Posted: 31 Mar 2018 10:03 PM PDT Please help me to figure out the following: I have the chance to get a mid 2017 15" 2,8Ghz, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD Macbook Pro for about 2300 dollars. The machine is 2 months old, used a bit, battery cycle count is 3 and warranty lasts until January 2019. I am a bit wary of the keyboard on that machine though. I've tried it in the store, I can live with it, but compared to a loaner late 2015 15" MBP it's a downstep obviously. The question I have, should I go for it or wait for the possible upgrades that could come in WWDC? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2018 05:43 PM PDT Hello! Would a 2017 13 inch MacBook Pro (mid spec) be snappy and quick in day to day use? How would it compare to my current med-low end gaming pc in responsiveness? I am really paranoid in buying this, as my last Mac (2013 iMac) was terribly slow right out of the box. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2018 10:11 AM PDT So I recently got my older brothers Macbook Air (13in, Early 2015) 1.6 GHz Intel core i5, 4gb 1600MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 mb. On OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 I have never used Apple products so this is all new. I know these are not meant for games, but are there any games that do run well on it? And are there any ways to improve the hardware that don't break the bank? Also I have hear of the new OS High Sierra, which I would need to backup my laptop to upgrade too, which needs an airport apparently. Is it worth it to update to Sierra? Also any good beginning tips or programs you found useful? (I am also a sophomore in college) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2018 04:04 AM PDT Am on my 2nd macbook 12 now. My first was a gold 2016 model and my current is 2017 model. On both laptops and on all versions of macos from Sierra to High Sierra have noticed that more often than not when you begin to type in any field in the safari browser, it glitches and constantly over types the first character until you physically click on the field you are typing in and then proceed to type. It doesn't happen in any other installed browsers and doesnt happen on the Macbook Pro either To summarise this seems to be an over Typing issue with Macbook 12 models within Safari Anyone else observed this behaviour? 2011 Macbook Pro GPU - BlueScreen / GrayScreen Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:41 AM PDT MacBook 2011 with defect GPU. Is there a Linux Distro that someone already has deactivated the GPU for install and use? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:05 AM PDT Got a MacBook Pro as a surprise recently. I loved the one I had back in 2012, but time and kids (mostly) took it to its grave. To my dismay this didn't come with a disc drive or USB ports. I bought the adaptor, but am now researching disc drives. On the Apple site their product has been trashed in reviews so I'm staying clear of it. My hope is that someone here can recommend a decent disc drive, preferring that they have used, for ripping CD's and watching movies from DVDs. Blu Ray option would be a plus. Thanks for any assistance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Mar 2018 12:17 PM PDT I've been using Apple products exclusively for the last 10 years for academic purposes, and the 2017 Macbook Pro (15 inch) has got to be the worst laptop they've made. For students considering this model of MBP for school, I would highly advise choosing another laptop for a fraction of the cost. I've run into numerous issues with keys sticking, keys being unresponsive, or double typing issues. I took my laptop to the Genius bar, and was advised by the tech that this is a "known issue" among the technicians, but has not been formally documented yet. The adviser mentioned how Apple is supposed to address this keyboard issue on the next generation MBP. Not sure where that leaves us current users who shelled out $$$ for the 2016 or 2017 MBP. The suggested repair options included 3-5 biz days for them to "clean" the keyboard, after which they'll require another 3-5 biz days if the top case needs to be replaced. Thus, for students looking to purchase this laptop, you run the high risk of being without a laptop for several days while Apple removes dust from your keyboard. Do not expect reasonable alternatives by the Genius bar (they've suggested using dictation software or the on-screen keyboard if you cannot be without a computer during the school year). Other issues include the trackpad becoming locked after waking up the computer, screen flickering, and random shutdowns. I recognize there are many 2016/2017 MBPs out there that work perfectly fine, but I felt compelled to post this for students/others who are considering this laptop, and must have their laptop working at all times (i.e. for school/work). You run a high risk of keyboard issues with the 2017 MBP, and after the 14 days return period, you will be without your laptop if you want it fixed by Apple. Such a fundamental component of a laptop riddled with a huge design flaw. Steve Jobs would be so disappointed. [link] [comments] |
