Just Finished FF15 PE. My Thoughts. Posted: 11 Feb 2018 04:39 PM PST As the title says, I just finished Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition. I just wanted to give everyone my (spoiler free) thoughts, in case you are a JRPG fan and are on the fence about this game. Disclosure: I have not played the actual game since I do not own a PS4 or XBox. That being said, after playing the pocket edition, I might pick up the game when it releases for Windows. Background: I have played through all the Final Fantasy ports on iOS (1-7, 9, and Tactics) and loved all of them. I really enjoy JRPGs, and have played most of the ports before they were ported. I just love having a good JRPG to play on mobile. Likes:
Now on to the dislikes. One of the main thing that I love about Final Fantasy games is the exploration of side areas, or completion of side quests, to obtain totally awesome loot / abilities. Sadly, this game has none of that. Besides collecting some cactuar statues in cities (and maybe a side quest here or there), there is virtually nothing to do except to move the story along. Essentially, this is an "RPG on rails". 99% of the non-combat related items you find on the ground are only good for one thing, and one thing only, selling to a vendor for gil. In fact, this is the only way you acquire gil in this game. You just push the story along and buy new weapons in each "town". I knew going into this game that the combat was more like an ARPG, and I was okay with that. For the first few hours, it was actually very enjoyable. But at no point did the game become a challenge. The way the game makes a fight hard is by giving your target a ridiculous level of health. In the later stages, I found myself quite bored with the combat. I never found a use for a Hi-Potion, Phoenix Down, Remedy, Ether, or Mega Potion since you can just use regular Potions whenever the hell you want (with no draw back)! Speaking of combat... where are the spells? As I mentioned above, I have not played the console version of the game, but in this version, the spells are extremely lacking! You will periodically come across nodes where you can extract the power of that element. When I first came across one, I thought this was how you learned spells to cast in combat. I was right, but also very wrong. This extraction is good for only one cast in combat, and you can't have multiples. For example, if you extract the power of fire and don't use it by the time you find a node for the power of ice, you just removed your ability to cast your fire spell. Also, from what I could tell, if some major cut-scene happens, or you change areas, you lose your currently stored spell. I love the powerful spells in traditional Final Fantasy games, and this "feature" left me very sad. EDIT: Also, you can't manually save. Conclusion: The game was enjoyable, but calling it a Final Fantasy game feels like an insult to Final Fantasy games. Do I regret my purchase? No. If anything, I hope it shows Square Enix that people are willing to pay money for premium games. I have no idea how long the game took me to complete, since the game doesn't give you a running log of your time in your save file. That being said, I would say that the game took somewhere between 15-20 hours to complete, and that's being generous. TL;DR: Good story (RPG on rails), combat gets repetitive and not challenging, (virtually) no side quests / areas, no regrets. [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 Feb 2018 08:03 PM PST Just bought a Gamevice, and the triggers are terrible like lot of reviews say. Does this affect every device? I really want to use this controller but it's unusable if I can't count on trigger presses registering. [link] [comments]
Help me with my MFi controller issue! ... thanks! :) Posted: 11 Feb 2018 07:56 PM PST Ok. So I have a SteelSeries Nimbus. It's amazing. Love it. The issue is that I want a better way to hold my phone closer to my eyes. Yes, I have the clip everyone talks about to mount the phone to the controller. And that works great for when I'm sitting down playing. But I play mostly laying down next to my wife. It's hard to play with arms extended straight up. My ideal solution would be something like one of those VR/GoogleCardboard things but works on normal apps not VR apps. Yes I've seen those bendable wire ones that go around your neck. I'm trying hard to avoid that silliness, as I would never hear the end of it from my wife. But if I need it, I'll endure :) Thanks for the suggestions ahead of time! [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Feb 2018 09:09 PM PST I'm not sure how many of you may have played Shadow Cities. It didn't seem like it had a huge population. But it was by far my favorite game on iOS. It shut down a few years ago. For those who didn't play but know current iOS games, it was open world and GPS based. Very similar to PokemonGo/Ingress. 2 factions fight for control of the world. The difference was in the combat/mechanics. Combat was real time and you used spells by drawing shapes. Similar to that one RPG everyone loves here; Minions and Mages or something. It blows Pokémon go and ingress away because of the ability to move by teleporting to things you can see. I'm big Cities like San Francisco it was amazing because you could get practically anywhere. You could get to big cities by using other players beacons which allowed friends to teleport to them anywhere in the world. The aspects I'm looking for are:
Anyway that was a long description but maybe someone can find a game that has some of the aspects :( Thanks guys and gals! [link] [comments]

Looking for a puzzle game similar to Pixelgrams Posted: 11 Feb 2018 10:08 PM PST For those of you who haven't played it, it's a jigsaw-styled puzzle game. Just looking for something similar. [link] [comments]
Anyone remember DOT: Defender of Texel? Posted: 11 Feb 2018 08:52 PM PST This was an old favorite of mine and I haven't seen any games come close to the type of gameplay it had. Has anyone found anything similar? [link] [comments]
Looking for good 3D story games Posted: 11 Feb 2018 10:12 AM PST I'm looking for a good immersive 3D game with a good story and where you get to travel around the game world completing quests and progressing through the story. I'm thinking games like Zelda:Majoras Mask, Final Fantasy XV, ect. [link] [comments] |
