    Hi guys & gals,

Some of you might remember our post from last week where we introduced our 1st app - Sudoku Master Edition.

We want thank each and every single one of you for commenting, emailing, and/or sending PM's - it's because of you that we discovered some pretty annoying bugs. But, we also received a good amount of feedback & feature requests - so we hunkered down, and today we're proud to announce our first major update.

Not only did we squash the bugs you reported, we also added some features that a lot of you suggested and/or requested, plus some ideas of our own.

To keep up with the tradition, and to thank you we're giving away another 25 promo codes to get rid of ads. Please keep the feedback, feature requests, and suggestions coming - it's the only way we can improve the app.

Again, Thank You from the both of us to everyone who downloaded, played, paid to upgrade, sent us a message, or maybe even recommended us to their friends. Without you, we wouldn't be able to follow our passion. The app is still free (if you don't mind an ad playing AFTER a game - we intentionally kept the gameplay experience ad & distraction-free), and we don't plan on adding any in-app purchases other than the one to remove ads. Ever.

Have a lovely start into the week!

    • K. & N.

EDIT: The game is iOS Universal. I don't know why we haven't mentioned this before...so...yeah.

EDIT 2: All codes have been redeemed. We cannot thank you enough for your support & feedback - rest assured that we'll come up with some sort of pay-it-forward idea for this subreddit very soon. Much love!

    Recipe management app suggestions?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2017 09:55 AM PDT

My wife and I love to cook, and with our recent health focus, we've started cooking almost 100% of our meals at home. She's relied on pinterest for a long time to find recipes, but that's not a perfect solution for what we need. I'm looking for an app that can be a repository for recipes that we like that will, (a) sync between all our devices [iPhone's, iPad's, Web/Desktop a bonus] and (b) back up to the cloud.

I'm not opposed to paying to support the developer, so please let me know any paid/free apps that you like.

    I hate the widget page

    Posted: 02 Oct 2017 11:41 AM PDT

It's the page on the leftmost page of the homescreen. Why can't Apple ever get this page right? It's been there since iOS 9 and ever since it was introduced it. Every time I want to view the widgets my iPad freezes and the widgets do this weird expanding and contracting thing and they all glitch out. This has made me try to avoid the widget page as much as possible even though the widgets themselves are very useful. It doesn't matter how I access the page, whether its through the new notification shade or swiping right on the lockscreen, the widget page has always been very glitch and difficult to use.

WARNING: Updating to IOS 11.0.1 followed by downgrading to 10.3.3 can hose your iDevice and backup

    Posted: 02 Oct 2017 11:23 AM PDT

[ Crossposted to relevant iDevice and IOS subs; this happened on an iPod Touch but I'd guess it could just as easily happen on an iPhone or iPad. ]

I recently went ahead with the IOS 11.0.1 update on my iPod Touch 6. I had a backup of the iPod on my computer that I'd made on 9/23 (when it was running IOS 10.3.3), so even though I wasn't expecting any problems I was confident I could deal with them if they came up.

The update went off without a hitch, but I was surprised to find just how many 32-bit apps I'd be losing forever -- including some I'm not willing to let go of just yet. So I decided to try downgrading back to 10.3.3, using this procedure outlined by OS X Daily. The downgrade also appeared to go off without a hitch. However, as it was progressing I realized I wasn't entirely comfortable with what might result from just "updating" to a former version of IOS, so I decided that after it was done it would be better to do a full recovery and restore from my old 10.3.3 backup from 9/23.

This is when I discovered that the downgrade procedure had apparently caused my 9/23 backup to be overwritten with a new backup from after the downgrade (!!?!?) -- so now I had no 10.3.3 backup from before the 11.0.1 upgrade. Still, I was hopeful I could just reload 10.3.3, restore from this new 10.3.3 backup, and everything would be ok.

It wasn't. After reloading 10.3.3 and restoring from the new backup the iPod was seriously unstable. Some of the problems I saw:

    1. After running various apps (current/updated apps, not 32-bit) the iPod would freeze -- neither the Home nor the Sleep/Wake buttons would work and often the app itself wouldn't work either. The iPod would eventually crash and restart. This was a show-stopper, of course.
    2. When I connected the iPod to my Macbook Pro it would usually show up in iTunes with all the space listed as "Other" and the Sync button greyed out (but other times it would show up normally and allow me to Sync)
    3. Many of the apps I'd had were missing and I had to restore them manually through the App Store
    4. The 17 notes I had in the Notes app had all disappeared

I tried redoing the recovery/restore procedure several times using the new backup, and each time the iPod misbehaved in these same ways. So it seemed clear that whatever was causing the problems had been stored in that new backup (hey, wonderful!). I tried several other recovery/restore variations at this point in the vain hope that I wasn't just stuck with a broken device and a corrupt backup, but nothing worked. So at this point I had a broken device and no good backup of my 10.3.3 iPod.

Fortunately, a) I just got this iPod in May to replace an iPod 4 running IOS 6, b) I hadn't made a lot of changes to it since then, and c) the iPod 4 backup from May hadn't been molested by the upgrade/downgrade procedure. So I reinstalled IOS 10.3.3, restored from the May IOS 6 backup, reinstalled the few apps I'd bought since then...and it now looks like things are stable. Other than a lot of lost progress in a few games I'd bought I'm more or less whole again.

So a few lessons I've learned that I'll share with anyone considering an update to 11.0.1 who thinks there's any chance they might want to downgrade to 10.3.3 afterwards (and while this all happened on an iPod Touch I'd expect it could happen on other iDevices as well):

    • AN ITUNES BACKUP OF YOUR IDEVICE IS NOT ENOUGH, because the update/downgrade procedure may irrevocably destroy your on-disk backup. So in addition to sync'ing the device in iTunes you should make a backup of the resulting backup (e.g. with Time Machine) before performing the 11.0.1 update.
    • Make sure you download a copy of the IOS 10.3.3 IPSW file for your device prior to updating to 11.0.1, just to be 100% sure it'll be available if you need it.
    • Generally speaking, treat the 11.0.1 update as a major event or you may find yourself in a world of pain.

Hopefully this saves someone from dealing with the data loss and multi-day hassle I just went through.

TL;DR: Updating to IOS 11.0.1 and then downgrading to 10.3.3 both hosed my iPod Touch and destroyed my last good backup of that iPod Touch (making it impossible to recover to that backup). I was only able to recover thanks to a 5-month old backup of my former iPod. Don't assume that a sync of your iDevice is enough to take you back to 10.3.3 if things go south -- back up your backup.

iPad Mini 2 Screen and Lightning Port Problems

    Posted: 02 Oct 2017 08:07 AM PDT

I got this exact same problem with my iPad just now. The difference is that it stays even if I restart it or I lock the screen.

Another problem I noticed is that when I tried to charge it I can't insert the lightning cable in the port.

I don't think I have access to apple repairs since this was from a gray market purchase. Is something broken inside?

It also warms up a bit faster now.

I haven't dropped this at all except on my bed.

iPad Pro 9.7 and iOS 11 performance: not smooth for you as well?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2017 11:44 PM PDT

I am on 11.0.1 and used to be on 11.0.0. While with iOS 10 all was fine, my iOS 11 experience has been clunky. The animations are skipping frames. This is especially noticeable when swiping up to control center, but it's not limited to it.

Is this happening to other people?

Question about quick charging the iPad Pro 2015

    Posted: 01 Oct 2017 11:21 PM PDT

I have the original iPad Pro 12.9' and I didn't know it could quick charge until all the buzz recently about USB PD for the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X. I have a few questions about which things need to be Apple certified/proprietary to take advantage of the full quick charging speeds.

    1. What's the maximum wattage power brick supported by the iPad Pro 2015? 29W? 61W? 87W?
    2. Do I need the Apple branded power brick, or can I use a third party (Anker/Belkin) one?
    3. Do I need an Apple branded USB-C to Lightning cable, or can I use the one I already have?
    4. Can I use an Apple power brick with a third party cable?
    5. Can I use a third party brick with an Apple USB-C to Lightning cable?
    6. Can I use a third party cable and power brick?

Thanks. When I say brick I mean adapter.

Notifications draining iPad Pro 10.5" battery?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2017 05:48 AM PDT

I usually leave my iPad face down on my bed during the night and I notice when I wake up that the lock screen is on filled with notifications which I believe might be the cause of the battery drain. I'm also running the new 11.1 Dev Beta but it was happening before. Anyway I can shut this off, because I really don't want to wake up with my lock screen on, full of notifications, and battery really drained.

    How to manage videos?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2017 10:27 PM PDT

This may seem like such a simple matter. I haven't been a long time ios user or iTunes user. I am using a windows pc and have been solely using android devices. The way Android devices work is by allowing the pc to recognize it as a drive, so you can just drag and drop files onto it like a USB drive.

I added a whole season of a tv show onto my ipad to the infuse video player via iTunes through file sharing. Only to have it tell me, I would need to purchase the Pro version to play the videos, so I did. But the videos were not recognized on the pro version even though it was the same developer, but two separate apps. I was baffled at how difficult it is just to load a video onto your iPad and just open it with whatever app you chose. In Android, you can navigate to your file as in windows file explorer and just tell which app to play it with. In ios, you have to load it into the specific app or it won't recognize it in other apps? What am I missing here? I was always told ios was so simple to use but it seems like it's making things infinitely more difficult. Please help.

    iPad Pro 10.5 vs 12.9

    Posted: 02 Oct 2017 07:27 AM PDT

    Hello all,

I bought the 10.5 iPad on Friday, but now I am wondering if I should have bought the 12.9 version. I like the portability of the smaller version, but I like the split screen functionality and think I am missing something by not buying the 12.9 version. I would love to have your feedback.

Some Smart Keyboard + Files app questions.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2017 12:31 AM PDT

Hey everyone I just got my first ever iPad today (10.5 inch) and so far I'm very happy! However I've noticed that upon holding the command key on any app you get a pop up of available shortcuts within that particular app. I tried this on the files app and I got some options like delete which I cant seem to be able to use (I can't even select a file). Any help with this? Any other tips I should know off?

Is upgrading from iPad Air 1 to iPad Pro 2017 worth the price?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2017 04:52 PM PDT

It's something I've been debating for a while I really want a new iPad but I'm hesitant to upgrade due to the price of the Pro, do they justify their price tag enough to upgrade from what I currently have?

I have an Android Phone and an iPad, is there any way to send texts (SMS/MMS) using my iPad through my Android?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2017 06:02 PM PDT

I have an Android phone and text using the app Textra. i just purchased an iPad Air 2 and would love to be able to text (SMS/MMS) people from my ipad to my android.

I've searched and haven't seen any new threads in the past few years and was hoping for some app recommendations. I saw an old recommendation for Verizon Messages that I've been using, but I'm hoping for something quicker and more reliable (any maybe more/better features).
