    Weekly Support Thread

Hello! Welcome to this weeks Weekly Support Thread

This thread is to help answer all of your simple questions, and keep /r/AppleWatch's front page clean! Got a simple question? Get a simple answer. It's as simple as that. The thread's been set to sort posts randomly to push all sorts of questions to the top.

Before you ask, please make sure you've checked out our wiki's troubleshooting guide, searched it on Google, or used our subreddit search feature (wow, who knew that was a thing)! If you can't find an answer, you want some further insight, or you're just lazy, feel free to post your question here.

    What can I ask?

If you've been asked to post your question here, then go ahead! Otherwise, if your question is one or two sentences long, and is pretty simple (such as asking for recommendations, apps, troubleshooting, app issues, etc), go ahead. If you need a lot more investigation, or you're asking for many opinions, go ahead and post it elsewhere (it may be removed if it's too simple, or it's deemed to be more suitable for here).

This watch has seriously changed my life for the better

    Posted: 07 May 2018 05:45 PM PDT

Currently in hospital to treat gout and am in a wheelchair. Though this was interesting for a “stand” notification.

Do you leave the Activity settings at default or change them? How do you decide what is a good level?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 07:37 AM PDT

I have recently gone through some weight loss. I got my apple watch at the end of the weight loss but want to use it to help make sure I am doing what I need to do to maintain that weight. Does anyone have any advice on where to set the activity levels for maintaining weight? I know it all depends on height/weight/age etc but is there a way to determine what mine should be? I have left it at default for the time being but feel like maybe I should up it a bit. Thanks.

Apple should allow Apple Watch workouts to sync with STRAVA.

Does anyone else find themselves tapping notifications with their nose?

Just a shout out to Overcast’s Apple Watch app. It’s probably my favorite watch app from just a usability perspective. Clean, all the important stuff is big and available. Just laid out well. It’s a joy to use.

My Watch doesn’t recognize me moving on my bike

    Posted: 08 May 2018 08:12 AM PDT

I cycle fairly often to go to places (I'm dutch) and my watch is doing something weird:

When I don't turn on the activity of cycling my apple watch gives me less credit for my movements. I have less minutes of training and less calories burned.

However when I do turn on the activity of cycling, I get more minutes and calories burned.

Has anybody else experienced the same?

[help] Watch changed default run on me?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 07:28 AM PDT

So ever since I had my watch, the default run had been "Open Goal" which is all I want. Today, on my way back from my run, I noticed i must have brushed my watch and ended my run tracking and started a new one. Annoying, but whatever. The problem is, now, my default run is set to a 1 hour timed run. See this picture https://imgur.com/a/qrr2yMF How do I change my default run back to what it used to be?

Well, we finally took the plunge.

After a couple years of fitbits and eyeing the Apple Watch, my wife and I bought each other one as Mother's Day/Father's Day gifts. So far we love them.

What do you think are some "must have" apps that pair well with the watch? We do a lot of fitness stuff and I would like to start food logging. Also, anything else that's just super useful or fun to have?

    Thanks!

I'm about to buy Apple Watch, cannot decide which running app to use?

    Posted: 08 May 2018 12:43 AM PDT

    Hi folks,

I'm literally counting minutes to sneak from work to Apple store and treat myself with this gift.

I've been using Runkeeper for years. People around me use Strava a lot and I'm tempted to move to it, due to "community". I potentially thinking of moving to Nike+ Run Club, because I'm going to Apple Watch Nike+ Edition.

Any recommendations here and pros and cos about these apps?

Please keep in mind, I've searched through this reddit and google where comparisons of these apps were made. The problem is that majority of these posts were like 1-2 years old. So I want to have the latest information.

    Thanks

Is there a way to make my Apple Watch series 3 use my phones GPS while running but still run the Nike app on the watch for control?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 09:08 PM PDT

Hi all! Thanks in advance for any help. I just got a series 3 Apple Watch, and took it out for a run. Problem is the watch is not getting the correct distance, and a route that is 6.6 miles ended up as 6.02 according to the watch. I verified through gmaps pedometer that my phone, which I had been using before, was correct. Is there a way I can use my phone as the source of the app while still controlling the app through my watch? I just started using the Nike runners club app but I have used MapMyRun before and have Strava downloaded. Thanks again for any advice!

What’s your favorite part about the Apple Watch? What’s your least favorite part about the Apple Watch?

    Workout app often unresponsive

    Posted: 07 May 2018 06:01 AM PDT

Pretty much the only problem I consistently have with my 38mm S3 Sport is that when I open the workout app, 9 times out of 10 it will normally not respond to any input. Sometimes it may respond slowly, but with a huge delay and the display having a shockingly low frame rate (a frame ever few seconds). To get it to work I have to wait for it to crash as there is no way to (fully) kill an app on watchOS.

Does anyone else experience this, and has anyone found a fix?

    Apple Watch series 1 42mm or series 3 38mm?

    Posted: 07 May 2018 05:56 PM PDT

I have been wanting an Apple Watch for a while now and finally decided to go buy one, but I'm stuck on which to buy. My fingers are kinda big so I would really like a 42mm and the cheapest option is the series 1, but I also want the newest option, and the cheapest would obviously be the series 3 38mm. Any suggestions and anything else besides the gps on why the series 3 is a lot better than the series 1?

Love how jewel-like the SS looks in good weather, probably the main reason why I bought it

Time Zone change messing up activity

    Posted: 07 May 2018 05:18 PM PDT

I was in the mountain time zone last night and finished filling my rings during the 11 pm hour. This morning I drove to the central time zone and now my rings from yesterday are not full and my activity for today shows a lot during the midnight hour (which is really 11 pm in the mountain time zone) so my rings are falsely higher than they should be today. Is there any way to fix this? I have a 125 day move streak and I don't want this to ruin it!

    Digital crown not working

    Posted: 07 May 2018 03:28 PM PDT

I always have to press really hard and slightly move the digital crown sideways while pushing for it to work.

My Apple watch is still under warranty (no AppleCare+). Do you think they're going to replace the whole watch, in case? Or they'll just replace the single part?
