This has to be one of the dumbest decisions Apple has made.

There are far worse decisions. Far worse goofs. But this one is probably one of the stupidest, because it has ONLY ONE reason to do it (save battery), and the 'solution' has the EXACT OPPOSITE effect.

Somebody at Apple (probably several somebodies) made the conscious decision to save battery life by disabling the flashlight when the battery is under 15%.

So, at the end of almost every day, instead of using my flashlight, which I can no longer do, Apple's solution is for me to use my screen for light.

Which drains the battery WAY faster, and is WAY less effective.

    Come on Apple. FFS.

TL;DR: The decision to save battery by cutting a super-useful feature at the end of the day (when you most need it) results in users draining their battery much faster.

Edit: It seems so far that Pluses are unaffected by this 'feature'.

Why isn’t the “hidden” folder in the photos app protected by Touch ID?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2017 10:54 PM PDT

I'm glad they're hidden from the main photos tab, but it would make sense if the hidden folder was protected from anyone else viewing it.

The Future of the iPad Mini

    Posted: 17 Oct 2017 06:47 PM PDT

Just curious who thinks apple may produce these in the future. I think the benefit of having the iPad mini was having a tablet that wasn't extremely big in my eyes. The size of the iPad mini was perfect and if they intend to remove the bezels in the future the form factor will be perfect.

Will apple be releasing another in the future?

Personally Im a pilot and the form factor is the perfect fit for the cockpit. I need the iPad mini in a way.

Anyone else noticed iOS 11 is terrible at remembering which custom keyboard you're using?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2017 11:01 AM PDT

I use GBoard and in iOS 10 it was near flawless. In 11 I'm now finding myself switching to it far more often because iOS forgets it was previously loaded.

I’m amazed how W1 headphones connect to the device you’re currently using

    Posted: 17 Oct 2017 05:00 PM PDT

I'm not sure if this is an actual feature with the W1 headphones or if it's just been a coincidence, but whenever I'm playing music or videos aloud, I'll grab one of my W1 headphones and they'll pair to the currently playing one automatically.

I really feel like this isn't just a coincidence and also not because I connected it to that device last. When I go to the gym for strength training, my PowerBeats pair to my phone automatically, but when I'm at home and about to go for a run, it'll play from my Apple Watch without having to manually select it from the AirPlay menu. It's so convenient and seamless, I haven't had to manually choose the device I want to wirelessly connect to. I'm amazed and just wanted to share my experience with these headphones.

Australian Apple Pay users which bank are you with?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2017 09:41 PM PDT

I'm with CBA and they stubbornly refuse to adopt Apple Pay. They have a $0 annual fee credit card which is great. Are there ANY Australian banks which offer the same and support Apple Pay? Which bank do you use and why?

Found a lost apple employer id card

Id rather not disclose information on the card, but does anyone have any idea where to report this? The card doesn't come with anything except the full name and a number underneath.

Top iPad apps adding Drag and Drop support within the first month of iOS 11

    Posted: 17 Oct 2017 01:03 PM PDT

I made the horrible mistake of updating my iPad Air(1st gen) to ios11 and it’s working horribly and the battery life is ridiculous. Is there any way of downgrading back to the latest ios10 and if yes how is it done, i’ve never done such thing before?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2017 10:30 PM PDT

App updates constantly fail to finish updating, stuck upon installation; apps become unusable until soft-rebooted (look at those apps with darkened circles). This happens ~50% of the time now. This problem started from around the iOS9 era, my previous iphone had the same issue too. Super annoying

Has anything neat been done with touch bar support recently?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2017 02:43 PM PDT

I bought the 13" 2017 with the touch bar because if I'm spending that much money already, I'd like to get everything that the hardware has to offer in terms of features. I like it a lot so far, but I'm also aware that it wasn't supported a whole lot when it first came out, and so I was wondering if that had changed in the past year.

EDIT: I went out for a bit and brought the Mac along with me, and BOY does the touch bar do a good job of being a mouse/trackpad substitute in this case.

I think most of the issue lies with the fact that most people will be using a mouse and therefore the touch bar is going to feel redundant when that's around. But when it's not? Very clutch.

Remove mouse acceleration on High Sierra?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2017 12:30 PM PDT

I recently started using a mouse with my Macbook air as for certain tasks the trackpad wasn't as fast. However, I absolutely cannot stand the mouse acceleration as it significantly reduces the precision and speed I'm able to move and click things.

I've searched and tried over 5 different apps, terminal lines, mouse software, etc and nothing is able to remove it. Has anyone here had any luck?
