I connect my Macbook Pro to an external monitor at home and would like to utilize a bluetooth keyboard. I also wouldn't mind if it was ergonomic since I tend to spend quite a bit of time using it. My 2011 crapped out and someone is basically willing to give me theirs from a 2013. When I look up the hard drives online as if I were buying a new one, they seem to have different stats. such as the operating system requirements being 10.13 for the 2013, while I have 10.8 on the computer it will be installed in. Because they will be getting it from someone else as a favor, I don't want to make them go through the hassle if it will not work. Thank you. [link] [comments]  |

So I deleted over 60 GB worth of files and made sure the trash was empty. For some reason my mac still thinks it has only 300 MB available and I'm not sure why. Posted: 06 Apr 2018 09:27 PM PDT I used to have it set up so that if all files in a folder had a 'Yellow' colour tag, then it would add a tag to the parent folder saying 'checked'. | Posted: 06 Apr 2018 05:09 PM PDT I dropped my iPhone 6 into a sink and immediately take it out. Water was very shallow and the phone still works for days afterwards without issue (headphone jack & speaker also work perfectly). However, when I try to charge it yesterday, I got a warning that the cable I was using authentic and the phone won't charge. Tried different cable, adapter, and outlet known to work in the past but still nothing. How could I fix this? I assume it's something with the charging port since the phone works fine before the battery ran out. Then again, I haven't replaced the battery for 2 years now and have been getting reboots for months, so maybe it's the battery instead. Any suggestions? How much would repair costs if I need it? | My iPhone 5S keeps heating up. Posted: 06 Apr 2018 08:42 PM PDT So I have a two-year-old iPhone 5S and recently it has been getting really hot, no matter what I'm doing with it (though it does seem to get hotter faster when I'm running a game). I googled it and pretty much everything said to update the iOS, which I hadn't done in a while, so I updated it but it doesn't seem to have solved the problem because the phone is still getting hot. Most forums seemed in agreement that heating problems are usually linked to software as opposed to hardware, so is there another sort of software fix I could try? Or is there some setting that might be on that should be turned off to keep the phone from heating up? It's never overheated or turned off because of heat, but I need the phone to last as long as possible so I'm concerned. I have also taken to leaving the Otterbox off of it just to let it ventilate more, which opens up a whole new can of worms since it is then more vulnerable to shattering if dropped. | iPhone 6 plus suddenly won't turn on! Yikes! Posted: 06 Apr 2018 07:54 PM PDT First of all I am only medium "techy". I bought it in late 2014 so it's a little over 3 years old. I have never dropped it any worse than it sliding off a chair to the carpeted/padded floor--and that's been not much more than 4 times since I got it. The last time that happened is over a year ago. (Dropping it is the only thing I can thing of that might make it not come on.) What I did when it wouldn't turn on just now: I pressed the "home" button several more times, a couple of which were a longer hold. I held down the on/off button on the off chance it had turned itself off. I plugged it in to charge, even though it was at 97% charge about 1/2 hour ago. Does anyone have some other idea? | appid where applications used to be, taking up GBs of space Posted: 06 Apr 2018 07:00 PM PDT So I'm clearing some clutter from my MacBook Pro 2015, and I've deleted a few games. Unfortunately, they seem to still be in my system, under a different name, still taking up GBs of space. In System Information, such names are appid_8000, appid_24453, etc. There is no delete option and there doesnt appear to be anything in the directory. Is there any way to clear this space? The device is already activated and seems to work fine. I have reactivated several times and had no problems. Sometimes, we get a hodgepodge of Apple laptops and desktops and 3rd party marketplaces (such as eBay, Amazon, or NewEgg) typically require a 'Manufacturer's Part Number' to identify the product you're trying to sell. Apple's 'Manufacturer's Part Number' is called an Order Number, but according to EveryMac.com, it's not listed on the hardware itself, nor is it shown in the 'About This Mac' section of macOS. It's apparently only listed on a receipt or packaging. Is there any possible way to figure out the Order Number without going through the tedious process of searching serial numbers on Apple's website and making educated guesses or digging around on EveryMac.com? | Want to mirror iPad to projector wirelessly - CAN'T use Apple TV Posted: 06 Apr 2018 11:24 AM PDT I have an iPad Pro and I want to mirror it to projector in my classroom to allow me to be mobile with it. I can't use an Apple TV because it requires being on the same wifi network and my school only has a password login type wifi which doesn't work for the tv. Technically they have a network that doesn't have a password that I could use to connect my Apple TV to, but then the iPad can't be on that same network, so it won't work for mirroring. Have closed and opened iTunes multiple times. A quick google shows so many people having this issue. How does something so basic not function for so many people? | Iphone 5s won't connect to internet Posted: 06 Apr 2018 04:57 PM PDT So, im about to go to sleep because my head is about to explode. but if anyone could help i would be most grateful. Since i connected to the wifi at my work (7 hours ago), my iphone is showing me that it is connected, but i have no connection. every other device i have works (s6, macbook, tablet). ive tried everything apart from factory reset because i have too many files i dont want to lose. bluetoothing the files to my laptop wont work because

| Posted: 06 Apr 2018 12:09 PM PDT I have a late 2011 13 inch macbook pro which hasnt shown any problems since a few months ago.I was going to replace the battery since its on its last breath(cycle count 890) the reason i havent is because even though it does charge if for any reason i disconnect the charger from the mac it doesnt charge again. I have to wait with the charger unplugged from any sockets(anywhere from under a day to a week) would replacing the battery solve this or would i be wasting my money Edit:after further inspection it doesnt even need to be unplugged just disturbed and after it does stop charging the mac powers down (doesnt go through any power off sequence just dies) [link] [comments]  |

| My MacBook Pro's backlight isn't working after updating to High Sierra Posted: 06 Apr 2018 05:56 AM PDT I've been fighting with my laptop for the past two days thinking it wasn't turning on, but it turns out it's working just fine other than the backlight not coming on. There was nothing wrong with the backlight up until the computer restarted for the High Sierra update. The brightness keys don't do anything, not even show the little popup telling you how high your brightness level is. I've restarted the computer, reset the PRAM, reset the SMC, pressed FN along with F1/F2, went through the settings with a flashlight right up to the screen, sworn at it, and nothing has fixed it. | Posted: 06 Apr 2018 09:11 AM PDT Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is the right sub to post in, but for about a week now, I've been having an issue where my badges for my iMessages won't show up. I am using an iPhone 6 on 11.3 and I've already tried turning off the notifications, turning off the badges itself, and turning off badges and restarting my phone and nothing works. The only thing that has worked is resetting my settings. Even then, after a few hours I am having the issue again. I've already been in contact with Apple and they told me to wait and keep updating my device as the fix will most likely be in an update. I really don't want to wipe my phone.
