[Tutorial] Foolproof guide to install tweaks/th3mes with Electra

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 05:16 PM PST

Disclaimer: This Tutorial was made to stop all the posts of people asking how to do this and that many tutorials didn't cover their content. As well as you not having to use a computer again after installing FilzaEscaped.

    Chapters:

      1. Prerequisite software
      1. How to install themes
      1. How to install tweaks

    Chapter 1: Prerequisite software

    You will need:

    FilzaEscaped

    CydiaImpactor

    ZipApp Free

    Chapter 1A: Installing and setup

    1. Download and install Cydia impactor

    2. Download the FilzaEscaped .ipa.

    3. Connect your iPhone to your computer.

    4. Open Cydia impactor.

    5. Drag and drop the FilzaEscaped .ipa from your downloads to Cydia impactor

    6. Enter the credentials required.

    7. Verify FilzaEscaped is installed on your device screen.

    8. Download and install ZipApp Free from the App Store (this is because FilzaEscaped won't extract zips and other files correctly).

    Chapter 2: Installing themes

    1. Find the name of your favorite theme.

    2. Search cydiaupdates.com for your theme (alternate sites/methods can be used such as an older device to get the .deb file).

    3. Download the .deb and open it in ZipApp Free.

    4. You should now have a ".theme" folder.

    5. Open FilzaEscaped and select "Apps Manager".

    6. Go to /ZipApp Free/Documents/ImportedFiles and find your .theme file.

    7. Copy it and paste it in /bootstrap/Library/Themes.

    8. Open Anemone and select and apply the theme.

    Chapter 3: Installing tweaks

    1. Follow all of the above steps until step 3.

    2. Inside the extracted .deb contents, there should be three files. You will open the file named "data.lzma".

    3. Open the new data folder in ZipApp and make sure you have the dylib and plist files.

    4. Open FilzaEscaped and go to Apps Manager and then ZipApp.

    5. In ZipApp's /ZipApp/Documents/Imported Files/TweakName/Library/data, open the MobileSubstrate folder and select the dylib.

    6. Move the dylib to /bootstrap/Library/SBInject.

    7. Do the same with the plist.

    8. Reboot and rejailbreak.

    Chapter 3A: "Special" tweaks

Some tweaks have more than just the "MobileSubstrate" folder. This will teach you where the other folders go.

    1. Navigate to /ZipApp/Documents/ImportedFiles/TweakName/Library/data.

    2. Follow Chapter 3 for the MobileSubstrate folder.

    3. You will see several folders depending on the tweak. For this example, we will take "Cylinder".

    4. Open the folder "PreferenceBundles". Select and copy the .bundle folder within.

    5. Move this folder to /bootstrap/Library/PreferenceBundles

    6. Go back and go to the "PreferenceLoader" folder in your extracted .deb.

    7. Select and copy the ".plist" within there.

    8. Move this plist to /bootstrap/Library/PreferenceLoader/Preferences.

    9. Go back to the extracted .deb and select and copy the "Cylinder" folder.

    10. Paste this entire folder in /Library, NOT /bootstrap/Library.

    11. Reboot and rejailbreak.

[News] No, Saurik is not dropping a jailbreak tonight – Source: Was at Spartahack

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 03:18 AM PST

Contrary to popular belief, Saurik's presentation was not focused on jailbreaking. He touched on a variety of topics like closed ecosystems, censorship, the concerning amount of data and analytics companies have on their user base.

Some relevant questions asked in the Q&A (Note that none of these are exact quotes, I wasn't exactly taking notes during his presentation):

    ETA on ETA?
None given. He's hopefully close, but needs to work on solving a few more tricky pieces before it'd be ready.

    Shirts?
The OG manufacture he was working with is no longer in business. He's been working with a new manufacture to nail down the design/fulfillment/etc., but it honestly sounds like a rather low priority for him.

    Future of Jailbreaking?
He wasn't optimistic, but he acknowledged he's been saying "this'll be the last jailbreak" for like 5 years now.

    Making substrate open-source?
He had a very thought out answer to this, and I don't really want to answer on his behalf on something as important as this. He concluded with saying if jailbreaking were truly over, then yes he'd likely open-source it.

    1 horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?
After much thought, 100 duck-sized horses

    Why was his website down?
His host went down and he wasn't fixing it since he was in the middle of a presentation for the last 6 hours.

Overall it was a great presentation. It was a pleasure to listen to Saurik speak on a variety of topics and hear his stance on some popular concerns like privacy, autonomous vehicles, net-neutrality, jailbreaking, and et cetera. He does these types of speeches fairly often at hackathons, the fact that this one coincided with much of the anticipation around the iOS 11.x jailbreak really kind of blew it out of proportion. Regardless, if he's ever speaking at a venue nearby, I'd definitely recommend attending.

    Cheers,

[Discussion] Patreon is not supposed to be a store.

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 12:29 PM PST

I wrote this on Twitter but I think it's important that everyone is aware of the following.

Patreon is NOT a tweak purchasing site. It is instead a system intended to support creators. It is not indentended be a Cydia replacement. You shouldn't be pledging with the mindset to purchase tweaks.

My perks do offer a major discount on my tweaks but that's more of a thank you for supporting me than a product. Patreon is intended to be a donation platform where you get extra cool perks in return.

So it's completely wrong to attack me and other developers using Patreon in a way that makes us look like we're trying to vacuum away everyone's dollars.

We set up Patreon so that those special people who wish to support creators can. So if you want to buy tweaks and not help out extra then just wait for Cydia.

If I didn't have a Patreon no one would have NoctisXI (for example) until Cydia was updated. It's a bonus service and an entirely optional choice to pledge a coffees worth each month.

[News] Electralyzed has been put on hold as of now :( (Sorry guys)

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 04:51 PM PST

Before you all start killing me, hear me out. Yes, Electralyzed will be out within the next week. I know I said on my Twitter that it would be out by Monday midnight, but I've had a ton of things going on around me at the moment and I haven't had a lot of time to work on it. Still, it will be out within the next week, hopefully with some neat features as well, but who knows, maybe it will only do its job and nothing more. (I hope that's not the case) I will be putting the source up on my Github for those who want to see what I've been working on, and those who want to give in input and help test out some betas. I'll be tweeting out updates on my Twitter and will be posting updates here on Reddit when I push out a new beta of Electralyzed. Sorry for the time delay guys, but please just be patient with me.

P.S. If you want to help me develop it, please contact me on Twitter

    [Upcoming] on-device deb installer

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 04:34 PM PST

First, I want to be clear - this is NOT a substrate alternative. Yes, it will install things from the Cydia repos. But anything that depends on substrate will NOT work.

Really this is just a way to automate downloading debs, unpacking and installing them on the device without needing to use SSH or a PC. It will let you browse repos and download packages directly from the app.

BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU INSTALL! As with any other installer, it has the ability to brick your device if you install something bad.

"wen eta" - I dunno. A week? A month? Depends on how much time I have to work on it.

[Discussion] The name "Cydia" is a reference to the Cydia genus of moths, notably the codling moth (with a scientific name of Cydia pomonella), which is the proverbial "worm in the apple."

[Tutorial] When you Jailbreak with Electra, it installs a SSH server on your phone, so you must immediately change your root/mobile user password.

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 07:31 AM PST

Anyone in a Public Wifi can potentially ssh into your phone (the default password is alpine) and mess with it, and steal your data without you knowing it.

SSH in your iDevice with a Terminal on Mac/Linux or Putty on Windows and type the following commands.

    For root:

    passwd

    For mobile user:

    passwd mobile

[Update] Deb installer now automatically signs app binaries with jtool upon installation! (also runs uicache when needed which I forgot to do previously)

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 01:56 PM PST

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pKIfuvXh8_F6EOJEnoTiiQG3PninEhWx/view?usp=sharing

In beta4 apps are automatically signed using jtool (and adds correct entitlements) so they'll open right after installation. It removes the need to ssh into the device and manually sign everything :). It may not work for all apps, but if you find one that doesn't work comment it and I'll fix it

This automatically installs tweaks on Electra and other jailbreaks. For electra it converts the file structure to work with Substitute & anemone. It also allows you to fully remove tweaks with one click. Just open Tweak Installer.exe, edit the ssh details, select a deb file and install / uninstall

Tested on Yalu (10.2) and Electra (11.1.2)

    edit: adds entitlements

[upcoming] Tips+: Advanced help for advanced users - Informed jailbreakers wanted!

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 12:35 PM PST

Hey, everybody! I've started work on an app that I hope will be a huge help to users in this subreddit!

Tips+ will be a reference guide for jailbroken iOS users. I hope to include an extensive list of topics from downgrading, to key terms and definitions, to jailbreaking all iOS versions. It will be packed with tutorials, advice, tricks, and general information. It will be a huge task, so I'm relying on the community's help to author sections and contribute information!

In the end, I hope for it to be a one-stop shop for everything you need to know, and hopefully it'll de-clutter this subreddit.

If you don't mind, please fill out this survey! You can use this link to give suggestions, and volunteer to help! The information gathered by this will only be shared with people contributing to Tips+.

Edit: this post is me getting ready ahead of time. Don't expect this project to be ready until at least a month after the iOS 11 jailbreak. It's a long time out, I know, I'm sorry. Again, I hope for this to be extensive.
