Replace Siri with Google Assistant? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 02:31 PM PST Is it possible to replace Siri with Google Assistant? I've seen MacAssistant but it doesnt seem to work with the latest MacOS update. Not to offend anyone but Siri is trash. Definitely not as flexible as my Google Assistant or Amazons Alexis. Brand new MBA (Granted its a 2017), Question about temperatures. Posted: 17 Feb 2018 09:06 PM PST Hi everyone! I recently got a Macbook air i5 from 2017 as a laptop to use when away from home. My main desktop is a pretty decent gaming rig so I am not expecting to game or anything on this laptop, however, I downloaded racing rivals after a couple of hours because I was bored while working the nightshift. After about 5 minutes of playing the fan was going banans and the computer was very hot. What I did was download iStat to monitor the temperatures and noticed I was around 80c. My first reaction was that I find it wierd how a phone (I have a Galaxy S8 and a buddy has iPhone 6s) or a tablet (I have an iPad mini gen 2) can run a mobile game better than a PC from 2017. I tried playing a bit of Telltale Walking dead and had the same temps and a loud ass fan. No problem but I wanted to see what my idle temps were. So I had about 60c for a while with only chrome running and the computer charging. after about 10 more minutes the temps were down to 50c, still charging. So I decided to try something since I was getting close to full on battery, so I closed the lid and let the computer go to sleep and removed the charger. After about 10 minutes I opened the lid and when straight to the sensor readings. The first 1 minute my temps were at 30c and after 5 minutes it was up to 40c. Since then, I am steady around 42-44c and the charger is not plugged in. If I plug in the charger however I can see the temperatures rising again. My question is - Is this normal and acceptable idle temps? 42-44 without charger plugged in and 47-50 with a charger? Sincerely - a Macbook noob. [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Feb 2018 11:40 AM PST Considering a refurb Macbook PRO 2017 and have the options to choose between 16 gb/128 gb and 8gb/256gb. Does getting extra ram future proof the machine? Or for someone like me into moderate picture and video editing, a bigger hard disk will eliminate the need for buying traditional external hard disks. Please guide. [link] [comments]

I'm considering switching from a PC to a Mac... which Mac should I buy if I choose to do so? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 01:36 PM PST I intern for the city in my hometown. The IT guy has a MAC and he spent about 30 minutes the other day showing me his Macbook pro, and trying to convince me to get a Macbook pro. I've always been used to having a PC, but now I'm interested in getting a MAC because they have so many different features, but I'm also concerned because I've never used a MAC much more than 5 minutes, so I'm not sure how entirely different they are. Is it worth the cost? Also, since I'm considering it I've been looking at a Macbook pro/Macbook/Macbook air. I'm concerned about the price, but I've been finding some decent deals on the air at least. However, part of me wants to get the pro because it looks like a great laptop, and It would be worth the money if I do get a pro. Which one should I get? it would be for basic browsing, possibly Photoshop and other projects. [link] [comments]
MBPr 2012 Geforce 650M underperforming [Heaven Benchmark] Posted: 17 Feb 2018 09:29 AM PST Guys, I own this MBP retina since mid-2012. It was the top of the line of that time: Core i7 2,6ghz, 16gb ram, 512GB SSD and a dedicated Geforce 650M. Recently I felt that the Geforce dropped significantly in performance. I tried to play a simple 2012 game and with every spec in low I could only get 8 FPS... I run a Heaven Benchmark (Basic Setting, windowed 1280x720, AAx2) and only got 16 FPS average. If you have a similar Macbook, do you mind to post your results here? Benchmark site: https://benchmark.unigine.com/heaven If my GPU is indeed underperforming, there is anything I could do? I'm currently using MacOS High Sierra with everything up-to-date. Thanks [link] [comments] |
