I think it's still the most "tap accurate" one out there.

Obviously if you're texting at the stoplight 👀it's not the fastest but I find that a lot of the alternative ones are still too buggy or too off for consistent use.

How do I set up a Mac ecosystem on a sailboat to stream movies and music to iPads in each berth?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:45 PM PST

Power consumption is a major concern on boats. We also spend significant time away from any internet connection. I need wifi onboard to connect an iPad to autopilot, radar and the boats systems. At that point, is it possible to use an Airport Extreme with a 2TB HD for backup (used to back up my MBP) with attached USB 2TB Drive for media (movies & music). The idea is that each berth (bedroom) has a 12.9" iPad Pro rather than a power hungry TV that can stream movies and music from the Airport Extreme accessing the library stored on the USB drive. Is there a way to do this using Apple products? Thanks.

Macbook Pro Touch ID vs no Touch ID

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 05:33 PM PST

I am going to buy a Macbook Pro, however I still can't rationalise the additional cost for the Touch ID version. The CPU and GPU are better, however still I didn't feel a big performance gap between each other at the Apple Store.

I use Slack, Evernote, Mail, Safari with 6-7 tabs open, WhatsApp, Skype and Word at the same time. These are not processing heavy software.

Will it worth to pay extra for the Touch ID version?

    Worst service I've received.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 12:50 PM PST

I need to start saying that English is not my mother language and sorry in advance for any spells that I may have and sorry for the post being so long.

I'm the owner of a MacBook Pro 15'' early 2013, this computer is a beast, Apple truly made this laptop a ''Pro'' machine and me being a ''die hard Apple fan'' decided to get one for my studies and work (software engineer student here) because the hardware-software relationship is one among the best, and over that, I was slowly building the Apple ecosystem; the last product I acquired was the AirPods (best purchase of last year) that just worked like magic with my iPhone and MacBook. This was before the service I got from Apple, the worst I ever got from any company and one that I didn't expect from a trillion dollar company like Apple.

This all started on September 25th were my laptop woke up like this out of nowhere, because I've never spilled a liquid over it and I've never dropped the machine to the floor. I was devastated to see my lovely laptop, who was already giving some problems like freezes, unexpected shutdowns, bad battery, etc... come to an end and me being a person who saved A TON OF MONEY to get this computer was scared because I don't have the amount of money to get another MacBook Pro so what the f*** was I going to do now? Oh well... I go to the nearest Authorized reseller (there is no Apple on my country) and explain the problem to them and they told me that my model has a recall program so my MacBook Pro who was obviously out of warranty could be saved by this miraculously Apple movement. I was HAPPY because I don't have the sufficient money at the moment to buy the repair of the Mac (~US$700 here) or just get a new one, and they gave me a chance to give this machine a couple more years! At this point everything was fine. September 25th, 2017.

Here is were the problem started happening: 2 months passes by and there is no news of the machine, no call, no emails, no nothing... I went to the store maybe 2 or 3 times in those 2 months because I didn't want to give them pressure since this was all free, but they just told me everytime that ''Apple was cancelling the shipping of the part''. Yeah this sounds weird, doesn't it? But hey it's ok I will just wait since I didn't need the machine too fast at that time. Ok, so after those 2 months were the last time I went to the store and they just handed me the broken machine saying ''sorry but Apple rejected the fix for your Mac but you could pay us ~US$700 to fix it''... they even made me pay them US$30 ''so they can check my mac''. I leave the store angry as fuck. November 17th, 2017.

This is where I call Apple service throught Skype and explained my problem, the girl scaled my problem instantly to a main advisor, he made me explain some little details about my experience with the shop and told me that they will hand me a Client Satisfaction Code (CS Code)... basically they will fix the problem free of charge. He was really nice, his voice was nice and he really delivered a solution (this process was *~1 hour** in call). Oh, yeah! I told him that I would like a change of were I will get my laptop fixed, another Athorized reseller near my workplace. I was happy again at this point. *November 18th, 2017.

It's december and yet my macbook is still on the shop being repared, shit, did I go to that shop weekly, but the technician that was in charge of my case was REAL NICE with me and explained me the problems and why the wait is long with no tricks, just plain and simple. I keep waiting because ''shit I'm getting my laptop fixed free of charge! And the technician is a good guy so I will have patience with him'', at this point there is 3 months since the first problem, I'm desesperate now because I NEED my laptop but still... let's just wait. December 3th, 2017.

This is were the things are getting out of control: the problem is that Apple doesn't have parts for my specific model so that's why I'm getting such of a waiting time. One day I went to the store and hear two guys talking about some models of MacBooks not getting parts till february, so I got pissed and call again to Apple explaining them that they are taking too long for a service... the guy who helped me on phone was really unprofessional with me, talking to me like he really don't care about my problem and told me a lie saying that he contacted the store, blah blah blah, and that he ''put my service on priority'' and that I will receive my machine on that week. January 6th, 2018.

Yeah, the week pass by and still, no MacBook. I called the store and they told me that the part didn't ship yet. I'm pissed... like, REAL PISSED. I NEED MY MACHINE! January just started and I need where to work with the start of the new year... University just started and I don't have were to study! I can't do anything without my personal computer! So I decided to call again Apple and let them know my disappointment, so I called and they automaticly transfer my call to a main advisor. He told me that for the inconvenience and the wait, they will give me a replacement and he even told me that after 14 days of delay on a repair, I can get a replacement so that was weird this wait time and weird that I didn't got a replacement yet, then he told me that he will fill the formulary for the replacement but then he told me that he needed to contact the store AGAIN. After he contacted the store, he told me that in that week they will have the piece and that he can't fill the formulary for a replacement because the part will just arrive first so that I need to keep waiting but not that long. We end up the call after he told me that ''if this week the part didn't arrive, then he will proceed with the replacement''. January 17th, 2018.

The week passes by AGAIN and I proceed to call... I didn't got to comunicate with the previous guy again so I started explaining everything again to a new main advisor, a story that everytime I call I need to explain more and more, and I demand a replacement right away since they just doesn't have parts for my model, he told me that he will give me a replacement and gave me all the different type of ''sorry'' that you can imagine; I was a little bit happy again but not at all since I don't trust any of the words they say now after all this lies they have told me just so I keep waiting. We end up the call with the promise that he will be calling me again so he can take some of personal information to sent me the new replacement. That same day, 4 hours later he called me asking for some information, he even got my address. I have to admit that I was starting to believe now that this was the end of this nightmare, ALELUYA! January 29th, 2018.

2 days later he called me again, I thought that this was the final call saying that my replacement has been approved, so I take the incoming call. NOPE! He started to tell me that my replacement was rejected because my MacBook Pro was 4 years old... Surprise for me! Another new policy out of nowhere that no one ever told me! I started arguing with him for such awful service that I've received and asking him why no advisor told me about that policy since everybody knows that my MacBook Pro is from early 2013. He promise me that he will try to get an exception to this policy since I've so much time waiting for it (4 months at this point) and I've received such bad service from Apple in general. We end the call after he told me that he will be calling on sunday of that same week to give me an update of what we will do. January 31th, 2018.

Yesterday, I called again and they put me on call with a different advisor, I explain the problem and he scale the probem again, this time to a department called ''Client relationship'', I see a progress this time, I've never spoke to someone on that department, I explain the problem to this new guy, and he proceeds to call the store with no success, and then he told me that he will call me after he reach the store to listen to what they will say about my case, I agree with him since ''this is some new level of service to more specific clients'' right? He ensure me that we will solve this case as soon as possible and we end up the call. February 11th, 2018.

Today, he call me and sadly the call end up out of nowhere as he speak, I wait some minutes to see if he calls back and of course he didn't, then I proceed to call myself via Skype and after one hour I reach him out luckily. He talked to me like if I'm shit, like he was a robot, like if my case was nothing but on my imagination, and he just say that ''I need to wait to the part to be ship, maybe 2 weeks or so''... I was pissed because the department was about the client and he didn't do anything, absolutely anything. This is what made me type my experience here on Reddit so that you know what kind of service some people are getting. February 12th, 2018.

    The End of the story.

    Some clarifications:

    • All this was in Spanish, I just translated all of this to English for you guys.
    • I noted all the relevance calls I made, but there was more than 10 calls.
    • Every call to Apple has duration of ~1h. Waste of time.
    • I've never disrespected any of the guys at customer service, always being polite.
    • The original problem of the machine wasn't my fault.
    • Some employees were excelent in their service, the first one and the penultimate one to be specific.
    • I'm not telling their names since I don't want to compromise their jobs, but I do have all the record in my email.

And there is my experience to this days of what is happening and how they are treating me as their client. I'm tired of their lies to me so I keep waiting and waiting, I'm tired of false promises about calling me, updating me in the case, or sending me emails, because no one have do it. I hope to get some advice from you guys and I hope that this story get to the hands of some Apple employee and help me with my case, I'm desesperate.

TL;DR: I have 136 days waiting for a replacement/repair of a MacBook Pro, liying to me and telling me a bunch of different stories so I keep waiting for a part that doesn't exist. I've been polite everytime I call them and they just treat me like they don't care.

    Considering Apple Music

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 07:47 PM PST

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a Subscription, but I'm trying to avoid another monthly payment. Does Apple still offer a yearly one-time payment option? I can't seem to find any info on their website, but I thought I recently saw 1 year Apple Music gift cards available at Target.

Also, does the service include iTunes Match for all of my music not available in the Apple Music catalogue?

Thanks in advance for your comments/assistance.

Is it just me or are the media buttons in Control Center too small to hit accurately? I always end up skipping when I just want to pause.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:43 AM PST

I don't have huge fingers. I do however have an SE, but that doesn't mean this should be a problem. I never have problems tapping things besides these media buttons.

“Text Dad” sends text message to no one. “Message Dad” gives same result

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 06:36 PM PST

So I've just grown to live with this but I'm tired of it. I have my dad listed as Dad in my phone. I say, "hey Siri, text (insert anyone) and they all get an iMessage from me. But when I try for my dad, it sends it to a contact that looks just like his, but it's a text and he never gets it. He uses iMessage and when I'm doing it without Siri it works just fine. He's the only Dad listed in my phone. Anyone know what's happening?

Student Teacher here: How Can I wirelessly cast my MacBook to a projector?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 04:18 PM PST

The classroom where I student teach every day has an Epson projector (Idk what model but it's newer rather than older). The current setup is that I run an HDMI from the projector into my MacBook. The only issue is that I'm trying to cut down on wires. What's the best way to go about this? Someone suggested Chromecast but is that supported with Apple? What are some recommendations? My ideal goal is to be able to switch screens while doing it so I can project something while working on something else in front of my students. But a simple screen mirror works well too!

My front door lock (weiser premis) much more reliable using HomePod as hub

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 10:32 PM PST

So before HomePod, using ATV4K as hub, my front door lock would maybe work 1/3 of the time... to the point where I pretty much gave up on a smart lock. With HomePod as home hub, it's gotten to be ~95%. Anyone else see an uptick?

    [Request] Family sharing update

    Posted: 12 Feb 2018 10:09 AM PST

I wish Apple would implement a way for family sharing members to know when an app has already been purchased. As it is you have to go through the entire process before you finally get a notification telling you that the app has already been purchased and you won't be charged. But up that point you think you are about to get charged.
