Tip: how to paste text without including formatting on iOS Posted: 24 May 2018 05:58 PM PDT Part of my job includes doing a fair amount of copy/pasting from Safari into Notes (or Pages), and I usually don't want to include any formatting (bold/italic/etc) or images/videos. Using Select>Copy on iOS includes all that, BUT if you use Select>Share>Copy instead, your pasted content will be unformatted text. Hope that helps someone! [link] [comments] |
Mac OS X won't boot/mount after bootcamp install Posted: 24 May 2018 07:00 PM PDT My macs primary partition (high Sierra ) won't boot/ isn't recognized after installing Windows. I'm going to bet money that it's because of damn Paragon NTFS, this is happening. I can see my raw Mac osx partition in MiniTools on Windows 10 and I can also in Disk Utility on Mac(in recovery) it shows up as "--" but won't mount. http://imgur.com/gallery/7B4n14k Any ideas? I've been trying things for about 3 hours. I might just restore mac freshly at this point. [link] [comments] |

Shared Apple ID. How do I change my Apple ID and keep everybody else in working order? Posted: 24 May 2018 02:21 PM PDT I apologize upfront for poor formatting, I'm on mobile. I was always the tech person for my family, which means I was just slightly more knowledgeable than them. I was the first to get an iPhone and then after my mom and sister got one, they just used my Apple ID to set theirs up. Now it's a mess every time they get a new phone or change something because we all get each other's call and texts. This is not acceptable for me for a plethora of reasons, but I've moved far enough away that I can't fix it for them. Is it possible to easily change the Apple ID on my phone, and let them keep using the old one? I don't live near them anymore and can't readily make changes on their phones. I'm hoping this is an easy fix and I'm just overlooking the obvious solution. Thanks in advance for any help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2018 06:15 PM PDT Edit: MacBook 2016 I have tried 2 hubs but both of them weren't able to charge iPad Air 2 when I was using Duet Display. The battery icon on iPad says Not Charging. But surprisingly when I turn off Duet Display and turn off iPad screen it seems to charge however slowly. Would really appreciate your help. Why I need the hub? Because I need to charge my MacBook and use Duet Display [link] [comments] |
Is there any way to factory reset my iPhone 6s without updating it? Posted: 24 May 2018 02:25 PM PDT Internet is shit where I live, and updating it will always fail at around 38% - 42%. Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm resetting it because it's disabled. [link] [comments] |
Lost iPhone, Forgot Apple ID password Posted: 24 May 2018 09:53 PM PDT My dad lost his iPhone 5s today. We went to use the find my iPhone app on my phone but he did not know what his password was. Went to reset the password but it said it sent instructions to phone. Tried clicking "don't have access to this phone" and it now wants a code sent to that phone. Not sure what to do now other than call Apple. Hesitant to call Apple about Apple ID as last time I called for help they bricked my phone for 6 days. [link] [comments] |
Issues with iCloud Music Library Posted: 24 May 2018 02:06 PM PDT So ever since Apple Music has been thing, I've been using that to download music to my phone instead of syncing songs from my computer. There has never been an issue, and only songs I downloaded from Apple Music (on my phone) were showing in my library, and iCloud Music Library has always been enabled on my phone. This all changed yesterday when I restarted my phone (for particular reason, just turned it off and back on again). Now, all the music I have in my MacBook iTunes is showing on my phone. If I turn off iCloud Music Library, this all goes away, but then I also cannot use Apple Music to download songs/albums into my iPhone library...when I try to do this it tells me to turn on iCloud Music Library and all my MacBook music shows up again. Is there a way I can have ONLY the music I download from Apple Music on my phone showing, rather than my whole iTunes library of 10,000+ songs? I don't want to see all my music from my computer showing on my phone. I just want the few playlists I had created and the few albums I had downloaded showing, so I don't have to scroll through everything to find what's actually downloaded. Is something this simple no longer possible on my phone? I have an iPhone SE that is up to date with all Apple updates (running iOS 11.3.1). TL;DR: iCloud Music Library on = all my thousands of iTunes songs showing on my phone. iCloud Music Library off = no music on my phone, but also not able to use Apple Music on my phone to download songs for offline use --> all I want is to see the playlists and albums I downloaded from Apple Music for offline use...any ideas? How do I stop Facetime from turning down the sounds of all my other applications? Posted: 24 May 2018 09:25 PM PDT Whenever I Facetime on my MacBook Pro it turns down the audio for all of apps. Anyone know how to turn up the volume of the apps without making the Facetime audio super loud? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Migration Assistant - macOS version mismatch Posted: 24 May 2018 05:34 PM PDT I just got a new MacBook Air and I have a little issue I'm looking for advice on. I want to restore the data from my old MacBook via Migration Assistant (from a Time Machine backup). But the old MacBook was on macOS 10.13.4 and the new one is on 10.13.3. Migration Assistant tells me I have to upgrade the new Air to 10.13.4. But the updater for that tells me that the Air isn't compatible with 10.13.4. (And it's a brand new Air, so it should be, I hope...) Any clues? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Dropped iPhone 5S. Vertical lines appeared, now screen is dark and unresponsive Posted: 24 May 2018 02:22 PM PDT Someone accidentally knocked my iPhone 5S onto the floor. I didn't immediately turn it on after the fall so I didn't notice this, but about 10 minutes later I turned on my phone to check what time it was and noticed colorful vertical lines on the screen. I could still enter my phone and swipe about, but after turning it on and off a few times the colored lines are gone, but the screen is very dark and unresponsive. At one point my wallpaper could faintly be seen, but now it just looks like I have a pure black background. I can just see the top bar symbols, the time, and the date, but they look "glitchy". I can't get past the lockscreen anymore either. Is there anything I can do to fix this or does it sound like Apple can? [link] [comments] |
Bootcamp says I don’t have enough space. But in reality I do. Posted: 24 May 2018 04:21 PM PDT Bootcamp assistant says I need at least 39gb of free space on my start up drive. But I have 166gb available. When looking at the built in storage estimates and using the diskutil commands, It's revealed I don't have any lingering partitions or issues on my drive I know of that could be causing Bootcamp assistant to read my drive as not having enough space. My drive uses the new APFS format and is encrypted with FileVault. Any chance one of those things are the issue? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2018 04:10 PM PDT It's sparking or flashing-only when I lay it down. Not when in use. It is seen from screen pointing up,laying on its back. It appears at the top of the phone maybe underneath? Almost like the flash going off. It makes a noise but sounds like electrical not the flash sound. Any advice is appreciated. Ive googled it and can't find any information. Tia Edit; it did it again. It happens when the phone goes to the black screen while laying on its back, when it happens the screen goes back to the podcast im listening to. What the heck?? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2018 07:39 PM PDT My computer: Late 2013 rMBP running High Sierra 10.13.4 USB drive: Kingston DataTraveler 2.0 Issue: Trying to load drivers onto USB to fix no WiFi and no sound issues in my recent install of Windows 10 via Bootcamp. The USB was working fine until suddenly, it wasn't! I've tried every method I can dig up to fix this, overwrite the drive, fill it with random data, destroy the GUID partition tables manually and rewrite them, etc. Nothing has worked! I need your help Mac Experts! Detailed issue: I have a USB drive that suddenly stopped working. It's not an issue with the USB slots on my rMBP (late 2013), since I tried it on a brand new MacBook Air to no avail. It goes like this: I insert the USB drive and get this error popup: "The disk you inserted was not readable by the computer." I try to erase it using Disk Utility but it never works. I've tried all manner of tricks, writing zeros, writing random code, even going as far as to use the methods here including writing a script to fill up the drive with random data. Doesn't fix the problem. The weird thing is that when I run commands like: It seems to complete but then the disk appears unmounted, it doesn't show up in diskutil list or Disk Utility. I then pull it out and put it back in, trying to use the commands recommended here and here but it says: "error: no primary GPT header; run create or recover." This is just after running "create." I've gone through the same steps several times to no avail. After going through this process I recently tried to manually partition it via Terminal but it got stuck at 50% on the "creating partition map" stage. This seems to be the same problem that Disk Utility is running into as it never moves past the "creation partition map" step. I just tried a secure erase again and got this error: Any ideas? This is giving me some major headaches. Thank you! Edit for formatting and clarity. [link] [comments] |

The screen size is not correct on some apps (iPad Pro 9.7") Posted: 24 May 2018 07:05 PM PDT While using some apps, such as HQTrivia and Carcassonne, some of the screen is cut off. It seems like the apps 'think' I am using an iPad Pro 12.9". [link] [comments] |
My iPhone 8 will not notify me of text message from one particular person. Posted: 24 May 2018 12:21 PM PDT For about the past week my phone refuses to alert me if my husband texts me. It shows him that I immediately 'read' the message, as if I have the thread open 24/7. -I have 'hide alerts' toggled OFF. -I don't get a notification on my lock screen -I don't get the red '1' on my messages icon -I don't get a blue dot on the thread when I do open messages -it notifies him that I immediately 'read' his message even if I don't for hours. It doesn't happen to my text with ANYONE else, including iPhone and android users. I've never had a problem like this in 4 years if iPhone use. Please help. [link] [comments] |
I want to share a folder on my desktop with another user on a different computer. Is this possible? Posted: 24 May 2018 08:23 AM PDT I'm trying to set it up through Family Sharing... not sure that's the right direction. Google results has me thinking it might not be possible, but that doesn't seem right. [link] [comments] |
iPhone is disabled because of software glitch- please help. Posted: 24 May 2018 05:06 PM PDT My iPhone has been disabled for 6 days now.. It all started about a week and a half ago. I was trying to download an app and my phone prompted I type in my AppleID password. I did, and then it prompted me to change my password.. which I did. Then I proceeded on and went to download the app again. Again, I was prompted to type in my password.. I tried the new one multiple times without luck. Next, I tried the old one and still no luck. Worried now, I tried to reset it again and I had to provide some information. First, my phone number. Then, my old credit card information (which I did not remember because I had gotten rid of it more than a year ago). Apple provided the option to receive apple help and it notes that I would be contacted within 24 hours. I went on for days ignoring prompts to type in my AppleID information because I knew that neither my old or new password worked. I figured I would just go to apple when I had a chance. A few days later (Saturday the 19th), I was reading the New York Times App and my screen went black. I exited out of all the open apps hoping that solved the problem. Then, I opened the app again and the screen went back again. I went ahead and restarted my phone to a screen that read "iPhone is disabled connect to iTunes". I may or may not have tried to enter my AppleID when I was prompted to again before I opened the NYT app? I cannot remember. In any case, I have vital information on my phone that I cannot lose in my notes, pictures and videos. I also cannot remember the last time I backed up to iCloud. I have tried to look on my mac but I keep getting a prompt that reads "This mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with "myemail". Open iCloud preferences to fix this problem. (Later) (iCloud Preferences)". ... I tried to log into my iCloud with my AppleID information and a prompt read that I would be given a information to reset my password on my phone in 4 days... But I cannot get into my phone. It's a rabbit hole and I am having a mental breakdown and I just really cannot lose the information I have on my phone. Not to mention, I have google two-step verification and I cannot get into my gmail without getting into my phone. Does anybody know how to retrieve data from a disabled iPhone? Also, can someone please tell me why this happened? [link] [comments] |
Second iPhone 6S Battery replacement Posted: 24 May 2018 04:29 AM PDT Hi friendly folks, I've just purchased a second hand iPhone 6S and according to CoconutBattery on my Mac, the phone capacity is at 60% (1000mAh). I just ran the serial number through apples website to see if it's eligible for a battery replacement and it says that either this serial number was not affected by battery problems, or it's already had a replacement. Am I still able to get the battery replaced in store for the reduced rate (£25)? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
I need to disable Find My Friends on the DL Posted: 24 May 2018 05:35 AM PDT Is there a way for me to stop sharing my location without it letting my friends know that I disabled it? iOS 11.3.1, iPod Touch 6: phantom unread message in iMessage Posted: 24 May 2018 03:10 PM PDT Anyone else, about two days ago, get a persistent notification of an unread message? Did a power down-power on and a power-Home reboot, as well as clearing all my messages. Nothing cleared the phantom message. Any other suggestions? Or just deal with it until 11.3.2/11.4? MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) sudden green screen tint issue Posted: 24 May 2018 08:05 AM PDT Hello, I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013). worked perfectly for most of it's life, and then a few days ago I opened it up and the screen was tinted green. I've noticed that the tint is present when the computer wakes up from sleep or being turned off, and then fades away after 10-15 minutes. It seems to be correlated to how long the screen is off—if it's off overnight, it's really green for 15 minutes, but if it's off for a few minutes, it's slightly green for ~3 minutes. Have not spilled anything, dropped it, etc. I've found a lot of other threads on this while searching, but I've tried everything (resetting pram, scm, OS, etc) and nothing is helping. A strange number of people who have had this issue also say that, for them, it just kind of goes away after a few hours.... but mine is getting worse, if anything. And there have also been a number of people who had to get their screen replaced, so. Any advice or other things to try would be really appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 May 2018 01:55 PM PDT The USB port is broken so there's no way for me to clone my old HDD into the new SSD using a cable. How do I install MacOS onto the SSD? I don't mind losing all the data on my old HDD. I also don't mind the USB port being broken (was told the MoBo repair required for it would be hundreds of dollars). [link] [comments] |
