Why is printing on my MacBook Pro (Late-2017 model) so slow?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2018 10:32 PM PST

I realized that printing on the Mac OS seems to be slower than printing on Windows. It took me 30 seconds to print a 15-page document on my windows PC but it took me 3 minutes to do it on my MacBook Pro. Are there any ways I can make my printing faster on the Mac OS?

13' Macbook pro 16gb ram, daily tasks and music recording.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2018 10:24 PM PST

I'm looking to buy a new computer and I;m considering buying a Macbook because everyone I've ever known who had a Macbook never had issues with them. I know they're known for lasting for ever. I want something that I can use for everyday tasks, record my acoustic guitar with some digital drums and such, and go well with my iPhone and Watch. I've been thinking Macbook, I'm brand new to these things, I'm completely lost when using the MacOS and looking at the specs. They look so weak compared to other laptops, but so do the iPhones and mine has never slowed down on me. I'm just wondering if anyone who has the 13' Macbook Pro has had any issues recording and editing music on it. That's going to be the most taxing thing I do on it. I'd like to get the 15' Pro, but the price.. I don't get a lot of money for myself, I'm basically buying this with my tax return and profit sharing from work. I considered building an incredibly powerful desktop, but I want a laptop, I do most of my gaming on my PS4 anymore. Only things like Civ, 7 Days to Die, and Rust are computer only. Will I be set with the 13', or should I save for another three or four months to get the 15'? Thanks for any input.

    Using a non apple keyboard?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2018 04:54 PM PST

Might be the wrong place to ask, if it is can somebody inform me where I should be posting this? Thanks!

The question is for people who use a normal "windows keyboard" for working with Mac OS X.

I have my MacBook hooked up to an external monitor for when I am not in school and basically I'm looking for a bluetooth keyboard.

The 60% bluetooth Apple keyboard is apparently too small for my hands (at least I feel like its cramped and I normally mess up typing with it). I enjoyed the full size Apple keyboard (with the number keys) but it was wired and theres no way I can afford the bluetooth version (especially in Canada).

I was wondering for those of you who use a "windows keyboard" 60% or full size, is it much different from using a dedicated Apple one in your opinion? My worry is not being able to adjust from the keys doing different functions in Windows vs. OS X.

    Thanks!

    memory upgrade, a little confused

    Posted: 19 Jan 2018 04:41 PM PST

I have a 2012 macbook pro and I'm wanting to upgrade the ram. I currently have 4gb. I've read two different things about the max amount I can upgrade. Once things says I can upgrade to 8gb but another says 16gb.

So how do I know which is right? As long as the physical memory is the same size does it matter weather I get 2-4gb sticks or 2-8gb sticks?

    Thanks in advance.

How many repairs/issues on MacBook Pro before Exchange or Refund

    Posted: 19 Jan 2018 07:57 PM PST

    Hi Community,

I own a 2016 MacBook Pro 15inch with 2.8Ghz CPU, 16GB RAM, 1TB Storage and 460DGPU, and almost fully speced out MacBook Pro, currently on the latest MacOS High Sierra version as of 01/19/2018.

Since November 2017, I have had 5 issues with this laptop: Speaker failure, Keyboard noise, Hinge noise, Popping noise, and speaker issues once again. I have taken this laptop into the laptop a total of three times in three months. Due to the issues mentioned, It has led me to believe that this laptop is a "lemon" and has lost my confidence. I requested a refund or exchange at the apple store in my area (Miami - Dadeland Apple) and I was told by the senior manager at the store that my current situation is not cause enough to warrant a refund or exchange at this time. After this response, I asked what would warrant a refund, and was given a non clear answer: "it depends on the situation"

My question to the community is to hear what you think of this situation, and to ask anyone at apple, what would have to happen for me to obtain a refund or exchange for this laptop.

    Best.

Pristine 2006 black MacBook already showing wear on top case edges :(

    Posted: 19 Jan 2018 07:04 PM PST

I managed to come across an absolutely pristine black MacBook, and it's already showing edge wear on the top case where cracks commonly happen, leading to pieces of plastic falling off.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to preserve the top case? I've looked around online but haven't found anything, and it looks like top cases are becoming harder and harder to find - cheapest on eBay is $100 right now.

    Thanks!

spilled beer on my mbp keyboard

    Posted: 19 Jan 2018 01:08 PM PST

I accidentally spilled some beer (not a whole lot, about half a shot glass worth) on the right side of my 2016 mbp keyboard. Immediately after, i tried to wipe it down with paper towels, and then I used moist and dry microfiber cloths to try to clean out the keys as best as I could. All the keys are fine the day after, except the enter key, while still works but feels less clicky now, like it has a shorter travel. Sometimes I'd press the key and it still works but I can barely feel it move. Please help what can I do? Can I remove the enter key itself and try to clean it that way? I don't have applecare if it matters.

Late 2013 Macbook Pro - Where is hardware diag's stored? SSD? Logic Board?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2018 10:00 AM PST

    Hello,

Due to a water accident I believe either my logic board or my SSD drive have been ruined. My question is if I pull the SSD drive out will I still be able to run Mac Hardware Diag's? I assume it is stored on the logic board and not the SSD but wanted to make sure.

If curious here are some pictures of the logic board and fried SSD. The top of image 2 and image 3 show the SSD and you can see some blackening on the silver and what looks to be some electric damage on the SSD.

Does anyone know what this type of cable is called?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2018 12:58 AM PST

This cable comes from my old WD external HD. I wanted to use it purely as a Time Machine backup HD but it's annoying to use the dongle all the time. I wanted to see if I can purchase a cable like that but with USB-C instead of USB 3. Problem is... I dont know what that cable is called.
