What are warranty options for broken (battery mysteriously died) iPhone that’s less than a year old? Posted: 18 Oct 2017 06:32 PM PDT My sister's phone (iphone 7) broke today, she got it back in May of his year. The issue is that her phone died because of low battery, and she went to charge it, but then the phone never turned on. The charging icon was present when she was charging it (like when you press power button and it shows the battery with little life in it). I looked it up and it says I'm only eligible for OOW because the phone is not a year old yet. The damage was not her fault but rather the battery's. She has a small scuff in corner of the phone if that counts as damage that broke her phone. What do I do? I know it's OOW, but what exactly is that? [link] [comments] |
Looks like TimeMachine only saved thumbnails? Posted: 18 Oct 2017 05:44 PM PDT I backed up my entire Early 2011 MBP using TimeMachine onto an external HD and then wiped the hard drive to update the OS to 10.12.5 (Sierra). When I went to get my pictures off the external, the thumbnails show up in the Photos library, but when I double-click on them to see the full size version, they don't load. Some thumbnails didn't save also, it seems, as there's a placeholder with a filename, but no image. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, my wedding pictures are involved. [link] [comments] |

My iPhone not working on my home wifi Posted: 18 Oct 2017 09:01 PM PDT I have an iPhone 5s that no longer works with my home wireless network. I have just generic Comcast wireless network, it has worked fine with my iPhone up until recently. The iPhone works fine when I disconnect wifi, and the wireless network is still working with other devices, so I assume it's the iPhone. What can I do to fix this? [link] [comments] |
iPhone 8: "Rest finger to open" not working Posted: 18 Oct 2017 01:25 PM PDT I got my iPhone 8 the other day. I prefer "rest finger to open" with Touch ID because pressing the home button just feels like an extra step. It worked fine the first few days. But now today, it doesn't. If I wake up my phone (either by picking it up or pressing the side button), I rest my finger, and nothing happens. The bottom says "Press home to unlock" (which doesn't make sense, because I'm resting my finger). The lock icon at the top never unlocks. But if I do press down the home button, it unlocks just fine. Also, if I rest my finger, pick it up, and rest again (never "clicking" the home button), then it does unlock, but with a slight delay. Things I've tried:
Still experiencing the issue. [link] [comments] |
Screenshots taking a very long time to appear on desktop Posted: 18 Oct 2017 02:24 PM PDT I upgraded to High Sierra from Sierra when it came out, and immediately I noticed that screenshots would take a good 10-15 seconds before appearing on the desktop. How can I fix this? I just ran a First Aid and this came up: I have since fixed this with this guide but I don't think it's related. [link] [comments] |

I have followed apples instructions to a t. I have reset the Apple TV and the bulb. I have 2 factor authentication on and iCloud Keychain but I cannot get the Apple TV to connect. Any suggestions? Using external SSD for boot drive on Mac mini Posted: 18 Oct 2017 08:00 PM PDT My late 2014 Mac mini has a molasses slow 5400rpm HDD. I would like to use a Thunderbolt SATA dock such as this: https://www.akitio.com/adapters/thunder-sata-go or a USB 3.0 SSD enclosure off Amazon. I know that you can boot a Mac mini off a external drive, however I will need to still keep using the internal 1TB drive to store large files since I won't be buying a 1TB SSD (still too expensive). I should be able to convert the external volume to APFS and leave my internal drive as HFS+. I will need to map my home directory to the HDD though and I am wondering if this will cause any issues since the HDD is formatted with a HFS+ partition. I have also considered creating my own Fusion Drive (which I have seen on blog posts is possible), however I don't know if it will work in High Sierra or if it will break when APFS comes to Fusion Drives in the promised future update. I'd appreciate it if anyone has previous experience with this sort of external SSD + internal HDD setup and could chime in. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Oct 2017 04:12 PM PDT Additional information: I do google complicated search terms in the google search bar on occasion but I have done that since I bought my phone. I don't use TOR or the like, only Safari. I also find that when I receive this error, there is no option for captcha and the IP address listed is always different (I have screenshots) :/ This is whats making me worry. Is there anyway to confirm whether my phone has malware, if so, how can I go about removing it? [link] [comments] |
Identify generation of CPU before it arrives Posted: 18 Oct 2017 03:55 PM PDT Hey guys, I purchased a 2017 13" MBP without touch bar and wondered if you could tell me if it's kaby lake or not based on the fact it was 2017. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Help with the App Store and Accounts Posted: 18 Oct 2017 03:35 PM PDT My iPhone is telling me that I have several updates available for apps, but whenever I try to update, it asks for my parents' iTunes password, which I have never used on this iPhone, and haven't used at all in several years. I've tried logging out of iTunes altogether (with my account) and logging back in, but whenever I try to update the apps, it keeps asking for my parents' iTunes password. It's even auto-filling their email. Does anyone have any idea what I should do? [link] [comments] |

Getting false Apple support window Posted: 18 Oct 2017 02:34 PM PDT Hey ! So i downloaded a program torrent, lthink it was sketchup or fusion 360. Backup help with iPhone and Watch Posted: 18 Oct 2017 12:40 PM PDT So my phone has been funky the past few days and had a kernel panic last night. I checked the log to be sure it was a kernel panic and it was. So just for safety's sake I wanna restore from a backup. I backup to iTunes about once a week, but I wanna know what is all going to restore. I'd love for it to just pick right up where it left off but I doubt it'll be that easy. The backup is encrypted so health data should be backed up. When I backup I've read that the watch will need to be re-paired and it'll backup from the iPhone. Will that include my apps and all their data because I have like 20-30 apps. Will it also keep my text messages as well? I have the history on my Mac if I lose some that's okay but I'm hoping it will stay on my watch as well. I do reference from my watch a lot. I also would think Bluetooth devices would need to be re-paired also, but am unsure. Really I just wanna know how much I'm gonna have to setup again on both watch and phone. The most important thing is that They recently removed the App Store from iTunes. Will my backup also have my applications? I really don't wanna download 50+ apps again. That would bum me out and I'd probably just factory reset at that point. But even then it would suck because I loaded all my apps on my phone via iTunes which was so much easier because you could setup the home screen as they install too. I'm typing this out at work but it's definitely been on my mind all day about how much time it's gonna take to get setup back to as it was. EDIT** Just to clarify I'm asking as someone who has never done a restore. I've always backed up but never restored on iOS as a 5 year user. [link] [comments] |
Macbook 2017 - How easily can water enter the trackpad? Posted: 18 Oct 2017 08:46 AM PDT Hey there, So I got the new macbook pro 2017 and I wanted to ask, if liquid could get into the trackpad. I just wiped my trackpad with a wet tissue and I had some small waterdrops (looked like tiny raindrops) on the corner of my macbook. I also uplouded a image, look at the red circled area. Thats exactly where I had these small tiny waterdrops https://imgur.com/a/fyEHx How easily can these small waterdrops get into the inside of the macbook? and what is under the trackpad? So can anything bad happen? [link] [comments] |
Is it impossible to download all photos from iCloud today? If so, why? Posted: 18 Oct 2017 04:15 PM PDT This is absolutely ridiculous, why is it that I can only download photos one at a time from iCloud? I have five thousand photos! Is this some sort of Apple conspiracy where they force you to store your photos with them so that you're dependent on their services? Please, if anybody has a solution, help me! [link] [comments] |
Issues with receiving texts since the latest iOS update Posted: 18 Oct 2017 12:23 PM PDT Ever since I updated there have been multiple occasions where I don't receive texts (and obviously no notifications for the texts either). I only realized it happened because eventually I find it strange that the person I'm texting hasn't responded after a really long time. The only way I get these texts to come through is if I text the person again. Has anyone else had this issue and is there a way to fix it? Or do I just have to wait it out until the new update [link] [comments] |
Issues with Word 2016 frequently crashing Posted: 18 Oct 2017 08:59 AM PDT Not aware of an Office help subreddit to post this to instead, besides the actual Office subreddit is very Windows-centric as is most of the online support. Word for Mac 15.39, purchased as standalone not subscription so it's 2016 not 365. Mac OS 10.13 with latest updates although I'm confused why it's not showing a .x.x version number, but that's besides the point. Touchbar MacBook Pro 13" 2017. Word has been crashing a lot lately. What happens is I'm typing a document and suddenly it freezes and I have to force-quit the application and when I do nothing comes back from autosave. I end up losing data and whole documents, sometimes it creates an embarrassing situation with clients where I essentially have to repeat an entire interview to replenish lost data. It's bad enough that I'm considering switching to PAges which though much less robust and sophisticated than Word seems to do a much better job of not crashing and actually recovering data when it does. But I like the feature set in Word, and all my business templates are in .dotx, and I use .doc to collaborate by email. Anyone else experiencing crashes like this? Is there any potential solution I could try? [link] [comments] |
iMac screen going crazy! Any help? Posted: 18 Oct 2017 07:00 AM PDT Specs; iMac: (21.5 inch, mid 2011) Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory: 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB (Tell me if there is anything I should add) Last night, this iMac was running macOS Sierra. Occasionally after waking from sleep or restart, the the screen would be covered with a scattering or red and black/discolor squares. Thinking that a software update might help, I updated it to macOS High Sierra overnight. Now my little brother wakes up the computer this morning and finds this. Anyone have any help for me on this? People on other subreddits have been suggesting that it's the graphics card. If so, anyone know what a fix might cost? [link] [comments] |
What will an iTunes backup restore? Posted: 18 Oct 2017 10:37 AM PDT I might need to do a hard reset on for my iPhone 6, but the thing is that I would rather not lose all of my app data and everything on my phone. After replacing my screen, my iPhone has been completely unresponsive and won't turn on, although it is recognized by iTunes (I have a lock on my phone so it's inaccessible through iTunes). I know the battery isn't dead because I've left it charging for a while so that isn't the issue. Luckily, right before I began replacing my screen I did a complete backup of my phone, so I do have that. If I hard reset my phone (pressing the Home and Lock buttons together for a while), will I be able to recover everything from my backup and have my phone like it was before? Is there some other option that could help me that I don't know about? I'm currently running OS X 11.6 and my iTunes is version 12.7. [link] [comments] |
Is there anyway to fresh install iOS without losing app (game) data? Posted: 18 Oct 2017 02:05 PM PDT iOS 11 is making my iPhone 6 run like garbage, so I kinda want to just do a fresh re-install of whatever iOS. I have a few games that will save my data upon deletion (RCT Classic), but others that say game data will be lost if I delete the app (Two Dots) Am I basically shit outta luck? [link] [comments] |
Can I replace my logic board for a lesser one? Posted: 18 Oct 2017 02:02 PM PDT I have mid 2013 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.6ghz and 16gb ram A1502 logic board that has failed and instead of paying geek squad $1200 for a repair I just bought a new MacBook pro instead. So my problem is I want to resell my old broken pro that has a brand new screen. I want to put a 2.4ghz 8gb logic board in there, is that possible? [link] [comments] |
