting isn't part of normal usage but it's easy to recreate it that way. I don't twist my phone as part of my daily usage lol but I do notice the sound when making a call, reaching for any button or mute switch, etc. It's highly annoying but it doesn't really affect the functionality of the phone so I don't care much, still disappointing for a $1k phone. My $9.99 LG Fiesta from Tracfone that I keep as a backup phone feels more solid in this sense than my X, and that phone is made of plastic so it'd be more likely to creak like that..

    Just wondering if anyone else has noticed.. My original X and the 2 replacements all had it (each worse than the previous, unfortunately), and ALL the display models at my local store do it. I don't know if it's just inherent due to the phone's design or what..

    Messages in iCloud and how it works

    Some common questions I've seen already:

    Will iCloud messages automatically enable? No, you will need to do this through Settings.

    Will there be a web interface? No, that is not publicly planned and goes against Apples tendency to avoid cross platform support.

    Can I delete my messages to save space? Not necessary, your messages are now in iCloud and no longer use device storage

    Will old messages sync to other devices? Yes, if they are on 11.4

    What happens if I delete a message? It's deleted from all devices and is not recoverable.

    Are SMS backed up too? Yes.

    Are images backed up? In my experience, yes.

    I have a set of messages archived in an iTunes backup for an old phone (5S). If I restore that backup to that phone, enabled MiiC for that, and enabled MiiC for my current iPhone, will my messages be merged? Yes

    What if I have duplicates between devices? The two databases are merged, meaning only messages present on Device 1 are copied to Device 2 and vice versa.

    Some issues since upgrading to 11.4

    I've lost LTE connection entirely. I only get 3G in my house which is abnormal. I've toggled airplane mode, removed and replaced the sim, reset network settings and reset all settings to no avail. Verizon isn't having any issues and is telling me it's the software update.

    Wi-Fi calling no longer works. It just won't connect. I've checked all settings and they are set up correctly. Reset the phone and modem/router. Internet and wifi are working on all other devices in the house.

    The app icon for Inbox keeps greying out. If I open Inbox it works fine but the app will grey out as soon as the screen locks.

    I'm running an iPhone 8 with iOS 11.4. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem or problems may be? Thanks in advance.

I've posted here in the past looking for general feedback, which led to us making a bunch of the changes that you recommended. However, many of the other comments that were left got us to do some hard thinking. So right now, we are trying to narrow down which market to tackle in order to get this to blow up.     Why we're doing this:

    About 4 years ago I started realizing how much happens locally that people aren't aware about. With advances in technology and the rise of social networks, we have access to far more information than we did 10 years ago, but our access to local information has yet to catch up with the trend. More and more is happening locally, yet gradually we're becoming less and less in touch with our surroundings. This hurts local businesses and the local economy, and leaves us feeling more isolated as a society. Nowadays it's hard to strike up a conversation with a stranger, or find a reason to step away from a screen and leave your home. Without a source of local information, we lose our connection to the here and now, and we become weaker as a society. So 4 years ago, I set upon a mission to get this connection back.

    What we're doing:

    UBMe is the pulse to your local community that makes everything around you come to life. The main feature, which has been live since last year, allows users to check-in to any location and start a live group chat. For example, students can use UBMe to check-in to whichever building they are at on campus and communicate with others in a live group chat. Once you leave the building, you are checked-out.

    Two more features we just added (only on iOS, will be added to Android in 2 weeks) are the heat map and the city-wide chat. The heat map allows users to see where people are checked-in and chatting nearby, and also ask the people who are checked-in there a question about what's happening there. We also introduced a live group chat that is accessible by every user within the radius of the city, so that everyone in town can communicate at once.

    Our NEW problem:

    Ultimately we want to give the best experience that we can to our users, because at the end of the day that's all that matters. Depending on where or who you are, the live chat feature has many potential use cases. You can use it while at an event to chat with people who share your interests, you can use it to communicate with other people on your college campus, you can use the city-wide chat to get local information or recommendations about popular places in town, and much more. The opportunities are basically endless; however, we are working to find a more specific place to start, since there aren't any established models out there for us to follow.

    The question we are posing then is: When is the best time to use this live chat and for what purpose? We don't have much to offer, but to give back to Reddit and to thank you all for helping us out, we're giving away Reddit gold to the best responses :)

    Restoring data, but not settings after a reset

    My main question is how I can restore only my data (mainly photos/videos) from iCloud, but not keep any previous settings.

    The backstory is this: I used to have a 6S, where about 2 years ago it started to act really weird in multiple ways: It would erase what I put into the input field when trying to text someone (I basically only have enough time to enter 2 characters), crashing, freezing, etc.

    When I bought an iPhone X and restored from my old phone, the behavior remained. I tried to reset all settings, but not data and it only fixed one or two of the many issues. I have no music on the phone. The only data that is important to me is my photos/videos. I would like to start completely fresh, but still retain my photos. What is the best way to go about this?

    iOS and Android Data privacy

    Hey guys, I'm having a discussion with a Android user and I feel like i run out of arguments. Also I just want to argue about data privacy and how each OS is handling that. Imagine if a person really really wants to secure their personal data and has to choose a OS such as android and iOS. Which is better in doing so? And why?

    Icloud messages conversations show zero ko

    I turned on icloud messages sync.

    Sync has just completed and icloud storage management shows messages take 2,5 Go.

    But when I click on messages to have more details about the storage, it shows that conversations take zero ko and when I click on it I can't see any conversation.

    Do you have the same problem ? How could I fix it ?
