| New Plex server update now supports HDR playback on ATV4K? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 01:50 PM PST Updated my Plex server to 1.11.3.4803 this morning. Frame rate matching on the ATV4K seems to work with everything now (direct stream MKVs, even files that are transcoding except for live TV).
Plex shows that 4K HDR MKVs are Direct Streaming on my ATV4K, Anyone have any luck getting it to work correctly? EDIT: Okay I got the video to display and it is indeed playing in HDR. Yay. However I'm getting no audio and the swipe down menu doesn't have any info or chapters, just the useless subtitle and audio tabs. EDIT 2: I got audio working but so far only if the audio track is not Dolby Atmos. DTS tracks and non-Atmos Dolby tracks appear to work fine. [link] [comments]  | ||

| Issues launching the App Store Posted: 19 Feb 2018 11:12 AM PST Whenever I try to launch the App Store on my Apple TV (4th gen), I cant get passed the "Welcome to the App Store" screen. No matter how many times I tap "continue" either with the remote or remote app on my iPhone, I can't get to the App Store. I've tried resetting the Apple TV back to factory settings and still no luck. Every other app works fine. Has anyone else had this issue? [link] [comments]  | ||
| Apple TV Sound but No Picture (Was Fine) Posted: 19 Feb 2018 06:04 PM PST We just bought a new Apple TV (black remote). Guy at store made a strong statement that we will need a high quality HDMI cable. Hooked it up to Sony TV using existing cable. 4K HDR came through no problem for a few days, then suddenly we had sound but no picture. Did cable test, and said it was fine. Switched cables and ports and even did factory reset. Some combination and it came back. Ran fine (4K HDR) for a few days. Stopped working. Used the cord from the PS4 Pro. Ran fine. Stopped working. Bought new ultra cinema whatever cords (three of them) from Amazon. Ran fine. Stopped working. Put on the old Xbox 360 cord. Ran fine. Has now stopped working. Each time it plays 4K HDR perfectly for days, then stops. Just sound; no picture. Same on various TV ports including the PS4 Pro 's port which also plays 4K HDR without issue. Forced the Apple TV into 1080 SDR mode. Same issue. Do I just happen to have five bad cords ( two legacy and three brand new) or is the Apple TV bad. I've never talked to Apple about an issue before; afraid they're going to pass the buck to cord or TV even though the PS4 Pro has zero issues. Thoughts? [link] [comments]  | ||

I don't even know what the ATV 3 has anymore. The main difference between the 3&4 is the app store and resolution right? Does the 3 have DIRECTVNOW, Netflix , Hulu?? Posted: 19 Feb 2018 11:03 AM PST I'm a tech coordinator for a small rural K-12 school, and I bought some apps from Apple's Volume Purchase Program (VPP) to try out on our school iPad's last year with my personal account. Recently I've been thinking of buying some Apple TV's for some of our more tech-friendly teachers, but it doesn't seem like these purchased apps work on them. They were redeemed with codes and not through an MDM solution, and the VPP page for the apps say they should work on Apple TVs yet they don't. Has anyone else run across this problem too? | Posted: 19 Feb 2018 09:27 AM PST First, some equipment specs. Apple TV 4k, iPhone 8 running 11.2.5 So. Recently my Apple TV remote app can't find my Apple TV. I'll try deleting it then re-adding, but once it adds, the app crashes. I've tried resetting both devices but still have the issue. Also tried uninstalling then reinstalling the app. Any ideas? | Posted: 19 Feb 2018 06:04 AM PST I've recently bought an Appletv 4k and have a quick question regarding sleep mode. I've noticed it auto turns my TV off which is nice but does it automatically go into sleep mode after inactivity too? When i manually put it into sleep mode the home screen appears but if left until the screen turns off, it will be on the same screen or app it was. Is there a setting to enable sleep mode automatically after a certain amount of time if this just powers off the screen but leaves the apple tv still running? [link] [comments]  | ||

Posted: 19 Feb 2018 11:26 AM PST Sorry in advance if this has been covered- This may be a very obvious answer, but I have an LG 4K HDR Smart TV and the internal streaming (even at 1080) directly from my tv is significantly better quality than from my ATV gen 3. On my old 1080p Vizio TV, I never noticed the crazy blockiness of the blacks or extreme banding of colors like I do now with my new LG 4K tv. I don't get all the apps on the LG smart tv that I would like, like HBO Go, etc (though I have the basics of Hulu, Netflix, and Prime), and I much prefer the UI of apple, so I'm still interested in upgrading to ATV4K. Does anyone know if these noise and banding issues would go away with the ATV4K? Would it be less lossy or compressed? I can try to provide pictures if it helps. But it is definitely the ATV. I was able to switch back and forth between the Smart TV Netflix and ATV Netflix, and there was a significant difference, with the picture settings being identical. Any ideas? [link] [comments]  | ||

| Posted: 19 Feb 2018 07:19 AM PST Hi guys, is there a way to be notified when a movie becomes available to watch through an application I already have. For example, I would like to watch Blade Runner 2049 but I do not want to buy it or rent it through iTunes. However, I would like it to be added as an Up Next to watch in my TV app when for example it is added to HBO or Hulu Apps ? I doubt this is possible but never know :) [link] [comments]  |
