How long can an iMac stay on?

    Posted: 26 May 2018 12:26 PM PDT

I have an older iMac from 2011.

The internal hard drive has failed so it's running off an external.

A graphics glitch occurs when it sleeps or the screensaver comes on.

I just need to work on it for the summer.

Can I just leave it on 24/7 until it dies?

It seems intuitively more taxing to turn it off and on every day.

The fan kicks on sometimes. I've never had it on long enough to know if the fan eventually stops once it's done freaking out about a task.

battery died 2 months after my warranty was up

    Posted: 26 May 2018 09:30 PM PDT

I own a MacBook, I purchased it last year and this winter the batter stopped charging little by little until I can longer use it unless plugged in. it runs horribly. I just don't understand what went wrong with my battery. I am planning on getting it replaced this week unfortunately because it's no longer under warranty paying out of pocket. Tips to avoid this in the future this is my first apple product.

Pre ordered an album and didn't get any of the songs

    Posted: 26 May 2018 05:10 PM PDT

I pre ordered an album a couple of hours before it was going to release. The album already had some songs that were available to buy before the whole album was. So when I pre ordered I got the songs that were already available for purchase. But when the whole album became available, the songs I didn't have yet didn't download. When I go on iTunes it says I have purchased the album and I got the receipt days later for the full price of the album. It has been a month sense I bought the album and still nothing. So today I decided to buy some songs to see if buying something would maybe enable the missing songs to download also. Still nothing. Please help.

    Found my old iPod

    Posted: 26 May 2018 01:38 PM PDT

Hey I found my old 20gb iPod and there is a bit of music on it but nothing to my current taste. Unfortunately I no longer have any "real" music on my hard drive as a switched to Apple Music.

I was going to rip music from CDs that I have lying around, if I make a new user will it be a completely separate iTunes ?

Wife locked her mom's Apple ID - will she still be able to use her phone?

    Posted: 26 May 2018 02:43 PM PDT

Hi, my mother-in-law gave us her old ipad. When trying to set up our account (removing her account), my wife locked her mom's apple ID. Her mom is asleep in another time zone, and we are worried what this actually means.

I understand she won't be able to use itunes, etc... but will the phone still function normally? That is, can she still use WhatsApp and make calls, etc...?

    Thank you!

Unable to stream audio from iPad to HomePod both from native apps, third party apps, and websites. My HomePod’s name comes up in the selection of where to stream to, but it just attempts to connect for a minute before failing.

    Posted: 26 May 2018 06:28 PM PDT

I've reset and set up my HomePod, reset my router a couple times, set the permissions so anyone on the network can use the HomePod, but still nothing.

It worked for the first month or so just fine, but it's since stopped. All other HomePod functions work just fine (playing music/podcasts, asking for news, baseball scores, weather, etc.), and I can stream audio and video from my iPad to all my appletvs just fine as well. I can also go into the home app and see my HomePod there, tapping it unpauses the homepod if I had a music playing via "hey Siri" (which again, works just fine). So I know it's connecting at least somewhat.

Fan control for MacBook Pro and normal GPU temperatures?

    Posted: 26 May 2018 09:46 AM PDT

I'm using the MacBook Pro, 15-inch, 2017. 2.9GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB memory, with Radeon Pro 590 graphics.

I completely understand that Macs aren't designed for gaming, but I like to use mine for gaming a few times a week when I have the chance. However, I'm having a problem with my MacBook getting extremely hot after just a few minutes of gaming (to the point that I don't feel comfortable and have to quit whatever game I'm playing)

I'm using Macs Fan Control to monitor temperature and seeing temperatures in excess of 70-80 degrees Celsius. Is this harmful to my MacBook? I've read that although MacBooks can operates at high temperatures it's not ideal and will eventually cause damage. I also want to know if it's safe for me to use custom settings for the fans while gaming (at speeds of around 4000-5000rpm). Will this cause damage to the components?

I don't want to limit what I can do with this laptop, but I also don't want to cause damage as a result of performing tasks that I was assured it could handle.

I'm selling my macbook pro to someone. It has a newer OS (Mountain Lion) than when I bought it (Snow Leopard), and they say they're unable to reinstall Mountain Lion. What do they need to do?

    Posted: 26 May 2018 05:16 AM PDT

I erased the HD before giving it to them. They say when they go to reinstall Mountain Lion (after connecting to Wi-Fi) they sign in with their Apple ID, and then it won't install.

Do they need to revert the computer to the OS it shipped with in order for a reinstallation to work? Do they need a Mountain Lion installation DVD or USB? Why can't they do it over the internet, or even without the internet for that matter?

EDIT: this is a 15" mid 2010 macbook pro

iPhone 7 not making sound when receiving a new notification from HandyPro app

    Posted: 26 May 2018 04:50 PM PDT

All my other apps make sounds when I receive a new notification. It's just this app that is giving me trouble

I've basically tried every solution that comes up when googling this problem. Which includes: Resetting "all settings" Turning off the notifications, restarting then turning them back on. The ringer is on. Do not disturb is off

Perhaps it has something to do with that I have to go to device management and trust the app in order for it to fully download?

It's really annoying because the notifications are new jobs I can claim but I always miss them because my phone doesn't make a notification sound.

Any help with this would be really appreciated!

Macbook Pro Battery 0% and wrong date

    Posted: 26 May 2018 04:02 PM PDT

Model: MacBook Pro Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015

While I was working, I didn't realise that the battery was low and as a result, my MacBook Pro shut down when the battery had no power. So, then I plugged in the charger and powered it on. This time I noticed something was strange. The battery was stuck in 0% for like around 10 minutes and the date got reset to 1st January 2017. I tried resetting PRAM. Nothing happened. So, then I ran diagnostics and I got this as a result. Here's the battery information and here's a screenshot from Battery Health.

Now it is pretty obvious that you might ask me to change the battery because the screenshots say so, but I want a final opinion from you guys what to do next. Everything was working fine and all of a sudden this happens. I feel if I plugged the charger in time, I wouldn't have to see all this. And also a new battery isn't exactly affordable for me at the moment. And it is also important to note that while the charger is on, it shows orange LED. So, what should I do?

I just lost almost all of my photos

    Posted: 26 May 2018 07:41 AM PDT

So the other day I (for some unknown reason) decided to log out of my iCloud account on my phone. I later logged back into it and I went into my photos today and almost all of my photos are just gone. They were still there when I logged back in but now they have just gone.

I have tried googling to see if anything solves it and I haven't been able to solve the problem yet. It'd be great if someone was able to help solve this.

It would be really helpful if someone could solve this as I had a lot of important photos on my phone.

Edit: I'm on an iPhone SE using iOS 11.0.3

Gray static upon opening June 2017 MBP after significant time asleep.

    Posted: 26 May 2018 07:42 AM PDT

June 2017 13" MBP 256GB macOS 10.13.4 Purchased certified refurb from Apple in January

When I open my MBP after it's been asleep for a while it flashes static for a half second, like on an old TV with no input. I have tried to screenshot it but it disappears before the screenshot registers. It's almost like there is a loose connection that takes a second to settle in when its opened. It doesn't seem to affect performance after it starts up.

I'm wondering if I can take it to Apple and have them look at it but I'm not sure how to prove anything is happening unless it happens in front of them. If anyone else has had this problem or any recommendations on what I should do, that would be great.

    Thanks!

Whenever I alt-tab into iTunes, the alt key "sticks"

    Posted: 26 May 2018 11:07 AM PDT

In classic internet fashion, I googled my problem and found exactly one other person with this problem and no reponses to their thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8196168

My problem is pretty much identical to theirs. I alt tab into itunes to quickly change the song and when I search for something, it starts behaving like I'm pretty alt+[letters], so opening itunes help, options, going to the store etc.. It's pretty frustrating.

Anybody know what's causing this or how to fix?

    iTunes 12.7.4.80, Win10.

Macbook pro - icloud taking up most of my internal storage

    Posted: 26 May 2018 01:46 AM PDT

I realised even when I was deleting stuff, my mac kept telling me everything was full, so I checked out my storage and it said Icloud drive was taking everything up.

I pay $5 a month for the storage but I recently got a new credit card, so I just went and updated my icloud credit card and instantly the free storage went from 3GB to 5GB.

However, it's been about an hour and it hasn't changed from 5GB free.

Rather than screenshotting, here's my storage - 5.54GB free out of 120.11 GB ~ 71.8GB icloud drive, 58.52GB documents, 30.3 apps, 3.7GB photos

Why is 71.8GB of icloud drive being stored internally on my mac instead of on the drive? How do I change this so my mac can be freed of storage?

Some songs not copying onto iPhone from iTunes

    Posted: 26 May 2018 09:16 AM PDT

Hi, I just got a new iPhone 6 and I'm having trouble manually adding some songs onto it. I wanted to set my new phone up as a new iPhone because I had too much clutter on my old one, but still wanted all of my 500 some songs. I copied them from the computer, but there are 76 songs that won't copy onto the phone when I manually try and do it. I've restarted the phone, restarted the computer, but no luck. I can't figure out why these won't copy onto the phone as there is no error message or anything

Having trouble backing up. If I cut and paste the DCIM image files, will my album/favourite settings be saved with the transfer?

    Posted: 26 May 2018 07:51 AM PDT

When I looked at the files, all my pics are in folders called "103APPLE" all the way to like "120APPLE".

If I cut and paste these pictures into a folder, when I paste them back into my factory restored phone, will all my albums still be there?

    Thanks

    Disk Utility froze in First-Aid

    Posted: 25 May 2018 11:41 PM PDT

I ran a quick first-aid with disk utility today but unfortunately the disk utility froze on "preforming fsck_apfs -n -l -x /dev/rdisk1s1". i would say this is a first, but ive had this happen before about a month ago with the exact same issue(since then hard-drive was erased and restarted from scratch)

I had to force shutdown my mac and rebooted into recovery mode, where i ran disk utility first-aid(everything ok). After i booted back to normal i ran a second disk utility first-aid; everything shows up fine, but i do not know why this has happened.

Why did disk utility freeze at "preforming fsck_apfs -n -l -x /dev/rdisk1s1" and what can i do in the future if this happens again? Has anyone else ran into this issue with Disk Utility where they have to force shut down their mac just because it freezes up?

I have not turned up my brightness or switched on inverted colors in settings. It just suddenly became that way. It appears to still be fully functional, besides the literal glaringly obvious problem.

not sure if fake or not

    Posted: 25 May 2018 10:13 PM PDT

a pop up keeps coming up saying my mac has viruses and need to be fixed, there's a number and i called and it seemed fairly legit. when the pop up appears the only way to close it is by turning off the mac at the wall because it says 'don't ignore or apple will be forced to shut down your mac until it's fixed' and then when turned on again the message comes back.

i plan to have a technician come look at it but for now just to verify this is fake, what are some questions i can ask when i call up the number again?

(even if this is obviously fake and i look like an idiot, i'd still like to call back, ask the questions and call them out for their attempted scam)

any help is appreciated, thank you!!
